      I reckon he knew he was going to do a radon separator demo for the homeowner, because he read the script.
      Well done the program researchers who found a home which had one and the props dept for getting on on set!!!
      All Richard had to do was drop it in place for the start of the scene 😁.
      All joking aside that was quite interesting as never seen one before ... nor anything like the plumbing involved from a well source.
      Have to say tho' the pipe section which got modified did seem a bit "hanging in the air".
      Perhaps a tray doofer support thingy might have been useful?

    It's the quick close valve at the washing machine causing water hammer.
    All they need is a hammer arrestor.

    • @Windiguana
      @Windiguana ปีที่แล้ว

      Except it's clearly air in the system and you have no idea what you're talking about. Yeah water hammer is definitely a thing with a solenoid valve, but that's not what's happening here.

  • @Mike__B
    @Mike__B 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not a big fan of that fix for the water supply, "oh you just make the restriction greater" but how will you know to make it greater? AFTER your sink spits water all over the floor? At which instead of turning the valve you maybe investigate which filter needs to be cleaned... I mean that one sediment filter looked absolutely nasty almost a coffee color to which Richard changed and left all the floating bits in there "Come on Richard, empty all that water!" . Seems to me a better solution would be some feed back mechanism, like maybe an always open solenoid valve with a float switch such that if the water level is too low it doesn't allow any water to pull.
    I dunno, I have city water, with no radon and it never looks milky white as "normal"

  • @scottsatterthwaite4073

    Why would you use a ball valve as an adjustable flow restricter? I would think a gate valve or an actual metering valve would be a better choice.

    @rcmrcm3370 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Poor guy, Richard put in all that plumbing, when all he had to do was closed down the tap on the water supply to the washing machine. That also reduces the amount of water hammer every time the solenoid valves in the washing machine cut off flow.

    • @XX-166
      @XX-166 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Water hammer and air in the lines is a real pain. I find myself shutting off the main and opening all the faucets to burp the system which does work for about 6-7 months but it eventually comes back and I have a tankless water heater.

    • @t1n4444
      @t1n4444 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      But ask yourself, how else could they have crowbarred in that product from radon eliminator company?
      Producers had probably twigged Richard couldn't use any Festool kit so came up with this.
      Suspect Richard et al get to go on the after dinner speaker circuit so would need to come out with annecdotal stuff. He could only talk so long about life in "TV plumber land" and how long he spends in "make-up" ... he certainly doesn't spend in much time in "wigs".

    • @t1n4444
      @t1n4444 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Painters tape might well be cheaper but suspect this was just a way of showcasing another product.
      If time is money then you would save on the application time and possibly the stripping it off time.
      And, if you're a contractor, then you'd charge that to the customer under "consumables", in the same way as the paint and that paint additive stuff, and possibly the single use paint tape used on the dust sheet or whatever you call it on your side.

    • @Windiguana

    The stair handrail and cables would not need to be modified and brought up to code if they were installed before the date that particular requirement in the code became effective. The condition would be "Grandfathered" in, assuming it didn't violate the code when installed. Otherwise every house that was built 80 or 100 years ago would need massive upgrades whenever the house is sold. At least that's how it works in my area, it may be different where this is taking place.

    • @Enkufka
      @Enkufka 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the force was in the form of air pushing up through the water, not down onto the water. The water flows out the white downspout into an un-pressurized chamber which then feeds into the second pump. The force applied had no effect on the water in the reservoir, it was all blasting through the water flowing down to it.
