  • We started forestry mulching on this job when the county showed up and said all the permitting wasn't completed. We were allowed to forestry mulch, but weren't able to complete the basement or any dirt work.

    I really like the title of this video. That was nice of them to let you continue. The other day I went to wipe my butt and a guy from zoning stuck his head out of the toilet and wanted to see my permit.

    We live in the land of the free as long as we have a permit. This day and age we need a permit for everything. As for your locks maybe design a flip up cover to go over your locks to keep rain water out.talk with the manufacturer for they may help.

    Jon,your in your element when your in the woods.great job on mulching,it changes the looks of the property big time.the permits were owner responsibility,no idea how long to get them.I would go to the next job,owner should understand it was his mistake.he would have to wait.my opinion.great video.😎😎😎👍👍👍

    For the tool box water issue... Machine a collar for the bottom. a side bolt and a flip cover lid for the handle. cut seals for each layer. Condensation can be handled by a 12v incandescent bulb hooked into your running lights. when the truck is on and running the incandescent bulb will burn off the condensation with its heat. an 1157 will keep a standard tool box pretty dry.

    Hey Jon, IMO, if the owner stated to you with certainty that all the permits were in place, but they weren’t and you now need to pull your iron out to complete a different job due to delays with this project, then the owner should understand an extra re-mobilization charge. That’s just the way it is. You shouldn’t have to take that hit.

    • @donnal.oglesby4806
      @donnal.oglesby4806 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I totally agree, the permitting issues are the responsibilty of the owner, and if he screwed up, he should understand that he will now have to pay extra to you to come back, this is business, you should NOT be taking a hit for what he should of done.

    • @mikel9567
      @mikel9567 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@donnal.oglesby4806 That isn't exactly true. Most contractors handle the permitting and include the charges in their bids. Contractors typically have relationships with the agencies and know the process better than the homeowner does. A project like this is most likely being handled by a General Contractor as well. I would venture that John is a sub contractor. Whoever the General is would be responsible for pulling permits.

      As much as the GC's making in profit these days he can take the hit ultimately he's responsible.

    You were talking about water getting into the lock on your toolbox freezing. But not only that it will eventually rust the lock I would definitely keep it lubricated. And here’s a thought something that you might try. Drill a whole just large enough for a piece of clear line like gas line for a weed eater or chainsaw or like on an oxygen tank. Then stick the tube in the whole and seal around it and then run the tubing or hose along the inside of the toolbox to the bottom and drill another small hole so the water can drain out. Just a thought.

    I hate it when you spend big money on something to protect your investment in tools and it doesn’t do the job as it should. As far as the locks freezing, carry a small bottle of rubbing alcohol in the truck. A few drops prior to a freeze will prevent icing and if you forget until later if you can dribble some through the key hole it will soften/ melt ice. Hopefully you can get enough to drip into the lock.

      I have the same problem both with storage box locks and also locks on my gates - I carry a brulee torch in the truck at all times so I can thaw them as needed. Keeping them oiled helps but they still sometimes freeze. A real pain on a cold day and your trying to get stuff done.

    This video really hurts my feelings because you didn't have all of the proper government permitting to be on site and therefore cannot continue to wear out those already wore out excavator pins. 🤣
