Ate poke salad growing up.You have to boil it 3 times, change the water.Add bacon, onion, egg or whatever you have.Stretch the budget!Squirrel, rabbit and venison.
Loved having Jamie back on the job! And to answer the question why Eric drives the equipment… when your name is on the insurance policy you drive the equipment!
I'm a gardener who gets poison Ivy bad sometimes. Jason.... 3 things that helped me. Epsom Salts baths - soak for a while it helps clean it and healing. Zanfel - a product you can buy that helps take away the itch and calm it down so it heals. Unfortunately expensive. and Fels Naptha soap to wash the areas, they sell it as laundry soap, but in a bar form. PI can be a royal pain etc. Hope it doesn't bother you too much.
Always checking everyday if you uploaded a video. Shout out The Perkings brothers, Johno, King Arlo, the ever cool Ray and the funny guy Jason... Sending love all the way from China. --- From Basit (Not a Chinese)
Awesome video guys. I’m pretty sure the perf pipe should be completely wrapped in filter fabric. As in lay the fabric first, then pipe, then gravel over it, then wrap back over like a burrito. Then dump the fill dirt over top of that. This way it’s protected from mud entry on all sides
Poke weed salad is actually taken from an old english name salet I believe, which I think meant cooked. He was right you have to prepare poke weed correctly to make it safe to eat. Since it was the first to come up in the spring it got people through the remainder of the winter by eating it in early spring.
I've been binging your videos for about 2 weeks now and I wanted to let you know how fun and entertaining you guys are. My father was a superintendent on many historic buildings in our city and my brother was a carpenter that worked for him for years. I worked as a carpenters labor one summer and had a blast. Hard work kept me in top condition and made the work day fly by. I ended up becoming a software engineer and hurt my back in the gym. I'm in my 60's now and although I have done many decent home projects including some additions and remodeling with my back and other injuries, I can only live these construction dreams vicariously through youtube channels that now include yours. Thank you so much for the fun content and for your commitment to doing the job right.
My grandmother once told me that when she was little (early 1900) she used to have nettle soup (the stinging kind). It always intrigued me so I made it one day and surprisingly it was quite good. I couldn't get anyone to try it.
+1 to the backing up float mode, makes it 100X easier. Jaime's hand is looking pretty badass, as someone with 1 hand from the get go, I can't imagine how hard it is to readapt to things
I'm from Scotland and was on holiday in America when I was younger. Me and my brother were playing with a ball in the pool and kept hitting the ball over a patch of ivy. We'd never heard of poison ivy so we just ran barefoot over to get the ball. Once we got out the pool we realised the bottom of our feet were shredding, the skin just falling off with the combination of poison ivy and being in the pool all day. That wasn't fun!
When I want to move to America, you are the guys for building my house. I watched you for a long time and it is always awesome to see you build something up. Keep it movin. Kind regards from Germany.
Good point. I remember getting out of college and getting interviewed for "entry level" jobs that require 3+ years of experience... That's what I went to school for! To get 4+ years of experience in this field. I ended up having to bounce from shit job to shit job working with high school students for 3 years to build up a resume. It certainly made em thankful for the job I have now.
Had to look it up. Polk(poke) weed is edible. Cooked like greens. There was even a song “poke salad Annie”. I expect @JamiePerkins and crew to do a cover.
When you backfill the drain rock against the foundation turn the bucket around and pin it on backwards. Then it will be easy to get the rock right against the wall.
Poke salad!! Lol. Found you guys a few weeks back and I have been binge watching your videos. From Arkansas (&also diabetic Ray, 40 years of living with it!!) but I love the Smoky Mts .!! Have ridden motorcycles all over the area!! You guys pay attention to detail and I enjoy all of your explanations and the camaraderie that you share!! Keep up the good videos!! God Bless!!
Looking good! Glad to see Jamie🤗 and hear him!😉. Poor Jason, he has to be in misery, hopefully he got a shot to help with that poison ivy. Great crew, love the videos and looking forward to the reveal of the completed project. Happy 4th❤️🤍💙🇺🇸🎇🎆
Thanks men... I learned alot on this video about French drainage. I wished i knew this stuff about 20 year's ago. It could have saved me some headaches. It's now my ex-wifes problem.😁 can't wait for the next vid!
It’s also called poke sallet. There’s a festival here in southeastern Kentucky called the poke sallet festival and they cook it and serve it and stuff. Ive never eaten it though.
8:29 I was told it was spelt polkweed but pronounced "poke-weed" As for the salad, if you harvest the leaves during the spring and boil them twice they are apparently edible and taste like spinach
Meant to say this on #8; glad to see and know when Jaimie got his bionic glove; he needs to upload to his channel, a wealth of knowledge waiting to happen on his end as well Awesome videos 👍👍
Polk salad is eggs and Polk weed cooked like scrambled eggs! I’m from Oklahoma and ate it a lot growing up. Use to drive backroads looking for wild Polk and wild onions!
What better to do is to watch PBB with wife together & talk about the build on the 4th of July!! You guys are the best!! Happy 4th to Arlo, Ray, Jay, Jono, Jamie, Erik and your family's..Keep up the good good & see you'll in the next video!!
You guys are my kind of people to work with you guys do things the right way even if it takes a little bit extra time. And y’all like to have fun while working hard. I have my own construction remodeling company here in Texas so if y’all are ever out this way building something you should give me a holler I would love to work with y’all.
Always enjoy you guys.I noticed Jamie with his new hand helper.Has he commented on how he's doing with it?Keep up the great work, and keep that humor up front..from an ol Vermonter!
Poke weed salad is delicious. You have to pick it when is young. I can’t remember all the steps but fried with an scrambled eggs and vinegar. I haven’t had it since I was a kid. My mom and grandma would always fix it.
Love your videos and the new build, so give England your thumbs up in Euro 2020! (what the hell is that i hear you ask?) Come on chaps, i'm supporting your build from England so give us a like! :)
Thank you for the content that you are providing. Please consider expanding your content to include the Business Side of a home builder business such as bidding, purchasing and p&L.
I have randomly found you guys about a couple weeks ago working on this place and im honestly hooked, its like a mini tv series with you guys. Yall are hilarious and still provide content of what you are doing and Ive learned alot already. Appreciate the content and Happy 4th!
You guys are THE coolest people on ALL of TH-cam I love all of your videos. You would make a great college professor on Home Building Sciences. Godspeed to you and your company.
"Polk Salad Annie” is a 1968 song written and performed by Tony Joe White.[1] Its lyrics describe the lifestyle of a poor rural Southern girl and her family. Traditionally, the term to describe the type of food highlighted in the song is polk or poke sallet, a cooked greens dish made from pokeweed.[2] Its 1969 single release peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100. In Canada, the song made No. 10 on the RPM Magazine Hot Singles chart. Elvis Presley's version also made the song popular.
For poison ivy get Tecnu from Walgreens or CVS. There's a couple formulations, one I use like a lotion for prevention whenever I'm going to be working around brush especially around trees, and another one that's like a gritty soap that I scrub my arm or leg with after I've been exposed. It removes the poison oil from the pores and prevents, or at least minimizes the rash and itching. Use it several times a day on an existing rash and it will heal faster.
I love your job humor! Regarding your drainage system, y'all should check out youtube videos on french drains. The best idea is to burrito wrap the gravel and pipe together. You don't have to put gravel under the pipe if you put your non-woven fabric down first. This way there is little chance of dirt build up in the rock and pipe over time.
Hey guys !! Eric!! Ask Jason where he got his straw hat from?? My name is Jason as well and I where straw hats every summer during work hours because we also home build. My hats however are usually cheap . His looks sturdy and real nice . Appreciate it the videos ! Love you guys!
Yeah, wood is crazy expensive lately. we used to buy a cubic meter for 700 Eur but now its about 2400 eur. I certanly feel your pain. Love the channel btw. You make building a house pure joy to watch!
I'll be glad when things get back to normal after Covid. Hopefully wood prices will return to normal soon. So glad we do not have Poison Ivy over here in the UK.
You Know... That you can Reverse the bucket... Take the Pin Out and spin it around and put the Pin Back In That way the gravel comes out close to the wall
TH-cam! This here is good content! Recommend it already!
Looking good 👍🏴

Sounds like a lot of work…
*Jaimie's new hand looks so bad ass.*
I agree! I have to get me one of them!
Loved having Jamie back on the job! And to answer the question why Eric drives the equipment… when your name is on the insurance policy you drive the equipment!
Good morning Perkins Builder's and crew. Let's get some back filled in, greetings from Jamaica 🇯🇲🇯🇲🙏
Thanks for watching!
What Jason said about college is the truest thing I’ve heard all day

Making good progress. Signs of a good builder when he's thinking about the roof as he builds the floor 😉

Happy July 4th to everyone from Grenoble, Olympic city in the French Alps
Always a good day when a Perkins building video is posted! Happy Birthday America!

Happy 4th. Hang in there guys! Lumber is dropping back to normal.
Too late for this house. Hope it’s not biting into the prophet too badly.
Luckily, we saved 16 cents on our bbq today.

IMO, you guys have a great blend of work , instructional, and humor . So many get carried away with their own silliness, it gets hard to watch.
Not sure why I like these building videos but I’m hooked!
Great milestone to get in the french drain and all that back fill and grading done. Yee haw!
Jamie’s back...yeah!
Seems like Jamie's hand is working perfect for him 🤩😊
Happy 4th! You guys stay safe, and have fun
Jason is Arlo in the making coming up with the great ideas 👍🏻
Jay you always answer the bell. Great worker!😊

Just leaving that comment to let youtube know to recommend good content to other people. Keep on keepin' on!
Your videos are top notch, and watch your team work together is a pure joy.
Polk Salad is awesome! You've got to pick it while it is young - no way would I even try to eat that monster!
I was taught it was poke salad and it tastes like spinach 😋 A poke is a sack .
Thanks men... I learned alot on this video about French drainage. I wished i knew this stuff about 20 year's ago. It could have saved me some headaches. It's now my ex-wifes problem.😁 can't wait for the next vid!

That way the gravel comes out close to the wall
