I actually like this. I think we sometimes have this idealized view of the 80s and that era, but we forget it was the peak of suburbanization, huge highways, parking lots, no real towns or cities, no community, these fake wooden houses being massively built, just a neighborhood to live in and then commute endlessly to work in a big city and go shopping after that. As he says in the song, we promise to fix all your solutions, with sales, products, consumer goods, no more babies crying. We forget those are things that really involve living. Not all the products, but actually finding a life that you feel satisfied in, a career you enjoy, a community to work in, a family that you see grow up and teach them.
LYRICS: Wake up to a new life A yard with a fence And take a good look in the mirror We spared no expense White teeth, no circles under your eyes The baby stopped crying Like we advertised Take a deep breath Suburban Solutions has your back We've come to the end Put up your feet Come to the end Take a big bite As much as you can fit We've come to the end Put up your feet Come to the end Come to the end There's a small monthly payment Click here to apply And change that pathetic excuse for what you call a life But we love real people Real salt of the earth And sign on the dotted line, darling It's what you deserve Take a deep breath Suburban Solutions has your back We've come to the end Put up your feet Come to the end Take a big bite As much as you can fit We've come to the end Put up your feet Come to the end Come to the end As much as you can fit We've come to the end Put up your feet Come to the end Come to the end As much as you can fit Come to the end Put up your feet Suburban Solutions has your back Come to the end Put up your feet Come to the end Come to the end Suburban Solutions has your back Come to the end Put up your feet Come to the end Come to the end Suburban Solutions has your back
This song really makes me wonder if we still idealize the suburban life. At 30 I still feel so far away from what he’s talking about, and it always feels like it’s in the back of my mind. Hard to put into words. I feel like I don’t know what I’m doing!
Interesting....I interpret the lyrics as being more sardonic and critical / skeptical of this way of life. Edit: the borderline apocalyptic imagery near the end of this video kinda confirms my initial thoughts
@@bengallup9321 i interpreted the same. i was thinking more in terms of back when this actually was the desired way of life. im agreeing with the song vibe!
I get infomercials stuck in my head on a daily basis. Making a song into one was genius because I literally cant stop hearing it in my head lmao. Hold was such an underrated release
Yeah, I hear a bit of them on this. However, the Prefab Sprout vibes are strongest on "Wheel of Misfortune" from his last album, _Indigo._ He even admitted that track was specifically meant to emulate their sound.
@@gp-nn7zy Agreed on both counts. This has been a fantastic year for music overall. New albums from GUM, Alan Palomo/Neon Indian, Molly Burch (produced by Jack), Nicholas Allbrook, Beach Fossils, Tennis, etc., all of which have been great, and based on what we've heard from it so far, I'm very confident that _Hold_ will turn out to be one of Jack's best albums yet.
I'm almost 41, I kinda grew up a little bit in the 80s, but I agree with you a thousand percent, better than a lot of today's untalented BS that you hear. I've been listening to Wild Nothing since 2011 and they keep evolving.
Is this Song of the Year so far? I think it might be. I love Wild Nothing, and this track takes their song writing to another level. Such a unique combination of subtext and melodic emotion. I feel like I'm walking into the apocalypse with a smile on my face. Brilliant song and exploration of ourselves.
There's also music being made by other modern artists that is heavily influenced by stuff from the '60s, '70s, and '90s. I've got a feeling these last six decades of music are gonna live on for quite some time, simply because there is a literal ton of incredible music that's been made, a variety of ways to hear it, and there are many ways in which you can utilize some of the sounds that were popular in those decades to make something similar yet still unique.
Hmmm yes, some old school Wild Nothing to cheer up my mundane heart…. ❤️ excited for your Chicago show ❤😊 But please come to Minneapolis soon. Tired of driving the 7 hours to see ya’ll 😂🤷🏼♂️
This music is so amazing, I hope Wild Nothing himself is also a fan on the French legendary band Indochine. In their previous years, Indochine sounded a bit like Wild Nothing now :O
Wonderful Wild Nothing album, (probably their best so far), to be sure, with "Hold" in 2023. First song "Headlights On" is really hoppin', and ready for the dancefloor too. The whole album is really great and easy to listen to and have fun with as well. Another great song comes up midway with "Suburban Solutions" I groove to no doubt. There really isn't a bad song to be had on "Hold". I used to listen the Wild Nothing in my summers in Europe in the recent past with my cousins in Denmark and England. They really liked Wild Nothing also over there, and often enough was on their local radio too. Closing out the album "Pulling Down the Moon (Before You)" swept me away as a perfect ending, for a perfect album IMHO. Cheers and pax, Murf
If you listen to wild nothing, you are the main character
Exactlyyy
in such a crazy world we live in I'm glad there's wild nothing.
80's were a decade in which it seems the world could have existed forever
Not sure how that would go politically lol
I love this era of wild nothing ☺️
You know what. It sounds like I'm reading a brochure like a song.

thanks for your insight on the lyrics! it makes me think a lot
yep suburbanites only feed the greed of the corporations they serve to live in.
LYRICS:
Wake up to a new life
A yard with a fence
And take a good look in the mirror
We spared no expense
White teeth, no circles under your eyes
The baby stopped crying
Like we advertised
Take a deep breath
Suburban Solutions has your back
We've come to the end
Put up your feet
Come to the end
Take a big bite
As much as you can fit
We've come to the end
Put up your feet
Come to the end
Come to the end
There's a small monthly payment
And change that pathetic excuse for what you call a life
But we love real people
Real salt of the earth
And sign on the dotted line, darling
It's what you deserve
Take a deep breath
Suburban Solutions has your back
We've come to the end
Put up your feet
Come to the end
Take a big bite
As much as you can fit
We've come to the end
Put up your feet
Come to the end
Come to the end
As much as you can fit
We've come to the end
Put up your feet
Come to the end
Come to the end
As much as you can fit
Come to the end
Put up your feet
Suburban Solutions has your back
Come to the end
Put up your feet
Come to the end
Come to the end
Suburban Solutions has your back
Come to the end
Put up your feet
Come to the end
Come to the end
Suburban Solutions has your back
I remember hearing this song for this first time still. Can't believe its been 36 years. What a cool song, it still holds up so well. Love it.
Lmao
Lollll😂😂😂
I thought this song was new, anyway it's a very good music
@@martinluther3625 It _is_ new. They're joking about how '80s it sounds.

Cool Music!
From La Oroya, Perú
Maaaan, this new album can't come soon enough. These two new videos and tracks have been glorious.
2:37 onwardsss
At this point, his sound and song craft are so effortless and organic that I'm convinced he simply can't make bad music.
1:18 Love how no one is talking about this message
Thanks for all the years of fire music, Jack. We love you
I appreciate you so much Jack, never stop making music! from Argentina, xoxo visual fresh

This makes me smile. This band has so much history in my life.

This song and video are so so good. Reminds me of the Housemartins - disarmingly nice sounding music with razor sharp lyrics and subtext.
Jack Tatum, eres tremendo genio! En verdad que tu música hace bien al alma. :´)
Espero que vengas a México!
This is the most 80s thing to never come out of the 80s.

KOOL tune!
Great song! Looking forward to hearing the rest of this album!
Gives me Empty Estate era vibe
This is so good. Been jamming to it at work!
This is why I live in a majestic ‘80s cabin overlooking a public greenway!
In my opinion this is one of the best songs Jack has ever produced as Wild Nothing, a danceable and contagious vibe!!!
Nice 80`s vibe, love it!
