Thank you so much. I inherited my Dad's watch and when it died I was devastated. Silly, but my Dad's watch was an iconic part of him. I confidently went to change the battery, ran up against the enigmatic latches and I was completely baffled. You had clear precise instructions and timely cautions to ensure viewers could accurately follow your expert demonstration.
THANK YOU! You gave me back a piece of my Dad

I had two dead Ironmans. Checked the local battery shop and they wanted 23 bucks a piece to put the batteries in, sans the price of the battery. Thankfully I was smart enough to check TH-cam and I found your video. Like most, I could not figure out the freaking latches. Thanks for a great video!

on the other hand you weren’t smart enough to avoid buying a Timex Ironman watch. They just look like a cheap attempt to imitate g-shock and the digits are too vertically elongated. Plus why on earth would they add these annoying additional steps to remove the watch band.

@@StopFear on the 3rd hand, you're not smart enough to realize that everyone their own taste; personal perferences for everyting. including watches. the Ironman watches are nostalic pieces for me. i have the model that's used in the video plus another one. is there anything else you would like to tell us to like just becuase YOU like it better?

Agreed! What’s bugging me now is trying to find a replacement for the rubber gasket. I’ve measure the old one with calipers and probably spent $50 on various sizes hoping I could share it with folks. Haven’t found the correct one yet. Ha!

Many thanks from Brazil!! I've had this watch for almost ten years now, and I simply love it. I've had to change its battery only once, but took it to a store. This time it happened during the weekend, and I just cannot function without it. Pretty easy to find the battery and five minutes later I've had it replaced. Thank you so very much!! Great video! I made the mistake of trying to replace the battery myself, BEFORE watching this video, and taking apart the whole module to get the battery out. This video shows the proper way to do it! I got the whole thing back together again, and it works great, but advise others to watch the video if you don't know what you are doing!

Thanks for the endorsement! I've take this thing apart completely a few times as well, but I don't recommend it. There are delicate parts that can easily be broken, for example, the small metal tab under the Start/Split button. Thanks again!

Thank you for this. I was about to go to a watchshop for my battery change when I found my old kit of tiny screwdrivers, but then I had no idea how exactly the latch system worked! Love the Ironman watches. They take a beating and work forever. I saw one of these models at Walmart marked down to $2, new, in box, because it had a fading display (push the Indiglo button and the display would disappear for a few seconds). So I bought it, watched your video and learned about the pin to unlatch the battery holder (Thanks! My other Ironman is older and has a completely different holder that doesn't need a pin to release it). Now I have another completely working one that I can wear with my "dress flannels".

Thank you for a clear straightforward tutorial. The tough part was getting the clip holding the battery to release. I still don’t understand how the mechanism works; but I managed to get it free and then reclip it more or less by accident, or at least trial and error. The watch is reset and running smoothly, and I hope still waterproof. The fix requires some patience and is about at the limits of my eyesight, even with cheaters. The tiny screws are also at the limit of handling with my mitts. I actually thought of asking my wife with her delicate hands to take over for the screws.

Thank you Rich, your video was very helpful. It was your suggestion to remove the piece of paper covering the battery that helped me realise the battery clamp on my Ironman watch was different. It was actually held in place by a tiny screw on one side, which once released allowed the clamp to hinge open. So satisfying to be able to do these tiny jobs. Cheers!

Hope you're not tired of getting comments on this video but I'm another who has just been helped by your video. Fortunately I watched this before trying to change the battery. The "latch catch" would likely have lead to me doing some damage if I'd tried to do that without seeing you do it first.

TY!! That "latch" set-up is the least obvious things I've ever seen from Timex. The label that they put over the latch body completely hides what should be easy to see. Sheeesh!

My T5K606 did not work at all after replacing the battery.
Turns out I had to follow the instructions on the battery clamp sticker: short these two pads to reset the watch. Once I shorted them with a screwdriver, the watch came to life.
The video helped because my sticker was worn off and unreadable. Thanks!

A definite thanks for the video you make it look very do able explaining all the steps in the details you explain i read thru thei instruction booklet and the Website Timex makes it appear to be way more complicated than it really is and i as a DIYer thought to myself it’s just a battery and resetting a digital watch how damn hard can that be ? My Father did everything himself utilizing Repair Manuals and Schematics , once i watched and helped him drop the Automatic transmission out of a Volvo StationWagon and we opened it up , adjusted the bands and reinstalled it in the car so he could drive it to work the following morning ! that Car was still going strong 25 years later !

Great story! Thanks for sharing that. My Dad was an electrical engineer and major DIYer. He built our first color TV (had a remote) in the 70’s from a Heath kit… because he could. Ha! He took classes at a local tech school in his free time to learn about small engine and lawn mower repair. For everything else he read books. I still have his basic plumbing book which was published by Reader’s Digest. Now we have TH-cam and it’s amazing what you can learn.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Nice job! Dropping the screws can definitely be an issue. Before I started changing the batteries myself I’d take my Ironman Classic to a jeweler. One day the jeweler was chatting with me while changing the battery and dropped a screw on the floor. He couldn’t find it so he replaced it with the wrong size screw... which eventually fell out. He also removed the gasket and never replaced it. So... to make a long story short, that’s why I started changing batteries myself. Ha!
