I got the Holset HX35 turbo installed and I love the way it sounds, so I took some video of the spool and blow off valve. I still need to free up the exhaust restriction and do some tuning. I taped a camera and microphone to my lower radiator hose to get some footage of it.

Was anybody else expecting the camera to get sucked into the turbo?
I loved the HX35 I had on my 1G TSI AWD. That car was more fun that my Hellcat is.
Always love stumbling across a video that includes a turbo I've serviced at some point. :D
Still going strong! I'll be putting a small 16g you rebuilt on my 2g sometime in 2021.

Sounds awesome! My Red makes these sounds which can be heard faintly from the cab, however I know the Holsets are known for being loud. Spool seems to be similar to my HTZ Red as well.

Did you ever put your hx on the shiro? I just did that this year couldnt ve happier with the results
@@dadigitechmanjunior Sadly no, and i no longer have that car, but i know the guy that has it but it is still in the condition that it was in when i had it. it needed alot of TLC. It essentially needed a tune, to run well it had never had a tune properly, and it was just becomming a huge headache to deal with so now it is his problem but in some ways i miss that car.
From 1:30-1:50 at turbo spooling side,gave a look like a 'Seconds from Disaster' feel.

I miss my dsm it had a 2.4 big cam motor, with the hx35, auto trans, that turbo screamed super loud at any load.

Awesome! It sounds like your BOV isn't big enough for the flow of this turbo. That things surging like crazy when you back off. Might need to go up to a 40mm BOV.
that kind of surge is ok plus it has an anti surge compressor housing so most of what you hear is not affecting the turbo at all.

Building boost kinda late for a twinscroll it might be due to the exhaust restriction and that BOV is small for that turbo on the other hand I'm using a Tial Q (50mm) and I'm surging at higher gears too i kind like it tho! Love the vids man keep'em coming! cheers
Yeah, exactly my thoughts! Still have a lot of work to do :D
I also have the 50mm tial Q and i use the lightest spring possible. I believe it is the black one and on their website I think they say it is for supercharged applications, but it solved my HY35 fluttering by switching. I am running speed density though so you wouldn't want to do that if you are using a MAF since it hangs open at idle.
EDIT: Just watched your speed density vid... lol.. consider switching to a lighter BOV spring to help extend your turbo's life!

also you should wrap that wastegate pipe to reduce heat soaking the compressor cover

Hx35 is on my 01 24 valve Cummins. Don’t know the compressor when size but I get about 40psi max. Then again it gets way more fuel and air coming in.

Funny to think that these turbo's are being used on big diesels, small 4cyl Honda's and DSMs and 2.5L BMWs.

Is that an internal wastegate model modified to fit an external one? I can't seem to find an HX35 without internal wastegates for sale.

I think alot will change once he deletes the cat they are very restrictive but definitely do something with the waste gate

why did you decent to go twin scroll and not stay t3 and get a bep housing ? I think you,d be seeing boost a bit earlier. I'm going t3 bro housing with a hx40 billet wheel tuned on a evo 8 ecu need my E85 components and some high cc injectors lol
This will actually spool faster than the BEP housing. I wasn't trying to show the spool speed, just getting the best noises so I was starting with low throttle and then ramping it up with the RPMs. 0:48 is a good example of how fast it spools, and that was only light throttle. I still have a lot of work to do but I'll post a specific spool video in the future. Oh, and my 1g BOV is garage/dodge-modded so it handles the boost easily :D

Do you run an oil restrictor on that turbo? If not how much oil pressure are you running through it?
you don't need an oil restrictor on a Holset mate, Just get as big of a drain line as possible , AVOID AN-10 at all costs , you need something with at least 14-16 mm internal diameter , and feed it as much as oil as you can

Trying to do it all myself but my friend is giving me a lot of help though as I'm learning.

Dang it hit close to 30lbs, i only run 22lbs on my stock 6-bolt and im waiting on it to explode might be because its my daily and it has 180,000 miles on it.

That turbo is way too bog for your small engine. Hx25 will perform better
