You are NOT allowed to sleep in court! Especially if you are the defendant. Even audience members aren’t allowed to sleep, read newspapers, etc. When Trump falls asleep the bailiff should immediately wake him up.

I thought everyone knew not to wear thin, very contrasting stripes on TV. It used to be something people did if they knew the press were going to be around so they didn't get interviewed. Like if a VIP was visiting your workplace with TV in tow, you'd wear stripy and be told to stay out of view.
Pundits can criticize Judge Merchan all they want, but he knows exactly what he's doing. So what if he didn't put all of the gag order violations together and rule on the whole package all in one fell swoop? These media pundits keep projecting that Merchan is weak because he isn't moving the way they want him to. He's keeping the first priority front and center: to get the witnesses (and there are quite a few) through their testimony so the jurors can deliberate. Important as the gag order violations are, they are a side issue and don't require much time.
Trump violated the gag order AGAIN after he was fined $9K, which is NOTHING to him. Merchan blinked.

I'd be pretty bored listening to Trump's s3x life. It's like 13-year-olds playing Jackbox on Twitch: they won't talk about anything but that one male body part. Gets boring fast.
We (in Sweden) have a fine called "day fine" witch if I understand it right mean what the person fined is likely to earn in a work day. That way a homeless person might be fined 20$ while a ceo could be fined 20k+ $ as it is what they reasonably according to tax records earned in a average day the last tax year. That way it is fairly adapted to 99% of all defendants.
Germany also has this.

I tried that in one of my Classes in College, and that worked until the Prof came up and slammed he had on the desk. I should have had an A but it came down to the final which I got a B.
Might not be that far from the truth in a way, he could be disassociating, putting his mind somewhere else because he can't cope with the reality. Although I think it more likely that he's taking sedatives.
If I was on the jury, I would ask the judge if we could find Pennywise not guilty by reason of insanity and/ or mental incompetence. He could not fight it, and it would stick.
This might vary in different jurisdictions but the "not guilty by reason of insanity" only applies to murder and gets it downgraded to manslaughter. It was a way of people avoiding the death penalty but not imprisonment. He could launch a "not fit to plea" case but that doesn't make the case go away, just postpones it until you're better and he can't really do that and run for President.

Re. Trump closing his eyes: He is seen with his eyes closed, but often when his head is not in a sleeping position. One commentator joked that he might be doing what a child does: closing his eyes, believing that nobody can see him. Trump has retained many childish traits. This might be just one more. Oh, sure, Trump knows that people can see him, but closing his eyes makes him _feel_ like he is invisible or that he is somewhere else. I think there might be some merit to that.
I think disassociating, imagining he is somewhere else is a possibility.
