    Yeow Janek! We first met during the "era" of MySpace! 😂
    I'd just picked up the bass, and we used to communicate then. Good to see ya!

    Can you reference a tab sheet for this practice exercise??? Its a really beautiful sound. Also, what pedal are you using?

    I little bit sad for miss your show in Brazil, but man, this exercise sounds so awesome! Especially when you use the tritone substitution.

    I do not know almost nothing of English. Too bad you do not have the translator option in this video. But the music is universal, I can understand the concept. Thanks Janek.. Greetings from Brazil

    Got ahead of myself, shoulda held my horses bcs at 05:44 you just utterly justifiy the very core of a course of study I'm building for bassists who might be feeling flat and stuck [and on the verge of giving up...] about graduating to the 'mighty six'.
    Have seen so many comments on No Treble, Talkbass, etc to that sad effect.
    Not that I'm a whizkid bass player but I do practice logic in the extreme and kind of an engineering approach to music...as everything. And your vlog, this one, is abso-flippin-loutely right on about how just the slightest shift in emphasis can bolster one's thirst for more, more, more. Been doing this for months with nothing short of outstanding breakthrough after breakthrough, and so, gr8 to hear you echo the same thing.
    Many gracias.

    Hey Janek. Learned a lot, thanks! Just curious, do you always practice with a reverb pedal on or was it that you were working with arpeggios which work well with reverb?

      If i'm not mistaken, he uses a TC Electronic Nova Repeater Delay pedal for that sound. Similar sounds can be achieved with most delays. Short delay time, repeats set high, mix set to medium. I use an Earthquaker Devices Dispatch Master when i play my 5 string tuned the way he does. I rarely use it outside of the house, but it makes warm-ups and practice a lot more inspiring. I realize this question wasn't for me, but i figured i'd pitch in with whatever insight i have on the subject. Cheers!

      For my own personal taste, I like practicing with my own sound. Especially when I'm playing melodic ideas that are most likely going to manifest themselves in my music when I'm being more of a lead instrument. I don't always practice with the delay pedal on, and there is a lot to be said for doing both. It's all about personal preference at the end of the day, and you should do what feels best to you.

    But why you sub the tonic? the tritone will normally sub the Dominant chords, I think

    • @janekgwizdala
      @janekgwizdala  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The sub is for the V chord, not the tonic. The key center is F minor, the V chord is C, and the tritone sub for the V chord is Gb.

    new courses from the books? something else than the videos that came with the books? do we NEED the new courses or should the old videos be just OK? :)

    • @janekgwizdala
      @janekgwizdala  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The original videos that come with the eBook package are examples of each of the exercises at two tempos. This new set of courses I just launched are a personal guide through some of favorite elements of the books, and how I use them, and how I've developed them over the past 20 years.

    Hey Janek! killer content as always! I have a question. would you recomend using the harmonic/melodic concepts from your books and apply it to guitar?

    • @janekgwizdala
      @janekgwizdala  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely! I even released guitar specific versions of the new Ultimate Chop Builder series. You can check it out in the links in the description of this video.

      But in a way it’s better you don’t pay attention to that. Cause then you can access and improve your ear training.

    • @Max-Kozol-Bass

      In fact what I suggest is to first listen to the first note he says he plays, and then use intervals to figure out the rest ^-^

    I've been playing bass since 1971. Ive played thousands of songs and been in many bands.
    In searching for growth musically Ive scoured the net for that particular communication style
    that I can bear to listen to and learn something from. The one thing I can't stand is way too much
    talking, especially laboring the same point over and over. I cant stand it.
    Wheres the bass lesson for intermediates?
    Im in that place where Im self taught really for my whole career and I can learn most any song
    before its over...but Ive never had to come up with solos. Now my thought life and perception
    of learning to solo and be melodic is burdened by this monumentally false idea that I have
    nothing to say, I suck and I'll never really get it. .
    I need to get out of my own way.
    *What I'm getting at is you go fast enough to keep my interest and involve me emotionally.
    What I've seen so far is encouraging and inspiring unlike anybody I've seen on the net. I need
    to learn the melody to all the songs I learn on bass like Jaco said. I need to break out of safe
    1-4-5 patterns and learn to solo over changing chord centers . I need to learn how to solo out all
    this beautiful music I have inside me before I die!
    It's funny...I can play every mode in every key...I can play 3rds and groups of threes, 4ths and groups
    of 4 and so on up to 12ths .....but I don't play Happy Birthday with confidence...if you know what I mean.
    I feel there are a lot of us cats out here that are great bass players but are "scared" to solo, (more than any
    instrument)....I'm thinking that you might be a source of inspiration I haven't felt in years to use to get past this.
    So....why don't I just stop and learn a song a day you ask? There is the rub...the mental block....I don't
    know what it is but I intend to get some traction on this issue...with your help? Maybe you can
    teach bass soloing.....? I don't read but I will look at your books too.
    Thanks
    Steve
