Check how much fuel pressure there is when u crank it. It should be 50+. If not, then run a wire from the pump to a fuse that only powers when key is in the on position. Once you do that, turn the key in the on position, wait a few seconds ( you’ll hear the pump) then start it.

Check Fuel pump and filter. The check valve in the pump can be going bad and causing you to have a fuel pressure drop while cranking. Especially since tapping the gas starts it quicker
Your start issue is probably a cold start enrichment. Probably needs more fuel i would guess. Id take a log of a cold start, and send it to tuner and have them take a look!
When doing a compression test, are you keeping the throttle open? Keeping the throttle open will bring in more air and give you higher readings. I usually use a long screwdriver to keep the throttle blade open when I test. Might not be the best tool but it works and won’t get sucked in.

I compression tested my 4b11 after I overrevved with the same harbor freight gauge and all my cylinders read 90-95psi. The cheap gauges definitely read lower.
Yeah I have an innacurate gauge too. The problem with them is the schrader valve is in the hand piece and not in the fitting that screws into the sparkplug which means there is more volume in the system (cylinder plus the hose). You really only want to know the compression in the cylinder only. I got 130psi across all cylinders in my 4G63 with a crappy compression tester which isn't great.

try testing the compression after getting the car up to operating temp, I believe you also need to let the throttle body open up like holding it open or putting something in it to hold it open
I think you should clean the throttle body, i had the exact same issue on start ups, especially on hot start the car won’t start unless i press the pedal but after cleaning everything was good,( im not sure if that’s the case on your tho)
you would just need new piston rings, gapped right for the proper amount of boost your running, also if its got low compression in one cylinder that would = new rings, but you could also tell cause there would be blow-by but will see when you get the good compression tester

The cars you build and sell, you should really put your Vausin logo on them, like etched glass, or maybe have a local interior guy or gal stitching car seats with logo. Kinda like Tommykaira, Tom's, Millen. That way you establish your brand better.

My evo 8 does the same thing actually, it a pain in the ass to start but if i do open throttle (clear flood mode) it starts immediately first turn. Basically turn the ignition on, right after i hear the pump come on i press the pedal down, turn the key and release the pedal right as it starts.
you should really sort out the Evo, out front first .. either for Track Day or just Sell It ...... but maybe, you can buy a Skyline, Supra or Rx7 .. something JDM.

A Golf 4 R32 would be interesting and different to watch. Everyone has done JZ, K-Series, LS/Coyote, SR, RB, 4G6,EJ etc but not a lot have done VR5/6

Im guessing your check valve in your fuel pump is weak and is letting fuel drain back into the tank causing the starting issues
