My Mom planted roses and when she was propogating them, she had 3 leaves above the soil and two leaves below. She then covered them with a glass mason jar in the fall, and in the spring they had roots. She graded roses for Jackson and Perkins. I miss her. She lived to 101 1/2 years. I'm 81. I enjoy watching your videos from Ohio, USA
It’s amazing when you clean up dirt or anything of the matter how wonderful it looks after wards. You both keep everything in its place after cleaning up each building it really looks awesome. I love all the paint colors you have chosen I love all the different types of green you have used. I look forward to your videos each week. I would enjoy making so much of what your doing to make this a beautiful home, but I would be so scared of all the bugs😊. It’s also so nice that both your parents enjoy helping out and friends as well. Have a wonderful week and hopefully we will see you again soon. Thanks for sharing.🇺🇸
The look on your face when the cat ran back up the stairs was priceless. Cats play by their own rules but they are lovely creatures. They can wander away because that is in their nature so keep her close outside.
The sweet little kitten is such a treat. I love her sleeping in Bertus jacket. The fog over the valleys in that part of Italy is really something. Reminds me of the fog that rolls in over San Francisco. I’m amazed at the amount of wood that you are finding in the attics of all these buildings. The previous owners seemed to have a similar ‘waste not, want not’ philosophy. Looking forward to seeing the new green color paint on the pine. It is a very pretty color.
Sunday morning "church" in Italy at the cascina. This is always a meditative and learning experience--the paint choice, the tile repair, the finishing of the windows, time with the cat, growing roses...and a visit to beautiful Turin.
Two hundred-year-old pieces of timber stashed away and forgotten-what a discovery! I hope you find something truly memorable to create from all of it. As I’m sure, for a timber artisan, it would be well treasured. The same goes for that plough and the 'hockey stick' yoke, which must surely be part of the farm's provenance and are undoubtedly is so museum-worthy. I keep thinking about all the farm equipment that was removed so you could start the house’s new life and how vital and purpose-specific it all was for making the farm operate successfully. Only the house itself, along with its many parts stacked in the great sheds and buildings for repurposing into its restoration now remains, revealing itself as the material and spiritual anchor-like a Giorgio de Chirico structure-for the good faith of that business and for the lives and well-being of the generations of families that lived, laughed, loved and once farmed there. Two hundred years ago, the rural landscapes near Turin were adorned with a riot of colors, as fields of wildflowers painted the hillsides and gardens blossomed with life, I’m told. In those days, flowers were not merely decorative; they were woven into the fabric of daily life, symbolizing both beauty and connection to the earth. The sweet scent of blooming violets and the vibrant hues of poppies and sunflowers would have filled the air, echoing the rhythms of nature and the heartfelt labor of the farmers tending to their land. The floral displays celebrated the changing seasons and marked the milestones of life, from joyous festivals to solemn gatherings. In every petal and leaf, in every tree and field, there lies a rich tapestry of stories and emotions, connecting generations to the land they cherished and to one another. How dearly I’m sure that your old farm would have been loved and cherished! Its many residents from different generations who grew old there along with it, and who, like the house, would have hung on to the very end to remain in its familiar spaces, are now, I’m sure, the smiles imprinted in the clear blue skies and drifting clouds that come to keep you company so regally, along with the angelic light of those majestic sunsets. If you look up as you sit there in the hot evening can you see a glimpse of heaven, for I am sure you must. Best
😂 Pelliccia and Isis watching the frog movie together!! Too funny. She will be up and down, in and out all sort of things soon (the cat...). She looks adventurous and very clever. And she has got the most beautiful eyes. 😍
The potting shed is adorable! Good luck with the cuttings! Also, I really enjoyed seeing Turin and all the flowers they had available at their market! Thank you for taking the time to share your journey with us! Your videos are so calming and relaxing to watch!💕
Your dear little kitten is really settling in and obviously loves people. You're doing really well with all the things you are tackling, the windows look amazing, well done both of you, it must be lovely to have watertight solid windows again. I am interested to see how the propogating of roses goes, I too have seen them propogated into potatoes, can't wait to see if they take as I'd like to give it a try too. It's lovely to have your parents there helping and the visit to Turin looks like it was a lovely day.
That was a very nice video. I enjoyed seeing a bit of everything: sweet kitty, family, flowers, the alps, Turin and your steadfast work. All so pleasant and interesting. Thank you 😺
E’ proprio adorabile Pelliccia.
Always a joy watching the progress. If by chance you were not a video editor prior to this project, you could snag a job as one now for sure. I worked in the film industry 20 years making natural history & wildlife films and your transitions & cuts are always purposeful & lovely. Bravo!
Goedemorgen, another use of the potato could be to remove the excess of windows joint, the starch in them helps to slide and to make a nice joint :) (if you carve the potato a bit before). Thank you for all
Last week I was in Puglia, Italy for my son's wedding. It was fabulous! I know the north of Italy is different, but I can see why you love it there. I played with a kitten there, too, like Bertus.
Great video again this week! Not sure who’s enjoying the cat experience the most! Certainly the cat is being spoilt, cuddles and tv at her pawtips! Things are coming along at a steady pace, slow and steady as they say wins the race! The windows are looking amazing, all that hardwork is showing in the end product everything beautifully restored. Have a good week, hopefully somewhat dryer than most of us around Europe have had this past week.❤
Pelliccia is so sweet, she is already your cat! ❤ Don't worry to leave her outside, she needs this, then she will return when she is hungry or for the night, and when it is raining outside as now, cats likes to stay home and make casini! 😅
Your cat is lovely,do you still look out for the ginger cat,and love you showing the tumbling clouds over the mountains and valleys, you are so lucky.x
Greetings from the other side of the world, Melbourne Australia. My envy knows no bounds. Been watching your progress since your channel began. Your property is like my own dream so I have been so inspired by you both. I look forward to your updates so much. Keep up the amazing work.
We planted yesterday Blackberry, Johannisbeeren, Kiwi, and Frambiosa... In my Neighbors garden is growing a Figtree with delicious fruits on it. I colected 5kg Cherrytomatos out of my Glashouse. 😊
Consider using a plastic 1 litter soda bottle to root your rose stems. Cut the bottle in half and drill holes in the bottom for drainage. Place soil and cutting in the bottom and cover with the top. Do not place in direct sunlight and cook. If you don't cover the cutting in the beginning, the stem will dry out before roots are formed.
Another lovely video! I might suggest using a root stimulator to propagate the roses. Most roses these days are grafted onto a root stock to be stronger, but older roses should, in theory, propagate easier. Best of luck!
Thank again for sharing your journey. Kitty is absolutely adorable! The wood you found stored away is wonderful, nice find and your windows look fabulous, good job! Are you two familiar with Martijn Doolaard? He is located south of Turin and up in the mountains restoring two old stone buildings. And occasionally drives in to Turin, though it’s not necessarily close to him. Also he is originally from the Netherlands. I find his work is excellent and cinematography top notch. Very creative man, like you two, love it. His videos are worthy of short documentary awards, he loves film making. Maybe you are aware of him but if not- you may enjoy his offerings. Off grid living with shepards roaming the mountains in summer, the sound of cow bells 🙂
I cut just under a nodule, put them though a growing medium in a compost filled pot. Water it thoroughly , with a plastic sac over it in an sunny frost free spot
Consider putting an Airtag tracker on Pelliccia's collar when she's allowed to roam freely on your estate. It will alleviate your concerns when or if she ends up climbing to the top of a tree or decides to take an overnight adventure. BTW, over ripe bananas & peels are excellent food to grow roses. I lived in So. Calif where the annual Rose Parade is celebrated so they know about growing roses. Bury the bananas into the soil at base of the plants. I Googled making homemade root hormone for your cuttings & best results: 1. Add 2 US tbsp (30 mL) of raw honey to 2 cups (470 mL) of freshly boiled water, then wait for it to cool. Soak your cuttings for 2-3 hours, then plant. 2. OR mash up the gel from an aloe vera leaf until it forms a runny consistency. Coat the ends of your cuttings in the gel, then plant. 3. Alternatively, crush an uncoated 325 mg aspirin pill and dissolve the powder in 1 cup (240 mL) of distilled water. Soak the cuttings for 2-3 hours, then plant.
Just to let you know you're mispronouncing the name pelliccia, because you say pelliscia instead. Quite a big difference, like faccia or fascia (and in this case the meaning is also different). Also the proper translation of fur is pelo, pelliccia is the word for fur coat. Greetings.
We are aware, thank you 😊 The way we are pronouncing it is how my late stepfather (who was from Rome) would have pronounced it. In romanesco the "tsj" sound of "cci" is less hard than in standard Italian. (Not trying to lecture you on the variations and subtleties of your own language, just an explanation of why we pronounce Pelliccia the way we do).
@@storiesfromthecascina ok, now I get it. Good luck if you'll adventure in the different pronunciations between various part of the country =) beautiful and lovely cat in any case.

this is next level renovation vlog... those drone shots are breath taking

That arched hockey stick would make a beautiful standing lamp or outdoor lantern stand. 😂👍

thank you for being kitty's safe humans. I love how she's curling up inside Bertus's jacket to stay safe, warm and loved 💙
Refreshing video. We can only watch so much of moving things from one place to the other.
I love how methodical you are, moving from task to task. And no messy job site. Oh and that kitten is fearless!

I adore Turin and haven't been for years. So lovely to have that glimpse of the city
Great job guys! Very cute kitty, hope she stays close to home.
Nice to see you have a cat with cultured taste!
What beauty surrounds you and your new life. The farm is blessed to have you two.

At least Pelliccia will know that this is a loving family... e che questa e' casa sua. 😻💝

Hi from Australia, I've been told that honey is good also.
I've used a paste of honey mixed with ground cinnamon, it works beautifully.

I bet you will use less wood this winter since your house has better insulation from the upgraded windows.
possibly/hopefully! but we also want to install a second stove to be able to heat up two extra rooms.
How's the other kitty?
What was the grasshopper?
It reminded me very much of NZ native Weta, which is larger and darker. Fiercesome but harmless.
Please tell me. What is the height above sea level of the farm. The elevation?
555 m
