This lady deserves not only a verbal apology, but compensation as well from Home Affairs. They messed up her life. This guy who married her must also be pursued and brought before the courts.
Very common, my identity was also stolen at Home Affairs. I only found out about it when I had to apply for a passport. Almost lost a scholarship to study abroad because of this issue.
I can relate in terms of being married to a stranger, I was only lucky in the sense that I had proof of not being in the country when the so-called marriage took place. First response I got from a HA official was that..." you ladies like to take money from these foreigners then you come back and say you don't know them"🙄🙄 my passport was what saved me.
Even when married, you are not forced to change your maiden surname.Whilst she was waiting for investigatio she could have retained her own surname.DHA will toss you around if you arent informed.
I think you said this while sitting in a couch and sipping a cup of coffee, but if you were in her shoes you'd speak otherwise. It was not the matter of just getting the ID, remember that she was with her husband at The Home Athives, carrying an infant child, they are getting married the next day and the most shocking news broke in and her husband get angry and leave her right on the spot. So can you imagine all this trauma??? So stop thinking with your ass.
I am also a victim of that fraud, they said I must look for him, home affairs is refusing to help me the person can't be found,he even registered tv licence under me 🤷
I am sorry about your situation. It is frustrating, depressing, and draining. The physical, financial, and emotional trauma of walking up and down with no help is Frustrating! I am struggling with my finger print. Home Affair cannot help me. 😪
Took almost three years for mom to get a divorce from being married to someone she doesn't know.. and a another year for home affairs to clear the surname on their system" and give her another ID with her surname.. She had her first ID made in 1990
I can’t imagine how many women go through this and no one is held accountable. I’m glad she persisted and took her surname back. Sucks that this thing has held her back so much in life💔

We found out that my cousin was “married” when she passed away, in the week of funeral arrangements. But in her case (people who were close to her revealed) it was believed that she was in on it, she was compensated by the guy, to get South African citizenship… it was a MESS 🙆🏾♀️🙆🏾♀️🙆🏾♀️🙆🏾♀️.
I'm not surprised it does happen they collect the money every month. Families they will never know until the person passed away shocking news will be reveal in home affair when family collecting death certificate
What I don't understand as someone whose married with this unknown person with nothing of his name. This person should be registered somewhere as an employee or owner of some business cause many who does this it's their way of wanting to get green card or citizenship. She needs to find a tracer or private investigators to follow this everywhere
At the same time I do have a feeling those fraudsters must have a link with someone who knows the lady and using her details to scam. This case is one of many out there, some people still struggling with the same challenge.
When "home affairs" couldn't even help her in 15 yrs ...now how is she gonna afford to hire a private investigator livin in shack ? The gov should be held responsible to figure out what happened and bring everyone involved to book...this is their citizen after all... Probably useless sayin all this anyway as she probably won't even read any of these comments because of not having access to youtube ...living in a shack. Such a horrible system !

Same thing happened with my aunt. She only found out after her UIF could not be released, and when I investigated, we founded out that she was married without her knowledge to a nigerian surname. The marriage was annuled. Very difficult tedious process.
I was not going to leave the home affairs until they fixed my surname. I also had a mistaken surname, they did not want to help me. I insisted until they change error.
I believe her story when she said she do not know the man but he's a South African guy. Lebo you asked good question was so curious too that how did they get her contact in shop Heeeey! Most South African women are lying out there getting in contract marriage with foreigner's, collecting a certain amount to foreigner guy before the contract finish they go to home affairs, police station claiming that they do not have idea how they are married to person.

The person who did this to her is obviously not South African. When we fight these injustices we are labeled as xenophobic. I feel bad for this poor lady
I agree. South Africans service workers are also a problem . I am in no way deflecting blame from them. They have to face consequences for doing this. However, that still means the foreigner who did this is not legally supposed to be in South Africa. He needs to go!
I knew someone was going to blame a foreigner forgetting that the Home affairs pple received the bribe, why dd they not report the matter and get the person arrested or deported 😳😳😳it's your own pple love.
