I believe it's legal as long as you dump your own bios. If you don't dump your own bios like a lot of people do and just scourge one online then it's technically not legal but if you own real PS2 hardware I don't think anyone will question it.
I advise you never move from consoles. I tried PCSX2 and own a PS2 and tried the same games on it… there is nothing like playing PS2 on a CRT TV, the feeling will never fade.
It'd be nice if the PS6 came with backward compatibility so we would have more use for our physical games. I highly, highly doubt that will happen but it'd be cool to have our old games upscaled and running at better frame rates. One can dream...
I have a 7 year old PC and PCSX2 runs well on it - I've only really tested it out a bit but a few games were very glitchy, but most seem to run fine. I'm gonna dive deeper into at some point when I feel like I have nothing better to do.
If you wanna know all the big emulators heres the ones i use that work good. PCSX2 for ps2, dolphin for nintendo consoles, RCPS3 for ps3 and Xenia for xbox 360
The most important thing I recognized in this video was the speak on emulation. Emulation is so important for historical purposes of giving games a chance to stand the test of time when they're long forgotten, even by their initial creators. While physical media like us as people in society age, the medium becomes outdated due to that aging of technology so it really is only the best way that feels convenient. With being able to enjoy these games like how we used to; when we were younger as people. I can't even play most of my physical copies nowadays considering it's not capable to display a playable version of the game considering what time frame the game was made in. Is no longer compatible in a sense anymore, without getting an upscaler and that will run u like 100$ alone. Just to be able to perserve titles that should be treated with proper restoration in the first place. I know that can of worms will always be complicated depending on title's licensing and what not. But emulation really is the best way to enjoy this kind of stuff nowadays.

One thing that emulators can't do at all that is on the OG hardware, are the pressure sensitive face buttons that are used in MGS2, GTAs. You can get it back y using a DualShock 3 but there are so many people that just use a DualShock 4 or an Xbox 360 controller
About ps3.. uhh.. i played my ps2 game on ps3 Fat for a couple of times.. because i only played my ps2 on the real console on CRT TV (its the most enjoyable and High quality way to play ps2) so uhh.. in ps3 Fat all ps2 games are being HD.. and more clean looks and thats soo awesome to play But then your Fat ps3 will be Jet engine..🤣 my advice is either play ps2 originally in Sony Trinitron CRT (its soo worth it that you can see Depth view on the graphics trough Real CRT experience😁👍) wich is the best way of owning ps2 and played it.. Or just play on Fat ps3 and trough a hustle of Replacing Thermal paste.. drilling a hole on ps3 case to get more air flow.. or even crazy to make it watercooled ps3(wich is overkill since it will crazilly cooled down) But all and all i think playing a Real ps2 on sony Trinitron CRT was the best experience you could easily have without setting up emulator and without needing to have proper PC or specs to run the emulator.. ya know not everyone always having PC that support.. but an original ps2 and a CRT TV is way easier to do.. and the graphics are just better in person on playing it trough CRT..😁👍
RTX 2080 Super is a great Graphics Card to have😂 Sure it is not the newest, but it was pretty much top of the high end back in ~2020. I am on a Radeon RX 480 8GB from 2016.
Emulating PS2 on the Steam Deck was like the ultimate realisation of the dreams I had as a kid. A PS2 (and others) that I can take anywhere. We live in a pretty cool time for gaming. Well, old games anyway.
I agree! Losing physical media will suck even though it's heading down that road already. That's why I'll always love the 2000s era of gaming the last decade where collecting physical media really felt like something.
I still buy physical media in 2024. I buy music CD's, Cassettes, Vinyl records, DVD'S, Bluray movies, and video games. I don't have any streaming services subscriptions whatsoever. Im 42 years old. I will always prefer physical media over anything else.

I wanted to get into pcsx2 but since I haven't used a computer since highschool in 2001 I decided to just get Free HDD boot and a really good crt TV and I'm happy with it. I don't have to worry about being a computer expert to play it. Doing it this way definitely is not as good looking as the emulator but it's good enough for my simple mind. Thanks for showing me what I'm missing though. Maybe someday I'll can get into pcsx2.

I also find everything moving to digital to be depressing. Going out to buy physical games or movies used to be almost like a social interaction where you would sometimes see a friend in the retail store or talk to other people about the same interests. In our country the majority of Music/Games/Movie stores have closed down and even half of our cinemas. At this time digital stores have greater specials more often, but things didn't used to be that expensive back in around 2009 when all these stores still existed.
Im still running my PS2 with a ssd and opl using component cables on my older tv I don’t particularly care much for emulation on PC because the people in my life see me play and then they’re like let me play so I just hand them controller two. FMCB isn’t always ideal but its easier to deal with. As a matter of fact I have a TV dedicated to the consoles of my childhood. I have a modded OG Xbox a Gamecube with an SD card mod and my PS2 with an SSD something about actually dealing with the console itself is just the best for me. Like on my PS2 I still use memory cards I know FMCB is capable of virtual memory cards but the memory cards are apart of the fun at least to me anyways.
I've been messing around with PCSX2 lately. Just beat Final Fantasy 10 for the first time on it yesterday. There's so many random old PS2 games worth checking out.
I've been emulating consoles for decades at this point, still amazes me how much better older, especially 3d games can look through upscaling and texture re--packs. One thing I'd like to try, but have no access to a CRT TV is run a PS2 game at 4k or something on a CRT just to see how good it looks
How would you even do that? Even HD CRTs only take up to 1080i. Upscaling and then downscaling would kind of work, maybe... There are 2 games that support 1080i natively and it's software upscaling, as most PS2 games are 480i

Xenia is one of the best emulators for Xbox 360, the process of setting it up isnt too difficult either. i played through the entirety of Red Dead Redemption 1 without any major issues, including undead nightmare!
Blurriness only exist on PS3 BC with PS2 games and PS2 consoles connected to LCD panels (no matter the cable!). But if you play the PS2 on a nice CRT using component output it looks surprisingly sharper, actually it looks sharper than any console of that generation! But if you go to composite on the same CRT it looks like sh1t. Original component cables on a CRT it is, and you will be in awe!

Love emulators like Dolphin and PCSX2 but there's something about playing on original hardware exactly as I did when I was a kid that emulators can't touch, the nostalgia itch hits way harder on my 20 year old PS2 than my PC or Mac
I remember maybe 11 years ago when I used to emulate PS2 loads, and could not get over getting such a high resolution. These days I still prefer to play PS2 on my CRT with a HDD mod. I feel so blessed to have had the PS2 in my pre-teen years.
Those higher resolution look like ass, they were never intended for those games, and PS2 emulation is still buggy, even today. A nice quality component cable together with a nice Sony CRT from the 2000's, Ps2 looks incredible like this! No bugs, no glitches, nothing, just awesomeness.
I too dabbled with PCSX2 recently and I’m really impressed. I love my original console and playing it on a crt but also really cool seeing it upscaled on my monitor or taking it on the go with my steam deck. Anyway playing PS2 games is cool to me
I also suggest trying Xbox Dev Mode for Xbox One Series S and X, it makes certain games look way better than there original systems and it can play the whole entirety of Ps2 library just fine and the benefit is that you don't have to plug in a pc
A 2080 is basically the equevelant of a ps5. It's a graphics card you could potential ride for another 3 years or so if you don't care about running your games on high settings.
Hey man you should do a video on TyraCraft for PS2. Some guy made MineCraft for the PS2! Still in Alpha I think but it works pretty good and think it would be good content for your channel.

PS2 Emulation is the greatest thing ever. just playing the PS2 library ALONE will get me going for the next 15 years also 2080 is more than ENOUGH GPU for PS2 emulation , the real thing is CPU anyway and if you have a 2080 i assume you have a good enough CPU in your PC as well. keep on Emulating
@@TurnerTurnip what? that's not what i'm saying , i am saying most of the Emulation magic happens with CPU , it has to emulate the entire system. the GPU comes handy with rendering magic but it doesn't have to do much so 2080 is more than enough
@@leorelic I'm not really much of a techie guy. But what I know is if I go into my nVidia settings from my desktop, it gives me an option to run a game from my CPU or my graphics card. I thought perhaps that option would also be available with a PS2 emulator.

Your CPU is the one trying to mimick original console behavior and it uses single threaded performance to achieve it so the more ST performance you have on your CPU, the better the games will run. For RPCS3 it's about how powerful your cores are and having a minimum of 8. The GPU is just for upscalling. For 1080p, I can actually just use my integrated GPU. I have a Ryzen 9 7940HS & 780M GPU and the emulators run like a dream. I just can't use very high resolutions like 4K.

Emulating at 4K is a whole another experience in itself. I can't deal with the blurry and jaggy 480p.

PCSX2 is amazing but for the games that dont work well in the emu i use one of my ps2s with the PS2hdmi adapter looks amazing on the 55 inch
