Thanks for all the tips. Very helpful. I recently used the voucher hack, that I wish i knew about months ago, and will be using my earlybird checkin asap.
Let's contrast two ways to book Southwest flights using points from Chase. Method 1 is to transfer points to Southwest and book a flight with points. On the particular flight I'm looking at, cost is 29k points. Method 2 is to use the Chase Travel portal and book a Southwest flight and pay with points. Since I have a Chase Sapphire Reserve, each point is worth 1.5 cents on the portal, so the same SW flight is 27k points. What are the pros and cons of booking through the Chase portal vs. booking directly with Southwest using points? In both cases I will later add a free companion to the itinerary using my Southwest companion pass.
Hi Rich. The main disadvantage of booking via Chase Travel vs. transferring to SW and booking that way -- is that if you want to change your flight, or your flight drops in price...the booking via Chase Travel is harder to change. You can change it but if you need to cancel, my understanding is that you only get a flight credit that's good for a year and has to be used all at once. Whereas if you cancel a flight made with SW points, you just get those points back into your account. Or if the flight drops in price and you rebook, it's easy to get a partial refund.
@@katiestraveltricks THANK YOU! I've asked that question a few places and you're the first one to give a really great answer. I have enjoyed the ability to change my points bookings on Southwest and take advantage of sales or changes of plans. Thanks for the helpful reply.
You're the Southwest guru.
