I randomly met Mac at the Arc Light in Hollywood, I was freaking out to say the least. He’s such a cool dude. After talking for about 5-10 minutes. We were saying our goodbyes, when he gave me his email and invited me to watch him play at the Greek Theater. He got me VIP passes for me and a few friends. He’s a genuine guy. LOVE THIS MAN!

As someone who’s played on stage with a big artist, it’s kinda surreal when you’re in that moment, for me it was drums and while I played it was pure muscle memory and didn’t think about what I was doing till I finished. I know that kid will probably remember that for the rest of his life

I was a guitar teacher at a music school for two years (only left because of COVID). I have taught people of all ages, races, genders, religions, sexualities, and just knowing that I might have contributed for people to live moments like the one this young man lived in the video legitimately fills my heart with joy. This kid absolutely killed it!!
This kid learned this song one day not realizing he would get the chance to play it with mac demarco. Absolutely incredible and lovely performance! He didn't mess up once!

Man there’s only a couple of mac demarco songs I listen to, but the way he treats people and his worldview is really what makes me a fan. Very cool of him to extend that stage presence to a young fan, and so patiently too. Sometimes it seems like when artists pull people up on stage they are ready to judge their abilities, with this it felt more like he was just concerned the kid was as comfortable as possible. Very genuine person

Arrogance is a huge turn off for many people. Being humble makes you and people around you feel better, not arrogance.
I find it pretty arrogant to judge somebody based off of a few minutes of unexpected on stage playing, with potentially their favorite band. The range of emotions going through someone in this moment (while they are probably a bit intoxicated) is too much for any of us to judge. I find it's best to give benefit of the doubt when you know zero about a person, but others find it's best to let their insecurities show. It's up to you, in the end, it doesn't affect me any.

You know what, now that I look, I’m positive it’s his Squier, all the ones fender gave him all have maple necks, this one is rosewood, and the top coil bridge pickup is white, not black.
This is probably the best possible thing that can happen to you on a concert
Mac switching the pickup to neck at 2:33 is amazing, just such a great moment of smiles all around. You can see that kid going “SO THATS HOW HE GOT THAT TONE!” Because he’s clearly familiar with the part, but not Mac’s nuance.

rubberneck88 Playing a show is one thing, walking up on stage and calling so much attention to yourself to be some badass guitarist is another. I could play on stage in front of lots of people with people I know and not feel any nerves at all but the other week I signed up for a jazz jam and the anxiety from that was pretty bad. Still just something you have to get used to.
