MY NEW BIG SHOT (with starter kit) ON A TEST DRIVE - with dies, embossing folder and accessories

  • I just got my new big shot machine, and I took it for a test drive with you :).
I'm showing the starter kit and some intricate dies, together with bigz dies, movers and shapers dies, cutting pads, embossing mats and a crease pad.
The embossing folder is a texture impressions folder with a sort of LATTICE pattern... I haven't seen it sold separately.
Marianne Design has got an embossing folder (pearls), that is similar to the one in this video.

Thank you SO much, Sari. If it weren't for your wonderful video I would still be too hesitant to go ahead and put those dies through my new Sizzix Big Shot Plus, despite the creaking/cracking noise. I watched many tutorials and yours is the only one that was really detailed and addressed the struggle with trying to make the "sandwich" go thru, even when everything is put together correctly, in correct order. I had followed your channel for several years now and really love your creativity. I hope you have a wonderful Holiday Season. Hugs.
    Thanks again,
    Barbara

I have just got a Sizzix Big Shot . Very excited with it as my other one is very heavy to cart around. What I have found with the extended multipurpose platform, is the wire on the side comes out easily so that you can select 1and 2 or just 2 and you don’t have that big piece hanging out the back. Then you can reassemble the platform again when you finish. Thanks for the video.

Really enjoyed your video. I just bought the Big Shot plus and am enjoying it very much. A trick I do for dies that are intricate is to run a folded dryer sheet with the paper. I find that the paper pops right out. And another item I use especially with Spellbinder dies that are very intricate is the sticky die release foam Cheery Lynn sells. There are certain dies no matter what the paper sinks into the die and tears. I find that foam releases the paper and creates a beautiful cut. I ordered it direct from Cheery Lynn.

@@estelalopez5483 Hi there! I have to say the The Big Shot was one of the best purchases I've made for my card making. I have the smaller Boutique, but really don't use it at all anymore because I can do so much more with my Big Shot! I would absolutely recommend purchasing it! I love it!

@@estelalopez5483 I just bought a Big Shot from Costco online, and I love it. Well worth the price but note that from Costco, it came with the standard length base and cutting plates and did not come with sample dies. However it did come with a spare set of cutting plates which is even better IMHO.
This video was very helpful because it describes the difficulty getting the sandwich through when it is thicker - on top of all the hints, tricks and product demos. Yes a bit chaotic but still very informative. And thanks for the warning about the possibility of cracking the housing if your sandwich is too thick. Cheers!

Jag kom precis på ett annat trix för detail dies, när man kört igenom den en gång bara vrid på dien 45 grader på plattan (om det är möjligt) och kör igenom den igen. Då brukar man träffa alla sweetspots på valsarna och får en bättre utstansning.

I loved your video. I just one last month. I am not crazy about the long base plate either. I wonder how the bevel edge of top plate will work when only wanting to do a half a die, say for flip fold card. I wanted to mention that old plates that are badly scratched will leave marks on the paper. A good idea is to keep one top plate free of cutting so it won't mar the paper. That is why colored plates have come out, but I got carried away and cut one of mind by mistake. Have a creative day.

Call me cynical but I suspect you get the extended platform now because they don’t sell very well so they are off-loading them onto new buyers. You are then more or less obliged to buy additional extended plates to go with the big platform. It’s a win win for the suppliers.

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hi there...
there's the "regular" magnetic platform - that replaces the base platform.... and that is great... just for the fact that the die stays in place :)...
and then there's the precision plate... i believe it's called... and it is also magnetic... u r supposed to have the die against the black - magnetic side... and that sure makes a difference die cutting intricate dies...
sometimes I forget about that wonderful tool...
the base plate is great to keep, when u r going to do some dry embossing with folders... the magnetic plate is too thick for that purpose...

I have looked at dozens of demos for my problem, but no luck. Perhaps you can help me, or lead me to a place that can. I realize this is an older video, but I'm going to try. I've had my BigKick with a Double Wedding Ring die less than a month & have run a few thousand pieces of fabric for a quilt through. I use a sticky roller occasionally to wipe off the die. New sticky roller stuck on the die and now I have what could be called glue on the die. Is there anything I can do?

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      HMMM...
I'm not familiar with that particular problem, but perhaps you could try running the die with just paper through the big kick...
i suppose the die you've used is a bigz die, with thick foam?
perhaps there is some kind of glue remover that you can use - with a light hand...`
I've had issues with glue and my cinch, when I've made albums - and enforced the spine with duct tape... that was a bit messy, and I thought i'd never get it clean - or get it to work again...

    • @carolray3637
      @carolray3637 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi try wiping it down with a product called 'Goo Gone' - this is a solvent that will remove the residue but you will need to clean your die well, afterwards, with soapy water as the solvent is oily. That said, your sticky residue will be gone...

  • @Kathy-ju1hy

SARI... I just got this same machine, so frustrated! I have a Spellbinders frame die, not near as detailed as these you show. I used base plate, metal plate, frame, paper and cut plate and it wont even go thru the machine! I don't understand WHY you got TWO cutting plates thru and it finally cut and mine wont. GRRRR Ideas????

    •  8 ปีที่แล้ว

Well... I suppose some dies are more tricky than others...
It's a bit troublesome with the big big shot... One has to struggle...
There's really no use forcing too many plates through the machine, if it won't accept it, but it should take the regular sandwich... I had to push with my stomach, and at the same time hold on to the machine...
I'm not sure if that helps you in any way...
      Best of luck...
Take it back to the shop, if it doesn't work...
I suppose the tightness is an improved detail, so one will get better cuts.... :).

It's not cutting properly because your dies need to cut downwards. You're only applying pressure to the cutting edges which will damage your machine rollers. Cutting downwards applies more pressure over a larger surface area hence effective cutting of intricate dies.
