      One more thing I always forget to ask you Dave: Have you been playing around with Capture One at all? There's lot of potential there, I would love to hear your take on that program.

      +Nicolás Cuervo I never use new programs LR+PS that's it. They work great. I'd rather spend time getting better at either of them then spend time learning the basics of a new program. That's my take...even if capture one is awesome:)

    Man you have one of the best photography channels on youtube, that deserves more subs. Keep up the good work.

    • @DaveMorrow
      @DaveMorrow  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +lintownboy thanks so much. I really appreciate that.
      Just a guess but it's probably because I spend my time as a landscape photographer where as many youtube channels spend all their time as TH-camrs promoting their actual youtube ( usually posting weekly or more ). That same time for me goes into traveling and shooting, editing photos, growing website traffic ( info on this below ), and growing an email list ( 40,000 ppl at this point ) which i feel is a much more sustainable method long term. These are things I also have 100% control over and always will.
      My main goal is to target niche topic keywords on Google which meet the same criteria as things I'm passionate about in life. Google search is the most visited website on earth and drives traffic directly to my site with 1 click where TH-cam it takes 2 clicks to get to my site. That one click is a HUGE difference.
      If you google, "star photography", "star photography tutorial", "northern lights photography tutorial" you'll see where I put in my time;) You can do that for both web search and image search. This drives a lot of traffic directly to my website.
      Just a few insights on how I think about growing traffic in a sustainable way. I believe TH-cam is truly sustainable for Google, but I'm not sure how sustainable it is for the people that base their entire income on it since their entire user base is all in the hands of Google's decisions. That would be a scary thing in my opinion.
      None the less I still love creating on this platform, it's such an awesome service:)
      Sorry if that was too much information. I just really like this sort of discussion!
      Cheers & Thanks,
      Dave

      Dave Morrow
      nono dont apologize, I love that you took your time to give me a informal and well written answer. I want to promote my own website, and im going to do the google keyword thing also. I also get that you are out on the road a lot creating these images for us. Do you have 500px or 1x accounts? I dont think iv seen you on those sites.

    • @DaveMorrow
      @DaveMorrow  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +lintownboy Cool! That's awesome.
      A website is where most of your time should go. My advice would be don't worry too much about any services that you can't control ( Facebook, Twitter, TH-cam, etc ). These are great tools to drive traffic and communicate with others, but not a great place to build a long term successful business model.
      All Entrepreneurs have different business models that works ( or may not ) for them. I knew I liked to travel and take lots of time off, sometimes 3 months away from my business at a time. So for me a scalable model that was completely automated and made the same amount of income if I was there or away was key.
      With social media you need to have nearly constant physical input to gain an output ( I use Co-Schedule for this then pop in to answer questions here and there ). With a large traffic website with lots of good information that ranks highly in Google you don't need constant input to get the same or larger amounts of output. Google doesn't care of your content is new or old, only that it is pertinent and very informative for the keywords it's highly ranked for. This is why it's much better to build on your own domain and gain search authority than to spend that same time on social media. This is black and white, there isn't a right or wrong. It's pure logic:)
      That being said all free tools should be heavily analyzed using the Pareto Principle and Power Law:
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareto_principle
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_law
      When I run social media through these they fall completely. When I run building authoritative websites through this they win the gold.
      That being said you'll notice something like TH-cam does an awesome job to compliment my large / high ranking tutorials on my website. For each big tutorial I write a video tutorial usually helps to add to the information. Google Search does search and "crawl" youtube, but does not do so with facebook. Everything you do on Facebook is essentially time lost, where everything you do on your website can work for you long term in an exponential way.
      This is my scientific approach to building a sustainable business model that scales with out constant and repetitive input.
      Check out these sites, they have helped me immensely in growing traffic in an effective way, allowing the filtering of target audience in niche topics. The smart passive income podcast is amazing when you're starting out in that stuff and even after you gain some knowledge.
      www.smartpassiveincome.com/
      backlinko.com/
      In regards to 500PX yes I use it. My assistant does all the photo uploading and and workflow for me, I go in an chat with people once a week or so:) No go on the 1X. I try to limit those accounts to facebook, 500px and instagram. That's it. All those are handled by my team, but I'm the one that goes in a answers comments.
      Another long explanation, but you said you enjoyed the last!
      Cheers,
      Dave

      Enjoy the day!

    Hey Dave, great video! However, I have another problem. Which is vertical banding in my photo. I stacked 28 images with a median filter, but got the banding. It appears as purple vertical lines. I've tried adding noise, or Dfine 2 but neither has worked. Any ideas on what I should do? Cheers

      Hi Dave, great video (as always). one question: why do you recommend to do noise reduction as the LAST step. don't you amplify the noise with other processing steps?

    • @DaveMorrow
      @DaveMorrow  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +AstrophotographyDiaries Sure anytime. Thanks. I rarely do destructive / noise inducing editing. This is just my personal preference from editing thousands of images. Everything I show on here is personal preference from lots of testing:) Do what works best for you!

    Hi Dave, great tutorial except it's not working for me-I don't get what you get on screen, my first Alpha channel looks like your first Darks channel, then if I follow the process from there it seems to do the opposite - gets lighter instead of darker. Any clues? Cheers, Alex
