  • In the forestry hills of Big Sur, California, Jayson Fann weaves, bends and shapes eucalyptus and willow branches into incredible human-sized nests. Each of these “earthly temples” weighs in at over 100,000 pounds, often requiring heavy-duty equipment to aid in transportation and construction. Now, Fann is using his nests as an educational tool, helping students discover their ability to shape and create their environment, all the while strengthening their connection with nature.

    • @Semibiased
      @Semibiased 6 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      There are over 700 species of eucalyptus. Some are bound to be endangered. But the particular species he's using has entire tree farms dedicated to growing it. So no, it's not endangered.

    I must say that although its cool and all, its a shame that he uses chainsaws and bolts. It ruins the experience of "collaborating" with nature as he says in his own words. Many people who do these kinds of things need no power tools or bolts. Only vines and saws. Its also sad that its a gas chainsaw as well and he cuts growing trees without planting, since that not collaborating with nature, thats using it to your artistic advantage... I feel that any kind of art that shines light on nature should also care for it. Art isn't just making one piece of beauty, it's seeing where it all started, seeing every brush stroke or every tree cut.

    human females lay eggs! They select a mate based on how well he can construct a nest for her to lay her egg in. Stronger NEST = more attractive female. When the female lays her egg she enters into the biological state called "nest trance" whereby her heart rate slows and her body temperature increases. physical indicators of a female in nest trance are "low eyes" (eyes appearing half closed) She will also become very aggressive towards any unfamiliar people who stray to close to her egg. She lets out a warning syren which if unheeded will be followed up by a series of swift-strikes. if this fails to deter the intruder she will let out a very high pitched squeal that is designed to alert the male who will appear rapidly and attack any and all creatures within a 10 meter radius of the nest. Once the threat is neutralised he will enter the nest where the female will then begin to graze upon him. This is the world of Nesty.
