I woke up to enlightenment today. So subtle I had missed it all this time. All I had was stories, and concepts- all obviously unreal now. A great work of art but nothing more.

Hi Alan, Do you have any videos by Rupert where he explains what "prior to Consciousness" means. Nisagardatta used this term. I think its simply that state where there is just a "knowing.".....no beingness, no I-amness as even these are known and arise out of consciousness which knows itself through the finite mind. After listening to this video, I almost don't care about "prior to consciousness," except I was wondering what Nisaggardatta was referring to.

It's just impossible to grasp it with one's mind. I can't say my inner understanding is very deep. I just feel I am and I sense that all around is full with the same Being as me. For the present moment I consider it's more than enough) Maybe in time my understanding will be more profound, but I don't set any goal here. Thank you, Alan and Rupert for the Wisdom of Reality ❤️

    what a teaching!
It's a silent blast that crumbles the beliefs of separate independent self. Rupert took me as a child of his own and showed the ultimate truth with simply as simple as blinking eyes.

We shift from the nature of the experience to the infinite field of awareness in which all experiences arise and subside. The activity of mind occurs in the vastness of awareness. So we perceive all external constructs from the space behind the body mind.

10:25 "only awareness is aware". Much appreciated as it is so easy to slip into the belief that it is "I" the body mind that is aware 😢 even for those of us who readily admit that it is awareness that is aware of the body-mind and not the other way around.
This has been a long-lasting point of stuckness for me. It is easy for me to admit that I-Awareness, my essential Beingness remains unaffected by the loss of body parts such as arms and limbs but I hit a snag when it comes to the head 😅 However, something does seem to be lost.and if not awareness then what?

I had understood what he was saying intellectually, for some time, then one night as I was contemplating it, for whatever reason awareness itself eclipsed the sense of self I had taken for granted for 50 years.
It lasted for maybe a second or two and I can’t say that since then my experience of “myself” has been radically different, but I’m hopeful that this is the beginning of a process that will gradually deepen.

The effective way to become established as presence is to relax body and mind for short moments whenever the reminder comes to do so. Trying to force long periods as awareness doesn't work as it turns that which is natural and ever present into a practice. How can you practice, that which you already are? I will see if I can ask Rupert this question in our zoom course in 2 days.

    • @alanneachell9092
      @alanneachell9092  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Some Vedanta teachings use consciousness to mean only experiencing (apparent world) and so pure knowing or emptiness would be prior to that.
Rupert uses knowing and consciousness synonymously and that works fine as we trace our way back from known to knowing.
Buddhism talks about the void which would be prior to consciousness.

    • @alanneachell9092
      @alanneachell9092  3 ปีที่แล้ว

It's interesting to see that the actual truth can't be spoken. Nisagaddata uses one model to try to explain his experience and Rupert uses another.
They both speak from direct experience but we should avoid getting stuck in any model and rather, become our own authority using direct experience.

Awareness and thought are NOT the same.
    Awareness can perceive reality directly.

      *Monet Refuses the Operation*
      _BY LISEL MUELLER_
Doctor, you say there are no haloes
      around the streetlights in Paris
and what I see is an aberration
caused by old age, an affliction.
I tell you it has taken me all my life
to arrive at the vision of gas lamps as angels,
to soften and blur and finally banish
the edges you regret I don’t see,
to learn that the line I called the horizon
does not exist and sky and water,
so long apart, are the same state of being.
Fifty-four years before I could see
      Rouen cathedral is built
      of parallel shafts of sun,
and now you want to restore
      my youthful errors: fixed
      notions of top and bottom,
      the illusion of three-dimensional space,
      wisteria separate
      from the bridge it covers.
What can I say to convince you
      the Houses of Parliament dissolve
      night after night to become
the fluid dream of the Thames?
I will not return to a universe
of objects that don’t know each other,
as if islands were not the lost children
of one great continent. The world
is flux, and light becomes what it touches,
      becomes water, lilies on water,
      above and below water,
becomes lilac and mauve and yellow
      and white and cerulean lamps,
      small fists passing sunlight
      so quickly to one another
that it would take long, streaming hair
inside my brush to catch it.
To paint the speed of light!
      Our weighted shapes, these verticals,
      burn to mix with air
and change our bones, skin, clothes
      to gases. Doctor,
      if only you could see
how heaven pulls earth into its arms
and how infinitely the heart expands
to claim this world, blue vapor without end.

Alan Neachell I apologise for the way this sounded, rather too blunt. I meant no personal offence. Yes, I understand you are doing a good thing posting RS’s talks, and thank you. My ‘frustration’ is with so many people posting talks by spiritual teachers - none of whom choose to use a new-agey type soundtrack as they speak, or presumably they would include it in their talks - and WHY people then decide it is incomplete without a soundtrack? Is his talk really incomplete or missing something by not having a musical accompaniment?
