You have simple goals, such as find and eat good food, and I respect and appreciate them.
We travelled around Kyushu for 3 weeks last March and absolutely loved it. In Kagoshima, besides the food, my favorite was the longest open-air footbath of the world (on Sakurajima) which is free of charge to use. And in Kumamoto, its the cute mascot Kumamon, and the wonderfully restored castle.
I am sorry to hear that you haven't been feeling well, and I hope you are better now. The food on this outing looked stellar, and the ice cream seems like a must try. 😊 I can't wait for the next installment.

I'll be tuning into these episodes as my wife and I are planning to visit Oita & Saga next winter. We've traveled to Kyushu twice already. It's a wonderful place with natural beauty, great food and friendly people.
STJ's videos are a great resource for helping to plan a trip! I'm still saving up to go for my first time but I'm definitely going to check out some STJ-featured spots! 😁

Based on what SJT and others have shown, you would have to be extremely unlucky to get a poor meal in Japan. I have a good track record of seeing the food on SJT and predicting if there will be the "!!".
Excellent. We have a new restaurant near us that has the best tonkatsu. I hope it stays in business a long time.

Ah, so sad you did not get to eat kagoshima kuroi wagyu at ichi ni san in Amu plaza. It's my favourite place for kagoshima wagyu and kuroi buta shabu shabu.
