    Hi Mark! Just one corrección. Madrid si 500 years ole as a capital (first was Toledo) but Madrid was founded in the IX Century. So it has over 1.100 years. Nice to meet you and best regards!

    • @robert111k

      Miguel Ferrer, lo de Toledo capital de España es un mito. Fue la capital del Reino Visigodo de Toledo y, desde entonces, la sede primada de la iglesia católica, pero desde que existe España sólo ha habido dos capitales: Valladolid (cinco años) y Madrid.

    • @dbzgt1987
      @dbzgt1987 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robert111k Lisboa (Olissipo) ha sido una ciudad desde Julius César cuando Portugal no existia.
      Por supuesto existirá pueblos mas antiguos por Hispania/Iberia.

    • @robert111k
      @robert111k 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dbzgt1987 de hecho Lisboa es más antigua que Roma, o sea, que es de unos cuantos cientos de años antes de nacer Julio César. Pero no entiendo muy bien a qué viene el dato en esta conversación. De lo que se trataba aquí era de dejar claro que Toledo fue la capital del Reino Visigodo de Toledo (que ocupaba toda la Hispania romana, es decir, toda la península), pero nunca fue la capital de Castilla. De hecho Castilla no tuvo capital. El rey establecía la corte donde convenía o le apetecía y las Cortes (parlamento) se celebraban en distintas ciudades dependiendo de las conveniencias (las primeras que tuvieron lugar en Madrid, en lo que hoy es el convento de las Descalzas Reales, al que recomiendo una visita, fueron en 1340).
      Si consideramos que España existe como estado, siquiera sea por la unión personal de reinos y la finalización de la Reconquista, desde 1492, las únicas capitales que ha tenido, en el sentido de sedes permanentes de la corte y de las principales instituciones de gobierno, son Madrid, desde 1561 hasta la actualidad, y Valladolid, que fue capital por un corto periodo: de 1601 a 1606, creo recordar.

    • @dbzgt1987
      @dbzgt1987 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robert111k si,lo entiendo. Pero yo lo dice porque en esa era Olissipo estaria en España y mas tarde seria capital por 1143 de un novo reino y Portugal se situa en Hispania/Iberia.
      Solo eso, referir la antiguidad de otra capital de la peninsula.
      No queria ofender, solo queria compartilhar un momento mas de história ibérica.

      Ok, it was only the capital of the Visigothic Kingdom of Spania; That is how they called it then in their documents and San Gregorio de Tour in his correspondence to the kings of Toledo he calls them kings of Spania.
      Of course, for some, Spania, Hispania, Espanha or Spain is not España, firstly because they do not have the letter ñ, and secondly because they confuse Spain with the unified state and it is not the same.
      Spain is Spain and may or may not be unified.
      And Castile did not exist when the Visigoths, that is why it was not their capital, but it was the capital of the territory that was later called Castile. Spain is before Cadtilla or any medieval kingdom that arose later in Spain, Hispania, Spania or Iberia, which are all the same.
      Hispania is the Roman name for the Peninsula and that name has later evolved into proto-Romance and Romance languages such as Spania, Espanha (Galician and Portuguese), Espanya (Catalan and Valencian) and España (Castilian). Iberia is the Greek name for the Peninsula.
      Prior to the 17th century, when any peninsular referred to Spain, they referred to the Peninsula as a geographical location and that is why everyone considered themselves Spanish.
      After the Independence of Portugal, the term Spain was applied to only a part of the Peninsula, which appropriated that name, and the Portuguese rejected the term, for which reason the Peninsula began to be called exclusively Iberia and the name of Spain was used only for its eastern part with a Castilian predominance. It is the same thing that happens today with some Catalans, Galicians or Basques, who reject being Spanish because of their rejection of Castilian dominance, although geographically they are, since the entire Peninsula is Spain, because that is its Roman name.
      Vale, solo fue capital del Reino visigodo de Spania; asi la llamaban entonces en sus documentos y San Gregorio de Tour en su correspondencia a los reyes de Toledo los denomina reyes de Spania.
      Claro que, para algunos, Spania, Hispania, Espanha o Spain no es España, primero porque no llevan la letra ñ, y segudo porque cofunden España con Estado Uificado y no es lo mismo.
      España es España y puede estar unificada o no.
      Y Castilla no existia cuando los Visigodos, por eso no fue su capital, pero si fue capital del territorio que despues se llamo Castilla. España es antetior a Castilla o a cualquier reino medieval de los que despues surgieron en España, Hispania, Spania o Iberia, que todas son lo mismo.
      Hispania es el nombre romano de la Peninsula y ese nombre luego ha evolucionado en lenguas protomances y romances como Spania, Espanha ( Gallego y portugues), Espanya ( Catalan y valenciano) y España ( Castellano). Iberia es el nombre griego de la Peninsula. Anteriormente al Siglo XVII cuando cualquier peninsular se referia a España, hacia referencia a la Peninsula como lugar geografico y por eso todos se consideraban españoles.
      A partir de la Independencia de Portugal, se aplico el termino España a solo una parte de la Peninsula, que se apropio de ese nombre, y los portugueses rechazaron el termino, por lo que empezo a llamarse a la Peninsula exclusivamente Iberia y el nombre de España se utilizo solo para su parte oriental con predominio castellano. Es lo mismo que ocurre hoy en dia con algunos catalanes, gallegos o vascos, que por rechazo al predominio castellano rechazan ser españoles, aunque geograficamente lo son, pues toda la Peninsula es España, porque ese es su nombre romano

    What I definitely would add is to go to a soccer match, as some of the best clubs in the world right now are from Madrid, Real and Atletico.
    Moreover that every week on some days sights are open for free in the last hours until they close. This is especially recommendable for the Palacio Real, because otherwise it costs 10€ and it is rather small and you can walk through in 30min. What I did was to go there at 5 because at 4 when the free time started many tourists are there, but at 5 there was no queue outside. Inside then have been more tourists, but therefore it was for free. There are frescos from Tiepolo, which are definitely worth to visit but the rest is rather boring.
    Interesting also is the church San Antonio de la Florida which is not far from the Palacio Real, where you can see a big fresco from Goya (also for free).
    Be aware that on some days (Mon or Tue) the big museums are closed and that the opening hours differ between summer and winter (starting 1. Nov). This is especially relevant for day trips to the small towns.

      You're right.
      Spanish football teams have been dominating European and world football for many many years now.
      Real Madrid in particular has always been the most successful club in Europe since the 1950s.
      Since they won those five European cups in a row.

      I know this is old but for someone reading, I think Toledo deserves you stay there. There is just so much to see especially if you like El Greco like I do. . Just so you can relax and not be torn to pieces because Toledo has no metro or taxi stops and it’s on a huge hill. I also stayed in Segovia but if you only care about the castle and the aqueduct I guess it’s ok to take a day trip. Bus from Toledo to Madrid was 7E.

    • @WDH59510
      @WDH59510 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Bernabeu tour is self-guided, you make your own way around and it's a fascinating visit even if you're not a football / soccer fan. Take a well-stocked wallet if your kid is a football / soccer fan ! Getting tickets for matches can be trickier and pricey, if you get a ticket be sure to eat before you go as the catering in the stadium isn't great. And you'd be VERY lucky to get a ticket for 'El Clasico' (the match v Barcelona).
      Pickpockets - my experience is that they are less numerous than in Barcelona, which doesn't mean they don't exist, they do. Be careful if you're taking luggage onto the Metro as you might attract a pickpocket. Better to get a taxi.
      Don't get too close to 'Guernica' at the Reina Sofia. I did and set off the alarm !! And got some dark looks from the security staff ...

    Great video, but you have to see a soccer/football match while in Madrid, even if you don't know anything about the sport, especially right now when 2 of the best 5 teams in the world play in Madrid. For art lovers I would also suggest Sorolla museum and CaixaForum. I also enjoyed Mercado San Miguel, a Flamenco show (avoid the expensive tourist traps) and if one can speak or at least understand Spanish, a show at one of the theatres on the Gran Via, which is considered as Spain's Broadway. I agree though, you could have easily made a top 20 video for Madrid.
