Shay locomotives were developed by Ephraim Shay. His first successful engine that we would recognize today as a Shay locomotive was produced in 1880 by Lima Machine Works (later, Lima Locomotive Works), who would go on to produce approximately 2,700 up until 1945, when production ceased.

@@longmonttrains548 It belongs to the Midwest Central Railroad in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and I'm a member of that railroad and we owned it since 1966 and it was on lease to the Georgetown Loop from 2011-2019 and came back in 2019

...three years ago and I am still on high from my visit; that is such a fantastic place! I'm still soooo heartsore that I lost all my beautiful pictures :(

Is this a narrow gauge railroad or standard gauge? Eastern railroads employing the Shay, Climax and Heislers were all standard gauge so I'm guessing that this is a narrow gauge since so many railroads were narrow gauge out west.

anthony 35 I haven’t been there in years, but they may have been closed for maintenance. I will google it and see if they have a website. Good luck with your next visit.
