I've been isolated for two months, alone with the ashes of my mother because she died right before the pandemic lockdown. Sakamoto-sama, please receive my deepest appreciation and thanks for this art session.
I heard that Merry Christmas Mr Lawerence theme song right before my friend died. I didn't know who to turn to and thought the only people who could understand would be the soldiers. Cos they had their friends die all the time. So I watched the ww2 documentaries. I heard one nurses in stationed in Africa had wrote in her dairy "we all cry in private, but never in front of the boys". So I always I had to hold back my tears in front of my friend. When she died was the first time I cried.

My wife and I were very fortunate enough to see Ryuichi play a solo concert in London almost 12 years ago now. The audience (mostly Japanese) were so polite and courteous throughout. You could hear a pin drop. Not a single cough or sneeze, nobody getting up to go and get a drink etc. Amazing experience. Met him afterwards and he was such a gentleman.

I first heard Mr. Sakamoto’s music when I was at the lowest point. His music, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, took me in a daydream and allowed me to wash my loneliness with tears. And this is what I love about him as an artist, he truly can transcend emotions beyond time and space. Thank you for thinking of us Mr. Sakamoto.
His music has haunted me since merry Christmas mr Lawrence came out. It was the last movie I saw before I went to navy boot camp, so for 38 years it's been in me. I want it played at my funeral. That's how much I love it.
That is so true. I've been a fan of his music since i was a teenager, met him 3 times in France, and, what a "gentle-man", and what a musical genius... 💙
I’ve had the opportunity of meeting working and pretty much living with him. To this day whenever I hear a solo piano I cannot help but to think of this man. The time I spend although at the time it seemed long but was actually way to short. Once his music was in me it was in to stay and to this day everything musically from the time spent with him till now touches me to the depths of my soul. I once had the privilege of being with him when he was composing the music for ‘The last emperor’ I was in Tokyo to work on an opera he composed. He left to go to China to record and I’ll never forget him coming back to the rehearsal studio and playing the completed compositions and I was sitting it a puddle of tears. I had never been moved so much. Thank you for allowing me to spend that time with you. I will never forget one of the most beautiful and rewarding musical times in my life. One love Ru. Are you the guy who performed on Sakamoto's Neo-Geo tour? I love the version of Tibetan Dance with your vocals. Must have been an incredible experience.
Four years later, you are and will always be missed. Thanks for all the amazing legacy you left, so we can, forever, feel one with your wonderful, magical, soul.. ❤
Dear Sakamoto, today I am saddened by the news of your departure from life. With you a bit of my life has gone as well. You Sir gave so much to all of us , I have only gratitude for You... may You rest in peace dear Ryuichi
R.I.P thank you Mr. Ryuichi Sakamoto. Your music always in my heart and forever. The news of Mr. Sakamoto's departure were very sad to me. I got to get in touch with his music as far as four years now, and although the time's not that much, it's enough to make it so sad, to find out he's not with us anymore. To think he's been working on his music until this very year, and to remember every single person that happened to trace their inspiration from such a great musician... Truly someone that not only could be rightfully called the sound of postmodern Japan, but also the sound of many nations. Wherever he may be, he will always be missed.
I've never cried watching a youtube video, but I couldn't hold my tears during Bibo No Aozora. I wasn't thinking of anything, just feeling the intrinsic beauty of the song through the pianos sound. The feeling that Ryuichi is the universe itself is within his music.
Rest in Peace, dear sir Ryuichi Sakamoto. You will be dearly missed. I am so devastated because I just watched this same vid recently hoping and praying you’d get better but God has took you with him now. I hope you’ll reunite with Mr. David Bowie up there. 😢😢❤

When I was a kid I heard Endless flight during the credits of Babel (the movie.) I was enamored by the beauty and melancholy of the song even though I was too young to understand it. I have been a fan of Sakamoto ever since. I am devastated to hear he passed away, but I will cherish his music forever. Thank you
Im so late knowing this magnificent and genius artist even though im late your music is great it can connect my heart througly rest in piece Mr . Sakamoto
At the last Everyday, I open the window Everyday, I brush my teeth Everyday, I read the paper Everyday, I see your face In the gleam of a brilliant twilight I see people torn apart From each other Maybe that’s their way of life Everyday, I ride in cars Everyday, I watch TV Everyday, I write my diary Everyday, I go to sleep Everyday, I wash my hands Everyday, I go to sleep
I love his never being old and experimental, daring about his work but keeping his style, somehow. I mean.. his good looking is another thing. He has it all! It’s not fair for a genius like him has looks and warmth and the sense of keepin’ it real!
If he stay home and do nothing he will be remember forever for produced masterpieces who help construct eletronic music like Riot In Lagos and Thousand Knifes, but he still being a avant garde, still searching for ways to show the world new forms and art and sounds. Deep respect for you Mr Sakamoto, stay safe, lets all win this virus
I've been listening to your music all week as I mourn the loss of my friend Michael. He died too young in his early 40s. He blessed so many around him, made us smile, laugh uncontrollably, brought us joy. Touched countless people... as your music has also blessed us. Thank you Sensei Sakamoto. RIP
Thank you maestro. I watched this concert live on TH-cam during the pandemic. I was struck by your humbleness, sensitivity, and artistry. But especially by your kindness in dedicating this concert to the many who were isolated in different painful ways. May you have a joyful and peaceful journey lifetime after lifetime and throughout all eternity. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🎹❤
- 2023.04.03.

Somehow I suddenly started to his music "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" after lock down in LA. I picked up his music by my memory and and started to play piano. I cried so much during listening his music which was rewashing my soul. His music is so beautiful. His soul reaches out our soul. Thank you so much. Sakamoto-San.
This whole performance is drenched in emotion, which I value above perfection. I also feel deeply moved by it. Thank you for your gift to us Sakamoto San.
finding myself, unawares, applauding not-too-loud claps at the closing of each tunes played by Mr. Sakamoto, a medicine that heals both the body and soul of those down with the pandemic.
The final song, Perspective, blew me away. It feels like it was written for this exact situation in everyones life, giving us a chance to reflect. I feel as if from this performance I understand what people mean by the colours of the piano. What a sincere and beautiful performance.
When I first heard this version of the song, I was confused. I had been so accustomed to a faster tempo. But when it came to the chorus, it all made sense.
I have such profound appreciation, admiration, and respect for Ryuichi Sakamoto and have been following his music and career for nearly 40 years. He is a brilliant artist and this offering shows a special side of him where he uses the unfortunate situation of the pandemic to bring the beauty of his music and that of the other highly skilled artist he is performing with to people in isolation. A remarkable gift from an extraordinary person! Thank you, Mr. Sakamoto!
Wow, such a lovely comment. 40 wonderful years, and many more to come. Mr. Sakamoto's compositions are akin to a library containing volumes of human experience. Incredibly intimate and enchanting. He pours his soul into those keys, resonating out into those who listen. I am much younger than you, in my late 20s; I look forward to living life with his music like you have. In the 4 years since I came upon his catalogue, it has carried me through times of elation, deep despair, hope and lack thereof. I truly do not know where I would be without him. I do know, however, that I will continue to share his life's work with anyone who cares to listen. Thank you for sharing your experience with his music; thank you, Mr. Sakamoto, for your generous contributions to our lives.

YES
Today you left us... I already miss you Sakamoto San. Thank you for everything.
Rest in peace, with my respects.
When I was a kid I heard Endless flight during the credits of Babel (the movie.) I was enamored by the beauty and melancholy of the song even though I was too young to understand it. I have been a fan of Sakamoto ever since. I am devastated to hear he passed away, but I will cherish his music forever. Thank you
It is not just music, it's art of sound
music is by definition art of sound
@@MrMinusguy He made it something more creative and beyond the music that I knew.
That's so brilliant!
Im so late knowing this magnificent and genius artist even though im late your music is great it can connect my heart througly rest in piece Mr . Sakamoto
At the last
Everyday, I open the window
Everyday, I brush my teeth
Everyday, I read the paper
Everyday, I see your face
In the gleam of a brilliant twilight
I see people torn apart
From each other
Maybe that’s their way of life
Everyday, I ride in cars
Everyday, I watch TV
Everyday, I write my diary
Everyday, I go to sleep
Everyday, I wash my hands
Everyday, I go to sleep
Life is short. Art is long. Love you Sakamoto-San RIP
I cry each time I hear Bibo no Aozora. Every. Time.
Heartbreaking and beautiful
his relentless search for new ways to communicate sounds and emotion is so inspiring.
May you find your eternal peace, Professor.
I love his never being old and experimental, daring about his work but keeping his style, somehow. I mean.. his good looking is another thing. He has it all! It’s not fair for a genius like him has looks and warmth and the sense of keepin’ it real!
"So much to share and so much to learn" Master Sakamoto never leaves you indifferent. Health and long life, master.
Thank you Mr Ryuichi Sakamoto, may you rest in peace.
The isolated are grateful and saying "thank you" all the way from the other part of the world.
And his human touch.
Man, I love you for the creation of the word "avant garden". Pure poetry! Nice comment, too.
@@Centigonos i are braziliam and study italian, i never study english, but this word is wrong in any idiom, my fault
@@artfannotcritic3680 No worries, it's all good and wonderful! You shouldn't have corrected it...
Yes he is so humble and kind, and always encouraging other people (in his aging days😆)
Beautiful, well said. You gave the perfect words
Such beautiful music can only keep us healthy :)

Rest in peace, Mr Sakomoto.
I was, am and will be in love with your music. Forever.
I don't know what so say. It makes me really sad you are no longer in this world.😢
You will dearly be missed.

Rainy day in the U.S Midwest. Coming back to this wonderful concert. May all beings find contentment.

Thank you for all the music you share to the world, 坂本龍一様.
This is beautiful art, massive respect to all of the people that made this performance possible. Greetings from Chile.
Rest in Peace, dear Mr. Sakamoto...we are still listening to you and will continue to listen for a lifetime...
This performance came at such a vital time for so many people. Thank you, Mr. Sakomoto, for sharing your gifts with the world.
finding myself, unawares, applauding not-too-loud claps at the closing of each tunes played by Mr. Sakamoto, a medicine that heals both the body and soul of those down with the pandemic.

this is a supremely wholesome and gentle comment section.
So glad I came across him - RIP maestro🎸
The final song, Perspective, blew me away. It feels like it was written for this exact situation in everyones life, giving us a chance to reflect. I feel as if from this performance I understand what people mean by the colours of the piano. What a sincere and beautiful performance.
When I first heard this version of the song, I was confused. I had been so accustomed to a faster tempo. But when it came to the chorus, it all made sense.
I love everything about this. Even the lighting, camera angles and cinematography, the artists and instruments are beautiful.
Sakamoto, for your generous contributions to our lives.
feeling honored to be here
While the world is in chaos, I find great peacefulness listening to this masterpiece.
