  • My third time hiking Green Mountain on Ascension Island, I finally think to bring my camera. We hike up to the Dew Pond, Elliot's Pass, and Bishop's Pass.

One of the prettiest islands on the Earth !!! Its spellbinding natural prettiness is truly heavenly !!! I would love to live there and to take walks every day amidst this so soul-thrilling island's landscape !!!

It’s not natural at all, the forest you’re seeing in this video is entirely man-made.
When Ascension Island was discovered, there were no trees on it, and virtually no plant life at all.
99.9% of the plants you see in this video were introduced to the island by people, sourced from all around the world.

Wonderful coverage. It was really nice how you managed to capture the nature. Also the tons of ginger cracked me up.
The camera oversaturated some colours though and was struggling to manage the exposure.
    Thanks for the upload !!!

I was on Ascension in 1982 and it was a lot less green then, it is surprising how nature is spreading so rapidly. I frequently walked the trail from Two Boats up to the Dew Pond just for something to do. I didn't know about this trail you have been following but would have loved to do it. It was always a pleasure to go from the hot and humid side through the tunnel by the Red Lion to the cool and windy side that the Dew Pond was on.

Since the 1980’s there has been a 40% increase in global plant cover.
The reason for this global greening of the earth is mostly due to the increasing concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere, as the availability of atmospheric CO2 is usually the limiting factor in plant growth.
This global greening trend is occurring in all habitat types, but it is especially pronounced in dry, arid dessert type environments such as Ascension Island. This is because the higher the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere, the more efficiently plants are able to use water. They lose less water to evaporation during photosynthesis.

I wanna go there ,there is something heavenly going on there ,something I can't put into words thank you for the video, do you know why Google maps has so many bad reviews of that place? It makes it seem like they don't the people to go there.

I think you are right and looking in Packer's guide to the Island he does list Pandanus odorata - Screwpine.
