    I’ve noticed people are so quick to leave their home once SHTF when their home is literally at their disposal- why leave a fort to go find another fort? & don’t take into consideration where and how you’ll even get that said fort once things start racking up. I believe your best option is to secure your home and put more time into making your home survival ready rather then making your trip to leave survival ready. U have everything in your home from defense , familiar territory, and a roof and walls. Your better off hunkering down then tryna be lone wolf and venture out into danger like the movies. Especially for everyday people who have 0 survival skills. Your home will always be priority one in my opinion for surviving all out collapse.

    • @TheSurvivalOutpost

      I believe that most people even those who talk about buggin out with faced w/ that reality will choose to hunker down.

      Apartments make difficult places to defend. Tons of people who aren't prepared directly around you, weak structures with no authorization to reinforce weak points. Limited escape options. Risk of fire in other Apartments spreading to yours. Minimal space to prep or even live

    • @Mrsushiinom

      @@Hydehunt yea I shoulda been more exact , I mean like homes or two story homes that are in small towns or areas that aren’t too busy. I live in a pretty regular small town on the farm lands near the mountain. No where near a big city for miles. So I see bugging out very unnecessary. So for people with similar home locations and types I just see it better to make ur home the place of operations and hunkering down in the event of when SHTF… just seems more realistic rather then fleeing into the unknown especially with how crazy the world and people are nowadays

    Adding to the island thing I would just add being at sea. Many think they'll ride out the issues especially land based natural disasters, such as earthquakes, on the oceans or seas but not only is resupply difficult and conspicuous but - PIRATES - People don't take into account the amount of marauders on the open water especially near remote islands that may look like safe harbors.

    • @TheSurvivalOutpost
      @TheSurvivalOutpost  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      that is an excellent point. PIRATES could be a real threat.

    • @Knight_Who_Says_Nee
      @Knight_Who_Says_Nee 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      And on the note of pirates especially;
      what if some of those pirates are former navy captains and admirals who went rogue with their ships once their native governments (and thus their nations as a whole) have ceased to exist in the total apocalyptic chaos that will have permaf**ked all civilization?
      Imagine a literal modern battleship or missile cruiser made of military grade steel, that still has many of its unfired missiles on it, both conventional and nuclear-- especially if the pirate ship in question was once called a nuclear missile submarine!
      And then it turns out that ship is full of pirates who are holding an entire region and all the little islands within it as hostages under threat of nuclear annihilation if all within the threatened area don't obey the ship captain's commandment to give them whatever resources (including people for human trafficking and slavery) they want.
      Basically Negan, but on a rogue navy war ship from any one of the plethora of what in that world will be no longer extistant nations.

      @webomatic44 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Into the unknown! The problem with this theorem raised is that you have to have another far better and full-proof alterative to believe taking to the sea has proprietary problems. Hell, nados take out trailer parks all the time too, so therefore, don't live in a trailer park because all others are safe? But in reality, the Earth stood still when people couldn't get toilet paper or hand sanitizer.
      And generally speaking, as a sailor and military sailor I want to share some perspective here. #1 Pirates can be found anywhere in the world, especially in the SHTF anywhere in the world. If truly hardtimes hit the fan, the worst of people will show up no matter where you try to bug out. Everyone will always be running security with their respective community, and it is smart to do so #2 Resupply can also be near impossible if S truly HTF in the local urban/suburb area. And I would argue, maybe even worse on land than at sea. At sea sailors always fish, and their sailboats often times have water makers and run solar power. Resources tend to look a little different for a full time sailor. This is where trade and barter becomes common amongst sailors. Such as trading sail repair for electrical work because one has the skill the other does not have. Or maybe I can spare a battery from my bank for a full Jerry can of diesel.
      Look, there are families doing ocean crossings everywhere in the world all the time. Literally "bugging out" like campers do, but far more intensely. Sailors and their families are always on watch and become recce experts by means of line-of-sight, comms, and even the availble choice of safe use of technology like radar, drones, or switching AIS on/off. Keeping a sharp eye on pirates and other ships is the name of the game when sailing through parts of the Western Caribbean, much of the Indian, and parts of SE Asian waters. And freighters are a constant threat that only allows a solo sailor to sleep in 20 minute increments when sailing. And don't forget, many Americans bring their 2A practices with them.
      Not being naive and preparing against all possiblilities wherever you bug is critical. Every bug out option will have a pesstimistic view point. It's about the right bug out for the right sets of people. Most people are not prepared or have any knowledge of the high seas, but they may be great at camping, or have great nomad skills and can roam well.
      And aside from a freak forest fire in Hawaii, islands are not bursting into flames. But as it being an outside and possible example, we also have to consider any threat or possiblity. Yet, weight of possiblity is important too.
      The truth to the matter is that many where very lucky to bug out on sailboats during the pandemic. Many found remote islands to land on and just chilled out and lived life.
      I would highly recommend for those that might be older than fighting age, and that can stomach the ups and downs of sea life to consider getting a good bluewater handling boat, sailing it often, prep it to cross an ocean and stock it with a 60 day supply of food and goods. The lifestyle and option to bug out should not be overlooked, that is for sure.

That us why it is important to be trained how to move and survive with the things in your pocket. Few time all i had were things i could scavenge on the road and wasnt much . Learn how to distract people. Learn how to scale walls quickly. When being chased i usually choose walls and lastlt train to go without foor or water for at least a full marathon.

    For me it's my lake cottage in rural MS an hour S.E. from my home near crazy crime ridden Memphis. Walnut Lake is a PRIVATE 50 acre lake with 3 ways in, 3 ways out. Surrounded by hundreds of acres of Holly Springs National Forest. Lots of fish, squirrels, deer, turtles, ducks, etc. Spring fed with water running out of ground near shore in places. It is vey possible for the residents to defend from outsiders, and you won't want to mess with them. Stay away in a crisis if not an owner as we will organize security posts. Each resident can be self sufficient and none of us will starve. Watch for properties to come up for sale. Small fishing cottages, and homes alike are very affordable.

    I live in the suburbs of a mid sized city. Some place you definitely want to bug out of in a SHTF scenario. Our bug out location is a large patch woods with a creek on 2 sides of it. It's in the middle of 3 large farm fields and in a very flat area. We picked this location for a few reasons. Geographical location that provides resources, there's nothing around it that would make anyone curious to want to go check it out. Sparsely populated area and it's big enough to hide a propane tanker in. It's still a work in progress, it's not perfect, but I don't think there is a "perfect" place. You just have to make due with the best you can come up with. This is just a general idea of our location and why it is.

    The best place is an abandoned building with few stories that is away from cities but still reasonably accessible to cities and other places. A lot of people stay away from abandoned building as I’ve noticed during the Philadelphia rioting. It has a roof and have places to store your cashes, you can build a makeshift castle. Close to cities for supplies but away so you can hunt and catch good without getting caught.

    Any location is ideal or terrible under the right or worse conditions. In general, the more primitive setups will be the best which amounts to a good, solid shelter with access to water and wildlife. As long as you're not fighting off invaders and thieves and under constant threat by people, weather, etc., then you can manage where you are with some resources as long as you can access them.
    I also think being mobile can be beneficial, but your vehicle, other than a horse, pony, mule or donkey (elephants in other countries) or maybe a dog cart has to be either brand new or in perfect working condition with all critical parts replaced and enough spare tires and belts, hoses, etc., so you can travel without a breakdown. The goal would be to have a permanent place either for life or as long as possible until you find a safe place. That vehicle is not going to last forever without the ability to maintain and repair it at some point.
    For me the big question is do you have an alternative plan if you have to leave your current home. And can you get out by vehicle or by foot? How would you bug out or relocate? Do you have seed trays or a bucket garden or even a tire garden that can be moved? And if you have a place to go to, has it been built up and stocked? Can you transport supplies and equipment?

    What if the only available prepping community in a given area is full of people who won't let you in because of your unique take on a) what you see coming, and b) how you plan to defend yourself in it?
    Me, for example;
    While guns are a part of my SHTF defense plan, I'm also operating in anticipation for a time when whole regions will see a nigh-permanent depletion of all modern ammo for all modern guns due to all that fancy modern ammo having been used up in the initial martial law versus freedom new civil war - a conflict mind you, that will not only use up all modern ammo stores for everyone, but also the destructive chaos of which I anticipate as perma-wiping away all modern industry and civilization along with it (and therefore, any semblance of a modern firearms industry to manufacture more modern ammo for resupply as well as the apocalyptic end of most mining operations everywhere to acquire and refine the raw materials of which ammo is made, such as brass for bullet casings).
    Thus, whoever's left of man will be forced back to older and older forms of warfare and older technologies all around (including older weapons engineering).
    Therefore, I foresee a post-apocalyptic world that has manifested as follows:
    In the times to come, people defending their isolated self-governing apocalypse towns against looting and pillaging by the future empires and mad max gangs that arose from the ashes will be fighting with everything from old west & revolutionary war guns to full blown medieval melee weapons and castle siege warfare fought against and from within formerly abandoned concrete buildings and the like.
    The post-apocalyptic world I anticipate (and am therefore actively prepping for) will see the return of the flintlock musket soldier, the new age viking, the medieval knight, and the native american warrior brave.
    And now, back to me in all this:
    I am predominantly German, and thus my warrior training vein of choice (as my way of getting ahead of the game on all of the above) is to train in late 14th & early 15th century German medieval weapons combat and full blown crusades style castle siege & anti-siege warfare.
    My main hand weapons of choice are the German longsword, German single handed sword and shield, the euro tomahawk, the back-spiked war hammer on 20" pole shaft, the full blown 60+ inch medieval pole ax with integral spear tip and hooked back spike, the medieval dagger, and the winged war spear.
    My unarmed combat style of choice is the 14th century German medieval knightly wrestling style called "Ringenkunst." It's basically medieval Germany's version of Japanese samurai Jujutsu, and was meant to be used both in and out or full plate medieval German knightly armor, and either used by itself hand to hand or in combination with any number of hand held melee weapons to include but not be limited to the medieval longsword or one handed sword, dagger, tomahawk, etc.
    My gas free mode of transpo will eventually be my war horse in medieval horse armor, in which case I'm also studying knightly horse cavalry tactics involving the use of sword from horse, lance and spear on horse, etc.
    So if I go to join a prepper community and it's the only on for the area, what if they will not let me in because I'm not JUST... LIKE... THEM... IN... EVERY... WAY...?
    Your thoughts on that?
