Platinum is rare, the whole amount mined in all of history fits inside a small house. Where did they get it, why did no one notice, where did she get the money from within the impoverished Earth Kingdom, where did they manufacture the robot and how, what makes platinum purer than steel etc. Season four really went off the rails.
People who can bend flames, water, earth and air are so rare they could probably fit inside a small room Well great thing this isn’t our world so we can’t apply real life facts can we?
Kuvira was done so dirty in this season. She was the one who lead the ONLY effort into restoring law and order in the Earth Kingdom. People where being murdered, towns burning, mass starvation and who knows what else. Suyin little rant about freedom and choice was just some half a** plot point. The Earth Kingdom was in complete chaos, you can't complain if you do NOTHING to solve the problem. The way they just said Kuvira is evil and doing evil things, but never shows them. That was a complete cop out. We see her more doing everything to save the people of the Earth Kingdom. Finally "the world leaders" picking the next Earth King, which is BS alone. How about the other nation picked their next leader, I bet that would go down well. Plus the kid is a complete loser and would be rolled by everyone. The fact she was passed over and told to take a hike. No, she had ever right to take control.
I think a big point about a lot of Korra's villain structure is that no one is ever completely in the right and the wrongs have a pretty reasonable foundation first. Kuvira is totally justified in wanting to provide structure to the actual chaos caused by Zaheer. However, the way she goes about it is too much. The protagonists obviously have a problem with it, but their solution is also not as good as it could be. The show makes you think, and I appreciate that about it. Suyin declining the offer to help restructure I felt was a display of good self awareness. She knows how power works and she knew she wasn't the right person for the job. Such a position is reasonably outside some's limits. Kuvira does loads of underhanded things. She is a master manipulator as shown with her fiancee, Bolin, Varrik, the villages she "restors", Korra, etc. She is frequently shown imposing her will with her silver tongue, manipulating, then taking things by force when things don't pan out. The fact that she is also placing people into concentration caps for no reason besides segregation is also a pretty bad thing she does. The world leaders picking is a little sus but made sense given the circumstances. I mean, the earth kingdom was in actual chaos at the time, so it was a bit difficult to hold an actual election.
Um no, Kuvira is shown form the get go to be a pro authoritarian, imposing law and order is one thing, but she literally then uses that as a means to expand her power, intimidation as well as forces people to join her and follow her will, ethnically cleanse the country, etc. etc. She is clearly shown be power hungry and using the situation of the kingdom to impose her metal reich, just like hitler and the nazis did with the crumbling germany.
In the comics, it later turns out that Kuvira wasn't even conducting ethnic cleansing. The judges in Kuvira's court trial in the comics list off all her "offenses" and not single one of them is ethnic cleansing. They also retconned Kuvira's history with the Beifongs to make Suyin look like a good person rather than her acknowledging her faults. Her reeducation camps were apparently meant strictly for rehabilitation of threats and potential threats to the state. Kuvira had access to brainwashing technology but didn't use it because she believed it to be immoral.
@@GreatUniter She was literally kicking out the non earth benders and she was imprisoning dissenters and critics in reeducation camps and or interment camps... and yes reeducation camps are totalitarian no matter their use. She literally threatens and intimidate multiple states to rejoin her neo earth kingdom empire where she wants to bring back all territories to earth kingdom even capital city so we have a campaign of reunification of lost land and or territory based on ethnic presence and “ancestral” sovereignty the same excuse hitler used to Annex Czechoslovakia, Ukraine, Austria etc. She literally tells many states if you don’t join me i will take you over anyway but we’ll just leave a higher body count. also hitler refused to use poison gas in WWII because of his experience with it in world war I as a soldier the fact he chose to do that does not excuse and or matter to his overall rule of evil and oppression. Nor does her refusal to use mind control especially when she can literally choke and or threaten her enemies and subordinates into subjugation or else be arrested and or killed. This is why I don't bother with the comics, they serve as cannon muddling side option and usually are used to retcon things all the time.
My very conservative grandma accidentally bought me all three volumes of the comic where Korra and Asami kiss and all I paid attention to was that Kya is a lesbian: so yeah, do a sarcastic summary of the comics

Perhaps if Nick backed off and they had more of the original writers from Avatar this could've been much better. But Avatar is being made into a Live action series and if it does well maybe they could do the same for Korra and fix all the previous problems and erase season 2 from existence.

The reason why Korra doesn't initially use the avatar state in her first fight with Kuvira is that after what happened with Zaheer she is afraid of it because of how she lost control of herself in that fight. As she is suffering from ptsd she is, I think without fully realizing it, avoiding things that could trigger another episode.
No matter how many times I watch the franchise, I can't bring myself to like any of the shows over the other. It feels like each succeeds where the other fails and it is just perfect. Two of the best shows in animation I've ever seen till date
I’ll be honest, I’ve been calling her Mai (my) for a while just because I swore that I remembered her name being pronounced that way in the OG show lmaooo
Because that's how it would be pronounced in Japanese, at least if that was the romaji spelling (and the Fire Nation is clearly based on Japan). Otherwise it would be spelled Mei.
@@HaganeNoGijutsushi well no one cares what sounds right to you. The correct pronunciation is said explicitly in the show. End of story. No one cares what Japanese people would pronounce an english spelled word just because so aspects of the girl's fictional nation is based in some japanese culture, that doesnt dictate anything linguistically. The movie specifically changed pronunciation to seem "more asian" but the fact is that the way they're pronounced in the show is how they're pronounced and intended to be pronounced, and there is zero ambiguity there.
Kuvira this Season could have been better. If the Season was a bit longer, she could have been fleshed out more and her reasons be more of ideological battle for the future of the Earth Kingdom. She was a necessary antagonist for the season because no one else could do the job of restoring order to the broken Earth Kingdom. Also she pointed out some of the issues that led to the Earth Kingdom becoming weak, broken, and a joke. The Nazism was a cheap cop out to avoid discussing any of the actual plights that led to this disaster situation of the Earth Kingdom before Kuvira stepped in and the future of the kingdom was being given back to some of the same parties that caused/let it fall into disarray.
I don't know, with the tank-suits I can definitely see the *purpose* they were meant to serve from a writing perspective. they were a way for non-bender characters to feel on a more level playing field in fights without needing super-human martial arts skills. Like, a one-on-one fight between Zuko or some other bender and Sokka would have been boring since Sokka, as clever as he is, still would have been immediately whomped. But a one-on-one fight between Zuko or other bender and Sokka in a tank-suit, now we're talking something that would be more interesting to watch. I mean they fell far short of that goal, but I feel like the issue was with execution and not the idea itself.
I think it’s basically confirmed that mai is izumis mother the comic writer said she and zuko got back together and mai looks just like her also bolin and opal is the best relationship in the show bolin is mad underrated he learned to lava bend at 17 something only done by avatars and gazon before he’s a bad ass

floricel_112 I think zuko and Suki have a sort of Aang and toph friendship were there really close but it’s still platonic and also I think sokka and Suki were endgame for each other I don’t see them breaking up
I remember being so excited for this series when it was about to come out. When I was just s young kid I would catch episodes of Last Airbender and enjoy it, but I didn't really follow the series all the way through (at least not on purpose lol, there were so many reruns), so I was very excited for a chance to actually follow the story this time with Korra. Unfortunately, I really didn't find any enthusiasm for the show when I started watching season 1 and never got through it. I just really didn't enjoy Korra. (Or Mako) as a character and I never got invested in the world of the show. But I DO remember how mind-blowing it was when the show wrapped up and I learned that it ended with Korra and Asami in a relationship. This was a whole new ball game, I felt, for fictional characters. I was in maybe 9th grade at the time, and at that point I never could have imagined a same sex couple on TV, at least not in a "kid's" show. It really changed my view of what was possible and I think it opened up a lot of possibilities for more inclusive story lines and couples. So although the representation wasn't perfect and the show definitely wasn't perfect, I will always respect the Legend of Korra for taking that first huge step for children's media. I feel like it was really the beginning of LGBTQA+ representation on big network channels. :)

I hated season 2 and the ending of the series. Wished they kissed.
I just hate the series I feel it very inferior to the original, and I wish that it is deleted from existence because it is just sh*t
Zuko and Mai got back together 3 years after their post-series breakup (according to the guy who wrote Smoke & Shadow; he confirmed it at an Emerald City Comic Con panel), and Azumi's name means "fountain." (As in, the fact that the cornerstone of their relationship is falling into a fountain) So, yes - Mai's her Mom.
COMICS! COMICS! COMICS! COMICS! Please do a sarcastic summary on the comics.
Yeah! 🤩
What is up Adora
Hey, Adora
This is a one parter? YESS! I DON'T HAVE TO WAIT ONE MORE WEEK. SEASON 4!
All of season 4's Earth Nazis and Magic Gundams are worth the return of Rock Queen Toph.
YOU SHALL REFER TO HER BY HER PROPER TITLE AS MELON LORD!!
I'm not to jazzed about TLoK, I probably like it a bit more than the average Avatar fan. That being said I LOVE season 4! From Korra's character development, to her slight redesign, I think it's great! I think it's totally logical for the Avatar universe to try to harness spiritual energy, but I just don't believe that they'd go from "I think we might be able to harness this power." to " we're making mech suits!"
Also MAI LEFT ZUKO IN THE COMICS??? I was thinking through that whole show that that was Mai's kid!
And yes, I'd love to hear about the comics! No one really talks about them.
Yeah they break up in the comics, but leave it open ended, show that they still have feelings together, and imply a possible future romance between them again
"Every Avatar series ends on a kiss!

Please do a Sarcastic Summary of the comics.
Why do I feel like that first four minutes actually happened.
This has got to be the most underwhelming finale in LoK. Seriously, Amon and Zaheer had much better confrontation with Korra than a freaking giant robot who fires laser canons
I gotta agree even though Amon just kinda pussied out as soon as korra blew some wind at him lol
Ryan Davidson how? he lost his followers he basically lost everything
Shrek is the best franchise and it tops anything. Yeah when they found out he was a water bender they were pissed but nothing was really stopping him from blood bending any of them considering he’s a physic god, but he just ran away
Shrek is the best franchise and it tops anything. The guy was able to blood bend at a whim. The hell did he need followers for, he could just go round taking everyone’s bending on his own
Have a nice day Dudes he needs his publicity he cant round up benders as easily or make bending illegal without them
Positive representation that only happened because the network would rather have women be lesbians THAN SINGLE.

no, anything about korra is great lol
Yeah the mech is really where it lost me. I do also wish they did korrasami justice
I would like you to do a summary of the comics, they are rather good
Yes do the comics! I just finished the turf wars ones and have started the second one. I love watching your videos!!
Agreed. Would love to see a breakdown of the comics. Avatar ones too, if possible.
I like the Avatar comics ok. With the exception of The Search I don't think they're a must read but for what they are they're fine. Only one I think is bad-ish is Smoke and Shadow because I hate the sort of Love triangle they do and honestly I don't think Zuko and Mai are good for each other. Korra comics are kinda on the same level but unlike Avatar I don't care about the characters so I can't get invested, but it was nice to see Korrasami as a couple even if it was poorly set in the show.
@@lonebattledroid4474
I feel about the same the Avatar comics have always just kind of bored me like it's fun to see these characters I grew up with again but eh it's just off
Not a fan of the korra comics tbh.

"OOOHGAA BOOOOOGAA BOOOOGGGAAAA!"
the best part of these summaries. I swear 2 of my rewatches of the series have been so i could watch this video for that one part
Honestly, considering most action cartoons get cut short and never even get to finish airing on the network, Legend of Korra did fine in the end. Not perfect, but I wish more of my favorite cartoons got mistreated like that.
Ikr so many questions is so frustrating
They took it from Zaofu's domes. Remember that she ordered to tore them?
They mine around 140 tonnes of platinum each year...
@@Ash-pe7kx They mine about 140 tonnes of material that could contain platinum each year. The actual platinum produced from that is much less.
People who can bend flames, water, earth and air are so rare they could probably fit inside a small room
Well great thing this isn’t our world so we can’t apply real life facts can we?
I overall like lok(except season 2), but it was really held back by meddling behind the scenes.
Completely agree, although if we're getting technical about it, she had every reason, but not the right.
Um no, Kuvira is shown form the get go to be a pro authoritarian,
imposing law and order is one thing, but she literally then uses that as a means to expand her power, intimidation as well as forces people to join her and follow her will, ethnically cleanse the country, etc.
She literally threatens and intimidate multiple states to rejoin her neo earth kingdom empire
where she wants to bring back all territories to earth kingdom even capital city
so we have a campaign of reunification of lost land and or territory based on ethnic presence and “ancestral” sovereignty
the same excuse hitler used to Annex Czechoslovakia, Ukraine, Austria etc.
She literally tells many states if you don’t join me i will take you over anyway but we’ll just leave a higher body count.
also hitler refused to use poison gas in WWII because of his experience with it in world war I as a soldier
the fact he chose to do that does not excuse and or matter to his overall rule of evil and oppression.
Nor does her refusal to use mind control especially when she can literally choke and or threaten her enemies and subordinates into subjugation or else be arrested and or killed.
This is why I don't bother with the comics, they serve as cannon muddling side option and usually are used to retcon things all the time.
"Spread his cheeks for Kuvira"

It's not a mess. It's pretty rocky compared to atla but it still manages to be a well-written story with great animation, character development and worldbuilding.
That’s exactly why its a beautiful mess
Perhaps if Nick backed off and they had more of the original writers from Avatar this could've been much better. I do feel bad for the show because it already had high expectations and its production process was awful. But Avatar is being made into a Live action series and if it does well maybe they could do the same for Korra and fix all the previous problems and erase season 2 from existence.
@@lonebattledroid4474 Book 2 doesn't need to be erased. It just needs some polishing. In fact, it would benefit the series greatly if each season had 15 episodes instead of 12.

26:04 what an obscure reference... I love ya for it
The reason why Korra doesn't initially use the avatar state in her first fight with Kuvira is that after what happened with Zaheer she is afraid of it because of how she lost control of herself in that fight. As she is suffering from ptsd she is, I think without fully realizing it, avoiding things that could trigger another episode.
The comics? I say go for it. Going to be hilarious.

That beginning bit was incredible hahahaha. Your sarcastic summaries are always top form but that was a whole nother level!
Why do people pronounce Mai as "my???" Its CLEARLY pronounced MAY in the show. This is Ong level.
@@HaganeNoGijutsushi yet you never read it in the show, it is only spoken. Should we pronounce Aang as Ong too?
@@SnakeWasRight no, because actually the pronounciation of Aang sounds right to me?
@@HaganeNoGijutsushi well no one cares what sounds right to you. The correct pronunciation is said explicitly in the show. End of story.
No one cares what Japanese people would pronounce an english spelled word just because so aspects of the girl's fictional nation is based in some japanese culture, that doesnt dictate anything linguistically.
The movie specifically changed pronunciation to seem "more asian" but the fact is that the way they're pronounced in the show is how they're pronounced and intended to be pronounced, and there is zero ambiguity there.
"The Woods of Endor, Yoda is..." . . . Woods of Dagobah . . .
Hell yeah I’m down for a sarcastic summary of the comics
I gotta say, if that intro comedy sketch is accurate, I have a lot more sympathy and less distaste for Korra.
Also that sketch was HILARIOUS
I think it’s basically confirmed that mai is izumis mother the comic writer said she and zuko got back together and mai looks just like her also bolin and opal is the best relationship in the show bolin is mad underrated he learned to lava bend at 17 something only done by avatars and gazon before he’s a bad ass
I really hope that's the case, because the smoke and shadows comic gave me some not pretty vibes between Zuko and Suki, and I DO NOT want to see Sokka lose another girlfriend....whatever happened to Suki during Korra. Or at least pre Korra
floricel_112 I think zuko and Suki have a sort of Aang and toph friendship were there really close but it’s still platonic and also I think sokka and Suki were endgame for each other I don’t see them breaking up
"A lonely bath with her ex-wife"
Uuuuhhh. I know what you mean... but...
Oh my god YES hit the comics!
Yup, I'd watch a sarcastic summary of those comics.
YEEESSS A SARCASTIC SUMMARY OF THE COMICS WOULD BE AWESOME!!!
You can do Sarcastci Summaries of anything in the Avatar world and I will love it. So Korra comics... Yes please. But also please consider... the original series and its comics.
"But Mr. Sketchy himself is too busy playing with some vines that he'll use to create some jump-the-shark-level technology..."
The way you said that line was golden.

This opening addresses the root of all of Korra's problems.
