Am I having flashbacks to oil painting class in my fine arts degree where I had to just wear my dad's overalls for *mechanic work* and still managed to get paint all over my clothes? Yes, yes I am.

oh my god yes. first ceiling i did, i foolishly thought 'oh my glasses will protect me'- WRONG. ruined my glasses *and* got paint in my eyes :') wear goggles folks!
The thing I appreciate about Great British Sewing Bee is how consistent their judging criteria are. I understand it isn’t your cup of tea, but by being that specific, I think they really show the *work* that goes into high level sewing. I don’t usually care in my own sewing, but I do appreciate seeing people who are that skilled doing incredible work.
I find the standards are more looking for professional work, just like on GBBO. Which means pattern matching and fabric waste, but later seasons are getting better. Esme Young is much more avont guard and looks for that in the designs and Patrick discusses The impact of the garment industry a lot. They start to reuse their scraps, and recycle a lot more things, not just normal fabric, in the refashioning challenges.
Behold the power of the sleeve gusset! 😂 Joys of halfway living in the historical costuming/historybounding sections of CraftTube, gussets on sleeves are a familiar sight and it was lovely to see the reinvention. Also, absolutely love the purse pockets *forever*!
Yessss, I love gussets because they make sleeves stupid easy. We love the historical rectangle + triangle method. Was super delighted to see her go that route.
I love your confidence in your blooper choice! Everybodys' body makes noises so no reason to not find some humor in the situation & you know we will find it hilarious.
Wow! No pattern and it turned out beautifully! Hats off to you … I am sewing a similar design as special adaptive pyjamas for my mother who has Alzheimer’s… and am modifying a pattern I bought, so when I see how well yours turned out I am duly impressed ! Btw…you are hilarious, keep smiling !
I use plastic dollar store shower caps for ceiling painting. Body parts that are exposed to paint are easier to scrub and get clean if you apply hand or body lotion before painting. Sad song is a Thousand Years by Christina Perri. It was on the radio a ton when i lost my heart dog. Even thinking of the song is enough to bring me to tears.
They always make me giggle. And I appreciate that the comments aren't at the expense of accurate captioning, they usually enhance the accuracy. And when its randomly about knight penguins, that goes over the theme music, so if you aren't experiencing the sound you're still not missing anything. Its really well done!
I like watching you find your way through sewing. I am the other type of sewist who makes and uses patterns, who obsesses over details and finds immense pleasure in precision. To each their own because there is no wrong way to enjoy sewing. 😀
I'm a 'the patterns must align' person, and I really admire people who can just cut and sew without worrying about the plaid perfectly matching along a curved seam cuz I ain't that lady.
If you like bake off and hate the lack of creativity in sewing bee you will love the great pottery throw down - a lot of creativity and a judge that always cries it’s so cute
These are definitely the cutest painting overalls ever! I never minded the focus on technical skill on the Sewing Bee because it aligns more with my own sewing aspirations. What really started annoying me and what got worse with every season is the ridiculous time limits. Home sewing should not resemble sweatshop methods. I remember a child’s party dress with like 26 pieces in something crazy like 3.5 hours. I can’t even cut that out in that time! That really started sucking the fun out for me.
I SO agree with you! It's becoming less about sewing well, and more about sewing fast. It gives a completely unrealistic idea of how long normal sewists take to make garments.
And about the creativity thing, I havent seen Sewing Bee in particular but on other shows theyre either judging things for being too accessible, which makes me angry because poor/regular folks deserve nice clothes too. Or theyre like, we asked you to be creative with clothing, no not that creative! Like. What are you asking for make up your mind.
Man, this makes me miss my flightsuit... To steal a couple ideas for it - check out the US Air Force flightsuit. The pockets along the calves were AMAZING - I kept my wallet and cover (hat) in one, a paperback in the other. The waist tape was basically a velcro belt so you could tighten it as much as you want or loosen it if you wanted. The breast pockets were zipped, so keys went in there. There is a great pocket on the sleeve to hold a couple pens and little stuff. Now I think I want to make myself a coverall flightsuit. Out of the most obnoxiously NOT military issue fun canvas I can find. 😂
This is so cute! I've learn that if I hand baste the zipper in and then sew it, it will lay flat! They used to be the bane of my existence but when I learned this it has been all right. Obviously takes a but longer but being able to skip the pins or accidentally pulling the fabric when sewing, has helped a lot! ❤
your 'just try it!' vibes are so infectious, i always leave your videos feeling like YEAH LETS DO IT! i really appreciate the energetic kick in the pants it gives to the 'cant do it unless perfect' funk that my brain gets into. its not that i dont appreciate the super technical folks, they are so valuable! and im sure the sewing bee is interesting for folks who like the technical stuff, its neat to see the nitty gritty. but more often what i enjoy and vibe with is the type of energy of your channel, rachel maksy, stephanie canada and her Chaos Sewing. thats the stuff that makes me really feel inspired, like i can get past the quicksand of perfectionism and just wing it for the fun of it. good luck on your house projects! ive got several rooms to be painted that im going to tackle this summer once timelines fall into place, and my arms are already crying in advance :') your overalls turned out SO cute! i hope they bring all the good luck to your painting. and hmmm sadness songs, a lot of sleeping at last music gives me that melancholic, deeply-sad-but-hopeful vibe? especially the engram series and 'wave after wave'/the series of songs related to 'Mother'. as for joyful stuff, ive been really loving Dancing My Way by Wyn Starks. i cant *not* move when its on!
Your procreate drawings are honestly very good at explaining your design process! When sketches get too caught up in being photorealistic and pretty they lose a lot of the clarity, but your clear & steady lines are very helpful!
I watched your "I regret posting shorts" video yesterday and decided to see what your other content is like. This video converted me to your core audience - I too know how to sew many things and therefore will sew something else entirely and have to figure out how to do that. Also the color!! The joyful pockets!! I love it
i hated zippers until i learned the trick to them, for me, was to hand baste the zipper opening closed, then install the zipper. you can line up all the things while basting, and make sure your flaps are close enough to look good, and nothing will move while you sew it.
I think the time limits on Sewing Bee are unrealistic, but it has taught me a lot about how garments are constructed and not sure I would have attempted making a shirt for my God-son if I hadn't seen how one was put together on the show. You have definitely inspired me to try more though. I currently have a circle skirt cut out, and material for a sweatshirt dress. x
"Follow You Down" by the Gin Blossoms, specifically the intro, forces me to feel joy involuntarily. Violently. Even when genuinely unwelcome. highly recommend
It's technically Worse to Worst, but I've seen/heard all 4 variations. Nicole Rudolph's next video is on men's pockets. It's ridiculously hilarious. I live in San Francisco and the rain we've been getting is the definition of torrential. I'm adding a hood to a coat I have. I have to piece the material, but I'm going to get a hood. This weather is insane. I like that you made the hood first and then figured out how to shimmy the extra.
I used to only play the Bee Gees in my car, they calmed me down and kept me from driving with my finger out the window. If I have to meet a deadline, I play Blake Shelton. His music keeps me focused. If I need to think without being distracted by the music, I play Maroon 5.
"driving with my finger out the window", gods that's a mood... I'm generally screaming at traffic becaise drivers are soooo stupid... My undoing will be yelling, "Sorry about your !" after hummers, overly shiny large pickup trucks, and unnecessarily loud exhaust systems.
It's so damn cute, it's too good for painting!!! I would have left it with wide legs and rocked it 50's glam style! GBSB definitely gets better with Esme Young and it does get more creative overall; some seasons more than most (I think season 9 was the most wacky and fun). Starting at season 5 Esme and Patrick loosen up and there's more leeway for creativity!
I agree, I think there's a different vibe in the Joe Lycett and Sara Pascoe eras as well, the judges seem a bit more relaxed in the later series', but there is always an emphasis on technical skills and accomplishments because it is a competition after all
I’d wear it even if I wasn’t getting dirty in some way. In a slightly different fabric, an invisible zipper & no ankle cuffs, it’d make a beautiful outfit for work, parties/events (not that I ever get invited to either) a date, going on random errands or, honestly, just lounging around the house. Now I just need someone to teach me how to sew, lol! Thanks for keeping my brain entertained & thinking!!
My current happy song is Paralyzer by Finger Eleven. I've loved that song simce the first time I heard it😂 Also those are super cute! I don't think I'd paint in them cause they came out so well😂
I'm with you. Pants are bamboozling to me. I am impressed you jumped into doing a coverall and they turned out so cute! On another note, my cathartic cry is Song of Woman with Lzzy Hale and The Hu. Awesome rock song that hits different now that I'm a mother. Current happy song is Best Day of My Life by American Authors. I'm cycling back through old high school playlists at the moment.
I'm so glad I'm watching this after seeing your Instagram post. So excited to see how you did all those pockets! It's "worse comes to worst" and makes perfect sense. When something has gone bad, you can still possibly fix it (worse) but if it gets worst..... You might be screwed.
"be a little windsock in them" honestly a good litmus test for if a thing is comfy or not! Raglan style sleeves are supposed to be more forgiving in terms of fit flexibility (which also makes them great for layering over other things) and I would assume this means they'd give you a good range of arm motion. I am not super keen on drafting raglan sleeves however.
I really liked the cherry terry when you showed it before, this should be a fun project. UH, you do realize that if the top was as loose as the bottom...you could have left the zipper out all together, ? ! Would be a great beach coverup.
I agree that this coverall is way too cute to ruin with paint. I would be a nice swim suit cover up in the evening. Really really love the fabric color and pattern. Thanks for the cute, joyful, uplifting video. It made my day as I sit here post surgery of a total reverse shoulder replacement. It made not being able to work on any crafty project more bearable.
These are actually the cutest coveralls I've ever seen! I thought the cherries on the back were intentional. I'm the crazy person who will rip out a zipper as many times as necessary to make a seam line up because I like things to be perfect. I don't hold others to the same standard because I KNOW it's pedantic. When I put elastic in a channel like the ankle on your coveralls, I like to use a separate piece of fabric for the channel. I found that this is a high-friction area and, over time, the fabric will wear out. If it's a separate piece, it's easier to replace. It might not make much difference on an ankle; I've never tried it. I make a lot of pajama pants and that's how I do the waistbands.
I love that piece of material over all the last weeks haul. To make the jump suit was a wonderful choice INMO. I talk to myself like you do. I laughed all the way through. love the final product, yes, I would make more also.
thank you!!! the moodlifting yoy bursted trough the screen, the cosy fabric and perfect happy color and cherry theme, made me smile & making me want to make exactly this. Your video helped me instantaneously out of a very difficult mindspot after a challenging afternoon .. great to see you radiate again! last but not least: sharing your honest zipper frustration plus info is very helpfull. As a beginner sewer I dread it , but promised to help fix the falty zipper closing in my daughters feeding pillow.
I think the difference between coveralls and a onesie is what you wear underneath. So like, pjs or nothing? Onesie. Day clothes? Coveralls. Which I guess also makes them a "the difference is what you use them for" kind of thing
It's definitely "worse comes to worst", meaning if this goes bad or as bad as it can get... But yeah :) if a worse situation becomes a worst case situation... Kind of thing. Also doggo needs their own whole b roll video of just being a cute interference :) Your controlled chaos energy is exactly what I need today for working on my current project! I've been watching a lot of more structured patternworking vids with drafting things to be precise, so it's refreshing to see you just work directly on the fabric and be a reminder to us all that it's okay to just wing it sometimes. Kinda reminds me to just take a breath and relax because sometimes just making it work doesn't always need crazy precision ❤
If you look at bodices where the arm hole is very close under the armpit, like Indian Cholis, it’s amazing how much mobility one gets when fabric isn’t holding back. You either need very tight to the body and well fitted, or you need huge and loose which works really great if you have some stretch. Since this society doesn’t make custom garments, at least, if one does not have their own makers, space, or TH-cam channel, stretch and big sleeves are the current standard.
glad i'm not the only one who's *somehow* ended up covered in oil based paint and probably had to spend a LONG time scrubbing it off with turpentine 😬😅
I watched series 7, 8, 9 of sewing bee first, then started Series 1 thru 6. The later seasons are better but yes 100% to .... yeah I don't pattern match. It's nice to play in background for Britsh humor while sewing, drawing, or seam ripping but I never dedicated full attention to it. The KIDS episodes, I mostly ffwd to watch end products and to see who won.
I'd definitely recommend watching past season 4, it does get better. There is a list of things that make me go "Ahhhh!" about it, but I still find it a lot of fun to watch. If we had a Canadian one, I'd 100% enter lol
I love these! I am always so impressed at waht you do without a pattern!! Also the sewing bee does get better. The one judge changes and the series becomes a lot more fun and they start to focus more on being creative! I would say give it another try with a later season.
i've said it before and i'll say it again, your videos bring me so much joy!! i love your creativity and the way you simply shine through the screen!! also, i fully agree on the sewing bee comment: i like watching it but it makes me feel i'd be eliminated on the 1st week cos im a creative sewist but not a very technically precise one, and it's kinda sad because we come in so many different shapes and sizes!! anyway, great work as always :) thanks!
My husband and I are reverse. I think it’s because he shaves his head and I have longer curly hair. I wind up with just a few spots and he winds up with it everywhere. Thus, why I paint and he does the repairs😂
That's a great design, and it all came together beautifully! Forget painting in them; take them out on the town! My music for chores is mostly big band from the 20s through the 50s, maybe with some doo wop thrown in. Really pumps me up for the job!
I just bought a giant man's blue stripe shirt like the one I wore in art classes in college. Weirdness, I didn't realize that's what it was! I considered cutting it down for a blouse... turned upside down, men's buttons become women's buttons. Maybe it is just supposed to be an art smock😊
I really enjoyed the show Making It with Amy posher and nick offerman! It incudes different kinds of crafters and challenges to the creative variety is fun to watch!
Once while painting in my house I had a bucket of paint an a roller and a bucket of water and a mop to clean the drops from the floor and I put the mop straigt into the paint bucket... Story of my life...
Wow, I love that you drew a picture of the pattern and then cut it out and it worked (minus the sleeves with a slight alteration). I wish I could do that.
You did it!! Super duper cute! First time watcher, i like you! I like your style! I love your sewing style! So me! And I love your humor! I love your dog! Lol
turned out sooo cute!!the painting could be way fun. it would be amazing to do a mural or a Sashiko design for an accent!!! have fun!! LOVE FROM UTAH!!
According to Nicole Rudolph, men 100-150 years ago commonly enjoyed 20-30 pockets in their daily clothes. Totally not fair! That being said, my trousers have 12 pockets all on their own.
I don’t want to be sad by Simple Plan always cheers me up. Well all simple plans music does that. But especially that song. Also. In the 2nd season of sewing bee there is a girl who sews differently and threw their rulebook out the window. So definitely recommend watching the second season
A 'sewist' after my own heart. Exactly the same attitude to making stuff as me...although I have never dared draft my own pattern. (I have no compunctions about adjusting and cannibalising an existing paper pattern though.) I love this garment.
I didn't think I'd like the coveralls, but I was so curious to see how you'd construct them that I *had to* watch. And I love them! You're a super creative problem solver.... and I think you should make two more pairs so you can live in them. (I make a couple of new half-aprons every year to hold my phone & tools for whatever I'm working on. My kid steals at least one every year to wear in their art studio at college. It's like a cottage industry!)
Gotta love extra pockets. I am currently diying a flannel shirt into a cool band patch jacket, and you better believe im gonna add more pockets and maybe even a hood
as a musical theatre girly my go to happy songs are from Kinky Boots. 1) raise you up/just be 2) Land of Lola (this one is more for instilling confidence in myself but does it work. i strut to the beat and let the confidence overcome me😂)
for the pockets...could you add some sort of rigid stabilizer, maybe in the top fold, that will help keep heavier items from falling out but still stick out of the pockets? but still allow for stretch in the rest of the pockets for full stuff-ability?

I love a good grammar question! The answer is number 2. Things go from bad to worse to worst. 😊 So you could say that worst is worse than worse. 😂😂

I agree, I think there's a different vibe in the Joe Lycett and Sara Pascoe eras as well, the judges seem a bit more relaxed in the later series', but there is always an emphasis on technical skills and accomplishments because it is a competition after all
This is so real, it absolutely encompasses the entire creative process
I’d wear it even if I wasn’t getting dirty in some way. In a slightly different fabric, an invisible zipper & no ankle cuffs, it’d make a beautiful outfit for work, parties/events (not that I ever get invited to either) a date, going on random errands or, honestly, just lounging around the house. Now I just need someone to teach me how to sew, lol! Thanks for keeping my brain entertained & thinking!!
I think I would've added the red around the waist also. Love the vibrant yellow.
Bad becomes worse, and worse becomes the worst it can get. "If worse comes to worst". Keep being awesome.
My current happy song is Paralyzer by Finger Eleven. I've loved that song simce the first time I heard it😂
Also those are super cute!
Its a total Power Mom song!
I'm so glad I'm watching this after seeing your Instagram post. So excited to see how you did all those pockets!
It's "worse comes to worst" and makes perfect sense. When something has gone bad, you can still possibly fix it (worse) but if it gets worst..... You might be screwed.
"Are you weird, now?"
I felt that
The overplaying songs til they no longer effect you is what my Autistic son calls 'dopamine mining'.
That’s so accurate! I’m gonna use that term, thank him for me 😊
That is the perfect description omg
"be a little windsock in them" honestly a good litmus test for if a thing is comfy or not! Raglan style sleeves are supposed to be more forgiving in terms of fit flexibility (which also makes them great for layering over other things) and I would assume this means they'd give you a good range of arm motion. I am not super keen on drafting raglan sleeves however.
Your videos bring me so much joy, and this outfit is the cutest, I'd make 2 or 3 more just in case there's paint staining this one 😀
You inspired me to start sewing myself ❤ thank you.
Ahh, your videos always get me in the mood to start my own clothing crafting projects! There's something so inspiring in the way you work ❤
As someone who doesn't sew clothing I am just FLABBERGASTED that you just drafted a pattern on the fly and cut out everything all willynilly.. wow
also laughing because i left this comment just seconds before you said flabbergasted yourself 😂
That fabric is so cute! And the hooded onesie. Will it be cuter with paint spatters? Jackson Pollack to meet Mary Englebreit 🤷♀️
First time ever a sponsored advertisement has been exactly what I needed lol
Your video helped me instantaneously out of a very difficult mindspot after a challenging afternoon
.. great to see you radiate again!
last but not least: sharing your honest zipper frustration plus info is very helpfull.
Also doggo needs their own whole b roll video of just being a cute interference :)
Your controlled chaos energy is exactly what I need today for working on my current project!
Try the latest couple of series of Sewing Bee with Sarah presenting - there’s a much greater emphasis on design, eco-sewing etc
Are you watching in the United States? If so, how?
The red zipper with the red accents of the hood and sleeves was a great choice.
When I have a coat zipper and want to use it as a regular zipper, I cut it and sew it back together to make a regular one.
i've said it before and i'll say it again, your videos bring me so much joy!! i love your creativity and the way you simply shine through the screen!! also, i fully agree on the sewing bee comment: i like watching it but it makes me feel i'd be eliminated on the 1st week cos im a creative sewist but not a very technically precise one, and it's kinda sad because we come in so many different shapes and sizes!! anyway, great work as always :) thanks!
This must be some of the happiest coveralls I've ever seen! Thank you for sharing 🥰🍒🍒🍒
I have come to the conclusion that you, my dear, are my spirit animal! Keep up the amazing work! I'm living for it!
I am also a mucky painter. I end up with it everywhere and my husband has none, not sure how that happens!!
Love the coveralls, look very 50's ❤
My husband and I are reverse. I think it’s because he shaves his head and I have longer curly hair. I wind up with just a few spots and he winds up with it everywhere. Thus, why I paint and he does the repairs😂
That's a great design, and it all came together beautifully! Forget painting in them; take them out on the town!
My music for chores is mostly big band from the 20s through the 50s, maybe with some doo wop thrown in. Really pumps me up for the job!
I’m still shocked everyday that you don’t have a million subscribers. I get so excited to watch your videos!
Those are so rediculous and I LOVE them! Also, I totally agree with you about Sewing Bee.
the final product montages you do at the end are my new favorite thing
A 'sewist' after my own heart. Exactly the same attitude to making stuff as me...although I have never dared draft my own pattern. (I have no compunctions about adjusting and cannibalising an existing paper pattern though.) I love this garment.
Those are so cute. Well done. So proud of you for taking on the zippers.
That's why we watch you. A creative approach.
I absolutely love the red inside the hood and of course ALL the pockets ❤
Dang it, i was just about to paint my living room after procrastinating and watching your video... Now i have to make coveralls first 😅
as a musical theatre girly my go to happy songs are from Kinky Boots. 1) raise you up/just be 2) Land of Lola (this one is more for instilling confidence in myself but does it work. i strut to the beat and let the confidence overcome me😂)
Ermagherd, that is adorable! And so many pockets. 😍
that fabric is SO GOOD! I'm not even finished watching but I definitely want a fancy painting coverall...as a fellow very messy painter. LOL
Charlie, Look at Shannomakes. She made a onesie out of terrycloth towels (yes with pockets).
They are such fun! And I completely agree - you cannot have too many pockets!
This is so cute!
I loved the editing in this video- especially chucking the bag and having it crash off the side 😂
for the pockets...could you add some sort of rigid stabilizer, maybe in the top fold, that will help keep heavier items from falling out but still stick out of the pockets? but still allow for stretch in the rest of the pockets for full stuff-ability?
