Take away the synth and melancholy voice, and it’s rockabilly. The guitar, bass and drums are 💯 rockabilly. Which was absolutely huge in England and influenced so many British musicians.

It's New Wave, the music of my adolescence. A lot of great songs, great groups. There are two other songs from them that got some airplay and you might enjoy, and they are "Space Age Love Song" and "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You). Duran Duran was one of my all-time favorites and they were MTV staples. People knocked them for being pretty and slick and packaged, but they were all legitimate musicians, the bassist is recognized as one of the best out there, and they are still making music and were packing concert venues before COVID. Tons of good songs to investigate!

Although the chords are simple. I like the guitarist he just keeps it simple and easy.

This is 80s New Wave/Classic Alternative at its finest. What set AFOS apart from other similar bands at the time was Paul Reynolds and his guitar. He had a very unique sound/tone (used a British penny as a pick and used a lot of echo/delay in his riffs). And he was just a kid, joining the band when he was 17, was 19 when their first album was released in spring 1982, had a Grammy to his name at 20 (the band won Best Rock Instrumental for "D.N.A." in 1983). Sadly the rock & roll lifestyle was too fast for him and he got to a point where he couldn't keep up with it anymore, and left the band in 1984 due to extreme exhaustion.

I love new wave and A Flock of Seagulls were one of my favorites from back in the day. Other songs worth hearing from them are: Space Age Love Song and Telecommunication.

Soft Cell, Tainted Love - isn’t that the one that brilliantly morphs into Where Did Our Love Go, by the Supremes?
I love the idea of you reacting to New Wave. Howard Jones, No One Is to Blame, and Baltimore, Tarzan Boy!
