As someone who truly suffers from ADHD. It's annoying at times as to how many people abuse the drug. I've had local pharmacies run out of my meds before. Due to the fact of there being a high demand for them. Well guess what, the times where the local pharmacies run out. Is the same time of year for most schools finals.

As someone with ADHD, here is my view.
I don't take Adderal I take methylphenidate. But I have never:
    - Felt my medication 'kick in'
    - Felt like I can do anything because of my medication
    - Felt like I was strong/faster because of my medication
Overall the effect is less like making it easier to focus, and more just reducing distractions. It's like the difference between shortening a track, and removing barriers that are spread out along it.

I have also taken methylphenidate and am currently on dexamphetamine, it’s comical how they’re portrayed in this trailer. It makes me think I’m taking the wrong thing lol. Both are very identical I can tell you that. Adderall seems to last longer but not in a good way; you can’t sleep

For the most of us who are actually diagnosed with ADHD it doesn’t make us feel like that, I mean yea a little bit but we still have to form habits to learn how to manage our emotions and focus on what we need to get done when we need it. These people seem like they’re not diagnosed and just found a doctor that prescribed them the medication. If you’re not diagnosed you shouldn’t be taking it cause that may affect the people who do need it.

The way we view drugs in America is horrible. Adderall literally saved my life. I had no sex drive, extreme fatigue, tired, slurred speech and was getting hard to even leave the house. I got my testosterone, thyroid and blood tested for everything... All my tests where normal. I tried a no sugar diet, vegan diet etc still nothing helped. Adderall literally gave me my life back because it turned out I had an EXTREME anxiety disorder.
On the other hand my friends brother took way too much and killed himself on a come down. The point is people take too much of drugs because society either says it's cool or doesn't educate enough. We need to be taking drugs with no pre conceived notions or social pressure and honestly evaluate the effect of the drug on yourself. We need to view drugs as a neutral substance that may enhance or worsen you in your current predicament.

I have ADD, and Aderall never made me feel that way. If anything it calmed down my mind to help me think and focus better; this effect also allowed me to take a nap during the day (when needed) because my mind wasn't racing like it otherwise would have been. If I had any of those symptoms mentioned, I would have not continued to take it (I care about my health). The symptoms mentioned sound like the same kinds of symptoms that NTs have when on it. Based on the trailer, it sounds like it's spreading misinformation.

That's interesting. I have ADHD too but I have very different side effects with my meds. Maybe it's bc I take a different brand of stimulants and I have Inattentive Type of ADHD. Instead of drifting into daydreams every 5 seconds and having zero motivation to do anything, I feel like I could run a mile and do every single productive thing I ever wanted to do in my life. I noticed that this intense surge of energy is the constant in all three of the stimulants I tried, but the one that I am taking now is the least intense because it does not raise my heartbeat to 130 (at rest) and does not cause me to fidget and have shaky hands as much as the others. I'm glad Aderall helps you sleep. As for me, if I wanted to fall asleep and not stay awake throughout the night in a hyperfocus state, I'd definitely make sure not to take my meds very late in the day.

I still have to work really hard to stay attentive, it jut gives me the small boost i need. I’m just confused if this is trying to say adderall is bad for ADHD kids or not. It’s the doctors who inaccurately prescribe young people with stimulants that are making it very hard for people, like myself, who have been dealing with ADHD since childhood, to obtain the medicine we actually need to be productive members of society. If you truly have ADHD and have had psychotherapy and have been diagnosed by a professional, fine. But these people are just unmotivated.

    • @patrickdebany1323
      @patrickdebany1323 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

why would that make it hard for you to obtain medicine? Get a doctor/psychiatrist that actually listens to your symptoms and history. Nothing else matters. A good doctor should be able to tell the difference between a drug-seeking individual and someone who would actually benefit from medication.

    • @froklan
      @froklan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Unfortunately not... Because of negative stigma about drug-seeking individuals and the drugs themselves. College-aged people with ADHD, like me, who actually do/would benefit from using the proper dose (which I would do) are often "barred" from receiving it or, filling a prescription, or having it on campus etc... there's a whole slew of paperwork you have to fill out EVERY time you fill one and it's really just overwhelming. It's kinda a catch-22, I often feel like I need it, but I feel like I'd be better off/less stressed if I didn't have to worry about filling it, yet I often can't focus without it, even some of my other coping mechanisms fall apart without it.
It's hard to obtain medicine because it's become an epidemic because those who misuse it are making the university consider it a "performance enhancing drug" rather than a "needed medication". And performance enhancing drugs can't be used by anybody but a cheater. Overall, those that aren't responsible make it harder for those of us who are.

I was diagnosed in early childhood; given Ritalin eventually switched to Adderall. Somewhere along the line I neglected to continue taking my medicine. When I decided my quality of life was effected in its absence I wanted to go back on. Some Doctors are against/reluctant to prescribe Adderall/Benzos. I had to see a mental health counselor for more than a couple sessions- telling him my symptoms and history. The counselor took notes and passed them to the affiliated Doctor (who prescribes meds based on the sessions with the counselor). This process is typical in NYS and it's how my eligibility was re-established. I would image going to your PCP and asking for Adderall wouldn't work as well. You really should do the mental health counseling- which includes the sessions with a therapist/counselor followed by a quick monthly check-in for refills from the prescribing Doctor.

I remember when I was in high school being assigned "twenty minutes" of maths homework and having it take well over an hour every night. Not because I was bad at maths (I was average) or because I wasn't committing to do it. I would sit down with the book open in front of me and my brain would spend 80% of the time refusing to comply. Keep in mind this was before wifi internet and smartphones. I was alone in my room with no distractions, but all "no distractions" meant was that I'd swing back and forth in my chair and stair at a spot on the ceiling when I should have been calculating the value of X. And while, yes, I made it through high school without taking ADD drugs, that was only through hundreds of extra hours of struggle to get the same result as everyone else.
I guess the point I'm making is, if you have been diagnosed with ADHD, the side effects of aderall (which I've never taken) and other ADHD drugs (which I have taken, via prescription) are very real and should be considered with the utmost seriousness. But they should also be weighed against the equally real side effects of trying to function without them.

I was assigned 20 long division problems in 5th grade, and I remember breaking down in tears when I heard the homework for the night. The teacher asked me what was wrong, and I mentioned how I understood the concepts, but that it took forever to do a single problem because I was "too slow." (I was undiagnosed at the time). My teacher was sympathetic and said I only had to do five, and she recommended I take breaks in between problems.
The homework took 3 and a half hours, breaks not included (total time was closer to 5 and a half hours).
Long division problems are made up of tiny calculations you have to do, such as, "how many times does [number] go into [number]?" Then you have to multiply that number by the divisor, subtract it from the dividend (or what's left of it), bring that difference down and add a zero placeholder in some cases, then repeat. And repeat. And repeat.
I kept zoning out and forgetting what step of the problem I was on, and then I'd try and backtrack to figure out which step I was on, but while backtracking, I'd zone out again, and then I'd have to figure out what I was just doing beforehand, and then do some more backtracking to figure out what I was even doing, and while backtracking, I'd zone out again... and then I'd have to check my work, which meant more zoning out, and more backtracking, and further frustration and boredom that was fueling my zoning out to begin with.

THANK YOU. I literally cannot function without it. People have no idea how crippling ADHD is and assume that it's just laziness. It's a legitimate mental disorder, and for a lot of us, no amount of exercise, diet, and yoga will help. The meds allow me to function at a normal level without feeling mentally drained every time I try to force myself to concentrate or organize my life. It gets to a point where no matter how hard you try, you can't get yourself to do anything.

I have ADHD and I have taken ritalin and later adderall on and off since I was 8....but I legitimately have ADHD like, when I take it, it’s for a legitimate reason. this documentary seems a bit offensive to people who actually have mental illnesses and literally need prescription drugs in order to function. I don’t take meds to get special powers, I take them to be as normal as possible.

This trailer makes it seem like amphetamines simply make you better at everything - which is not the case. What adderall does is it makes you temporarily more focused on something. However, WHICH something you focus on is up to you. It's very easy to waste half a day on adderall when you intended to work but instead spent your time in a Wikipedia spiral. And it's not going to make you smarter. It will likely increase your productive output, but there's no guarantee that whatever you produce will be any good. That being said, it is troubling that a huge amount of young people are taking it consistently.

I actually thought that Family Guy did an okay job of satirizing its effects, at least in Brian's case (th-cam.com/video/lq1HUjgehlk/w-d-xo.html). Brian takes a bunch of adderall and builds this whole fantasy universe, complete with it's own language, but when he shows it to George R.R. Martin, Martin says its a bunch of derivative crap. He was very productive, but what he produced was pretty low quality. Obviously individual effects vary, but in my opinion if you want to be creative, adderall is not the drug you want.

@@leowalraven897 I know I'm super late on this but. I was diagnosed with ADHD last year at 25 y/o and I had to have my stimulants (Not even Adderall, instead it was Elvanse) from private medical care (I'm in the UK) instead of the NHS because they're so iffy about giving stimulants out to people that need them.... all because of the constant talk about people illegally taking them.
Of course there needs to be a big conversation surrounding how unliveable and inhumane educational, work, and residential spaces have become for everyone, and the drug consumption it causes. But making the the conversation centre on a medication that is life changing to people with an actual real disability just adds to the stigma that ADHD adults are 'faking it' and 'Drug chasers'.
Instead we need to shift the conversation to the people pushing such environments and cultures. The cause of the problem, not the symptoms.

I fought for years with my son’s schools because they kept pushing me to medicate my son...
I’m glad I did my research.. I’m glad I didn’t give up.. we have severe heart issues in my family.. this medication would have probably killed him if I had agreed with the system.
the schools didn’t care... but, fortunately, my sons psychologist agree with me and encouraged all the research I did..
protect your children! Do your research... it’s not worth achieving success at the cost of shortening your life and possibly harming your health... QUESTION EVERYTHING... because the system won’t.. and they don’t care either. Everything in their eyes is in the name of profit

Think I'm going to try it again. Though I do want to get a lower dosis. Since I do know it affects my eating habits and I'm not going to let it affect my training. I do think it can help people with ADHD, but one should probably not take it before they have full control of their life, since it lets you go balls to the wall every day. Which is not a good thing, work should be RPE 8 or below most of the time unless you want to get adrenal fatigue like i did the last time.

Uh. Okay. I'm diagnosed with ADHD and I take adderall and I have to roll my eyes on how much they sensationalize and hype up a medication that taken as legally prescribed is pretty lackluster. When you're taking the prescribed dose of your ADHD medication I think it's pretty normal to wonder if it's even working or doing anything. I feel like the people who think that adderall is that cool are the people who don't have attention/memory problems and abuse it to do extra well, as opposed to people with ADHD who are frequently disappointed realizing that they still have hard to manage ADHD symptoms and will always have to try harder to manage basic responsibilities.

I mean yes... but often cases where the person develops a dependency, are when the prescribed dosage is too much. Hence why most people aren't prescribed a daily dose. Also, cutting it out cold-turkey is going to have side effects similar to a caffeine withdrawal (rather than a meth withdrawal), regardless of your dose. If getting off it is a goal, then step it down dose by dose. Overall though, Adderal has a VERY short bio-half-life within most human bodies. Should I be amazed to hear you've been off it for a year and are still suffering side-effects?

This really just pisses me off more than anything. Being a person who legitimately struggled with self medicating because I wasn’t being properly medicated until later in life with adderall. Because until then I didn’t know what exactly was wrong only that something was missing and causing me to suffer greatly and I was unable to function because of it. It wasn’t I was finally put on the proper medication along with adderall that I finally was able to start feeling content and happy and for the first time in 30 years (yes 30 years, that’s a true statement ) I was able to start being productive without the use of illegal opiates that simulated the same effects such as energy and focus in me. I wouldn’t get out of bed most days for the majority of my life due to what was wrong chemically in me. I’ve missed more days of living than I’ve probably actually lived. And because others abuse this drug now, on top of the fact that I myself wasn’t taken care of I can’t begin to tell you the amount of bull shit I’ve dealt with at times with certain Drs who are shit at there jobs. I need this medication to live a life worth living, and that’s after trying everything else possible without knowing that. It was only recently that I finally realized and accepted what this medication had really done for me, my life, and my mental health as a whole. But people who don’t really need it and just want to take advantage of it will ruin it for the people like myself. And the Drs who suck will give it to the rich kids for the right price while the rest of us suffering on Medicaid can’t find a decent psychiatrist to save our lives. I’m so fed up with everything and everyone.

    Grande mestre Iluminado!
    Eu serei eternamente grato, Baby
Você é o único que me segurou
    Nunca me deixou cair
Você me deu asas e me fez voar
Você tocou minha mão Eu pude tocar o céu
Eu perdi minha fé, você me devolveu

So basically I found out I went through college without taking any drugs except alcohol when I partied and was apparently at a severe disadvantage for not being on speed. I probably should have been on it with how long I needed to study to understand materials inside & out but I still made it through. One thing this documentary was awesome for showing is how not being part of the competitive corporate rat race is so much less stressful. I hated bell curve classes, people would actively try to sabotage other students, it was a me vs you mentality in a damn university where learning should take all precedence. Like some of the people in this film, it took me some time to find my own way but now there's no stopping it.

If you don’t have ADHD how can you be qualified to pass judgement on the medication prescribed?
This medication is not wanted but is needed for the ADHD brain to best function.
Treating those properly prescribed like they are drug addicts is shameful, IMO

Nowadays I am using medication to control anxiety.I know that there are too many people using medication to anxiety, depression, add, and too much other neurological disorders. But there's one fact that helps on the process of healing: Faith. Faith in God the Creator and in His Son Jesus Christ.I am not a pastor, but i let here my testemony. Greetings.

This bugs me. Never did adderal, probably won't--I dunno though. I just want to know why there's a pending moratorium and study on these drugs when pretty well all mass shooters are on the other psychotropic drugs? I'm not for any of them but it seems the latter should be more important. Tin hat theory: it's all a distraction to keep the money makers safe.

I know a lot of people that use this and the scary thing about it is that the general public doesn’t know what the side effects or the risk of addiction is.
