I still don't understand why they deployed the bridge but closed the gate? The guy wasn't walking out their so why would they give the demons a free bridge to cross lol..
Was thinking the same thing. This was such a useless gesture by the defenders. Not only to deploy the bridge but also to sacrifice the poor man for a useless speech.

D2 was the best game ever ~ Great gameplay + storyline + graphics + excitement ... looting Diablo, Mephisto and Baal was fun =)

The crazy king being delivered via a giant platform, Blizzard did this in 2000, the movie 300 did it in 2007. Nice.
20 years ago I was so impressed by this cinematic that I didn't realize that it doesn't make much sense. They just send a guy out there to give a speech, open the bridge and to be killed by Baal.

Anyone else think that the second cutscene - Destruction of the Worldstone - looks better in the original version? I just think the way they used the lighting there, the color composition... It makes it seem almost otherworldly, like you've stepped into another world almost, where you are not supposed to be. The heart of the world. That magic has been somewhat lost in the remade version I feel.

@@DirtyNinez This. Tyrael in Diablo 2 was basically Astral Projecting himself onto Sanctuary. He was kinda present, tangible even, but he wasn't at full capacity. So it made sense for him to possess more of an ethereal form. Also counting the fact that angels are made of pure light and melody.

Hot Take/Theory: Tyrael is basically useless. Tyrael’s *Sword* is the real hero. In fact, Tyrael is *so* useless, he projects this like aura of uselessness that weakens everything near him. His mere proximity is directly proportional to his Sword’s relative uselessness. Seriously. Think about it. In D2, Tyrael loses Sword in the tomb and instantly becomes useless and disappears until LoD. In D3, Sword is gone and Tyrael is just a pain in the ass and makes you spend most of Act 1 trying to find/fix the true hero, Sword- upon doing so, thanks to Sword, Tyrael immediately becomes only a mild irritant instead of a pain in the ass, so that’s something. In RoS, Sword helps Tyrael withstand a mild breeze for 10 whole seconds so -Lorath- Loreass can run away, but then Tyrael drops Sword and instantly becomes so useless that Malthael picks him up out of disgust and chokes his ass and throws him across the room like he owes him money. I think he gets Sword back later, but he still spends most of the game standing around town doing virtually nothing- again. Tyrael in a nutshell.
Conversely, in D3, getting Sword advances the Main Quest. Without Sword, The Nephalem is stuck in Tristram for eternity, Diablo beats the shit out of Imperius (which was pretty funny ngl), destroys the Gates of Heaven by *yelling* at them like he got that Dovahkiin energy, then blows up Heaven and destroys the universe or whatever. Which would not be ideal. But who stops Diablo? Technically the Nephalem, but only with the help of Sword. So, Sword basically more or less saved the universe in D3.
What about D2? Well, Sword helped Tyrael not be *completely* useless at the beginning, which is something. But then Tyrael did Tyrael things and became completely useless and disappeared until the end of LoD. Oh, but Tyrael saved the universe by destroying the Worldstone, right? Actually, no. No, he did not. Watch it again. Tyrael walked up and mumbled some nonsense. In true Tyrael form, this accomplished precisely nothing. The one indirectly semi-useful thing Tyrael accidentally did was *throw* Sword.
But Tyrael did not destroy the Worldstone. *Sword* destroyed the Worldstone, because Tyrael threw Sword, he *wasn’t holding it* anymore, because that’s how throwing works. Thus released from Tyrael’s grasp (pun totally intended), Sword was freed from his influence, and instantly began to become less useless and regain its true power. The further it traveled from Tyrael, the less useless Sword became, until it was finally able to destroy the Worldstone and save the universe- again.
That’s 2 times in 3 games that Sword saved the universe. How many times did Tyrael save the universe? How about zero. Actually, less than zero, since his screwups were kind of responsible for some issues, like releasing Baal, releasing Mephisto, releasing Diablo- twice- you know, a few ‘minor’ setbacks, so Tyrael gets a negative score.
And who cleaned up Tyrael’s mess pretty much every time? Well, yeah, the PC. But also Sword.
Now, I’m not a Diablo loremaster or anything, so I *may* have slightly forgotten/mixed up some of the details, but close enough. And I don’t even know what, if anything, Tyrael and/or Sword did in D1, so I cant speak to that. And I literally just finished the first quest of D4 last night after spending like 2 hours trying to start the game because I kept DCing while creating my character- which I guess could technically be considered world’s fastest permadeath, so there’s that- tho I wouldn’t be surprised if that was somehow Tyrael’s fault too.
So I don’t know if he’s even in D4, but if so, I’m sure he’ll find a way to be useless and screw something up again. Hopefully, our boy Sword will be there save the day- again. He’s a real one. Low key greatest hero in the series. Can you imagine the kind of apocalyptic shit Tyrael would cause if Sword wasn’t there to keep him in check?
It would probably involve having phones.
Make that high key greatest hero in the series.
EDIT: Oh, right... didn’t Tyrael have a little protege/apprentice/sidekick way back in the day- name of... Inarius...? Yeahhh... I still don’t know what all goes down in D4, but homeboy clearly made some *questionable* life decisions that may have led to some unfortunate side effects down the line... Tyrael didn’t even teach his boy the most important rule of all: Don’t F crazy, bro. Don’t matter how hot he is- or *allegedly* hot, in this case. Miss me with that “mommy” simp shit. That shit is f****ng weird. If you’re into that kinda thing, it’s still f****ng weird. Talk to somebody. Yes, I said it and I’m not sorry. One look at that bih should be enough for an “aw, hell naw...”. The eyes, man. She got the crazy eyes. You see those eyes, pump the brakes, player. That is a ‘nope’ situation. Just go. Don’t do it to yourself. Trust me...

The demon lord is indeed Baal, Diablo's brother and another lord of Hell. Arguably he's even worse than Diablo, and he has brought his army in the lands of Scoglen north of Khanduras where the original Diablo is set, in order to conquer the Worldstone Keep where the Worldstone an immensely powerful artifact kept by the Druids and barbarians. But the Keep's inhabitants won't give up so easily!
