Hey Teej, you can't even imagine how much I need these kinds of stuff. I guess currently, I have an output-focused mind that depressed me in these days, when I read documents about Rust, about anything related to programming, saying "C'mon, stupid. Why haven't you built something that people use already?" I think this is a harmful addiction of mine, and wise masters like you and Prime help me to relax in these dark ages :), as someone who likes programming because of its mindset and community. Just wanted to say thanks! Stay safe.

      @peppermilldetective8154 8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +13

A person's ability to program is not tied to making something that others can use. I learned this from the game "The Beginner's Guide". It was about someone who loved making games, but never once made a game for others to play. You only need to make something others use when it's your job to do so. Outside of a job, there is nothing about programming that forces you to make something for others. Your time is yours.
Also, when you're doing your thing, and you start having the "c'mon stupid" thoughts, try to immediately follow those self-insults with self-praise. You are worth praising. You are doing things that are worth praising. You are actively trying to learn, and are actively reading in an attempt to learn. I have worked with people who don't do that when it's their job to do that. Yet here you are doing it when it's not your job. That's awesome!
Keep going. Learning takes time, and how long it takes is irrelevant. As long as you are trying, you're doing good. If it feels overwhelming, try working in smaller bits. Sometimes taking notes can help. If it still feels overwhelming, take a break.
      You earned it.

@@peppermilldetective8154 I'm sorry but any responsible human will feel the need to do something that benefits others. It's hard to claim that you're good at something if nobody else sees it. You can't just pretend it doesn't matter. It's the mother of most creations, and it's a good thing. Now it doesn't have to be through being hostile to yourself, that's just another problem.

    Had never heard of you.
Wanted to try Neovim as my main editor next year.
    Found this series.
    Fell in love with Neovim.
    Learned Lua.
Loved your teaching style and sense of humor.
And then topped it off to find out you're family and we'll be kicking it in heaven one day!
Fantastic series, man. Thank you for taking the time to make it.

Thank you so much for this series, I just learned about NVim a month ago and now I need to get it in my veins.

You the man Teej! This series has helped me reconfigure my nvim setup from scratch, allowing me to remove some redundant code and get things working in a much nicer manner (with fewer errors too!). The cherry on the cake is that I learnt more along the way and feel more capable tweaking things to my liking.
Anyway, hope you have a nice Christmas with your family and I look forward to more content in the new year ❤

I'm still not ready to replace vscode tough, I made a lot of bindings based off neovim there to get used to it.
The only thing I can`t replace is the ctrl+shift+f, telescope does help a lot, but I don't always wanna to do fuzzy findings.
I want to do simple regexs more than anything, and include/exclude patterns with history by workspace.
I'll try to write a plugin for this, but I think that is the main thing holding me back atm.
