So its wrong to say the 'B' is 'inferior' to the 'C'. Especially as first sorties are launched far quicker off a ramp than a Cat. 4. F-35Cs are not 'modified for carrier operation'. BUT in 2010 neither Converteam UK or GA in the USA could give guarantees of a) price, b) performance or c) reliability. We would have had to fund the development. Its why the USS Gerald R Ford cost $18 Bn and the two QEs cost a combined $10 Bn. And 7 years after launch the Ford can still not launch reliably. 6. I would suggest two 70,000 ton supercarriers that can go round the world (as proven) and launch 5th Gen fighters faster than a Nimitz are terrific value for money. 7. For what the Yanks paid for two Ford Class ($30 Bn) we could build 6 x QEs.... The only waste is the oxygen nuggets like you steal .....

Neither aircraft carrier has been deployed to a hostile environment, nor are they ever likely to be. They are under equipped, with only 8 F35Bs ever being embarked, and without catapult and arrester wires, they continue to have no fixed-wing AEW, instead relying on inferior helicopter AEW. There RN paid the price for that with the Invincible class mini carriers in the Falklands War. You would have thought that the RN would have put that right when they built full size replacements by adding launch catapults and arrester landing gear. For the Middle-east hotspot RAF Akrotiri on Cyprus continues to be the UK's only carrier of note. No doubt Dear Leader Starlin wants to ditch the Cyprus bases ASAP and give the Cypriots lots of money to do so, just like Diego Garcia.
