      Not all robots put someone out of a job. For example, the jumper is intended to assist search and rescue.
      Some robots that would put people out of jobs are intended to fill a deficit in people to do that job.
      For example, in Japan there aren’t enough young people to provide the services needed by their aged population, so they are developing robots to assist the younger people. In addition, the younger people don’t want to be farmers, so they are developing robots for that.
      Some robots are to take over positions that are dangerous or cause frequent injuries.
      Will some robots put some people out of a job? Without a doubt. Would I want to do a mindless job any robot could do? Nope. Is any robot a bad idea? Nope.
      Leaping to a conclusion using a simple solution to solve a complex problem is what led us to where we are today. We need to do better and learn about the problem before making up our minds.

    • @tatovive
      @tatovive 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You’re totally right. I just recently heard a program on when the mechanical weaving machines were introduced. This was like 200 years ago. Now 1 person who could afford the machine, screws over thousands of with zero repercussions. Sounds really familiar. There was a death sentence for anyone caught sabotaging machines. It makes me sick, people are so disappointing

    • @Simple_But_Expensive
      @Simple_But_Expensive 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tatovive The people throwing wooden shoes (sabots) were called luddites. They feared that mechanical looms would put them out of a job. Previously, they had been using manual one person looms and could only turn out a few yards in a day of hard work. In addition, it took a master weaver to do patterns.
      What they didn’t realize, was that the mills that were being set up required just as many people, and that instead of crouching over a loom all day, they would be machine tenders instead.
      In addition, any mechanical loom could be set up to do patterns, making patterns cheap enough for everyone, and increasing demand by a factor of 1000. Very few people actually lost their jobs, their jobs just changed.
      The argument I frequently hear is that horsless carriages put buggy whip makers out of business, but they went into auto upholstery instead. This wouldn’t be true with many robots, since the only need would be for a few robot repairmen.
      As I said, it is a complex problem. Some robots would alleviate dangerous or drudgery type jobs. Some robots would take jobs away from people. Unfortunately, you can’t have the first without the second.
      The robots can be a danger to blue collar jobs. AI is already a danger to white collar jobs. It may be that we will need to design a completely new form of economics when all jobs are done by machines and nobody works.
      As the song said “This could be heaven or this could be hell.”
      I am old enough I am pretty sure I won’t see it. You might want to start learning about the subject and thinking about it now. That way you don’t get blindsided, or worse yet jump on the simple solution to a complex problem. That always creates bigger problems down the line.

    2:00 As someone who loaded and unloaded pallets in my 20s for Home Depot. This sounds great but the reality is that every pallet is different. Wood breaks, Pallet overloaded, not enough plastic wrap, and load shifting are all real issues. I could see those rails getting stuck by malformed or failed pallet during shipping. Plus the elephant in the room, who is loading and unloading the machine? The lack of space to lateral is not realistic. That automation pallet would need to be loaded by forklifts and most drivers are not accurate enough depending on the loads being shipped.

    i dont think that pallet idea would work, if you ever worked in logistics....pallets from trucks are a mishmash of things tall short fat stacked and long....

    • @fafski1199
      @fafski1199 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep, and then they are not always stacked n' wrapped correctly. Also, the quality and condition of pallets themselves can be an issue. I've seen many just fall apart or disintegrate as a forklift has lifted them. If that was to happen on a rail system it would be absolute Nightmare job cleaning up the mess and getting it up and running again.
      Plus, with the rail system in the way, you'd then be unable to load/unload trucks the conventional way, when something does inevertably go wrong. I say "inevertably" because as anyone knows who has worked in a warehouse or a factory that uses automated machinery and robots, it will breakdown at some point or other and those breakdowns will likely occur on a fairly regularly basis.
      Basically, it's a good idea on paper and in theory, but in reality it simply wouldn't work in most situations. Things just aren't that perfect, uniformed or consistant back in reality.
