    It's devastating to see the Aurora, after all that blood sweat and tears poured into her, struggling to remain afloat just so she can be scrapped 😢.... But there are no words to describe my feelings about Chaleur... The minesweeper was like a second home to me for two years as I worked with her then owners to clean her up and convert her.
    I was quartered down at the waterline in the old crews quarters. Somewhere down there is a locker... And inside it you'll find a jacket, 2 pairs of jeans, work boots, and a book on Jacques Cousteau I left behind before she sank.
    So many good memories... Knocked back many a bottled of cider and chowed down on 'Hullbilly street tacos.'
    It truly makes me sad... She was such a a good ship... They BOTH were and deserved such a better ending than this.

    I’m amazed by the wood mine sweeper. I would have thought it would have fallen apart raising it. But that thing is in incredible shape. 😳 same as the Aurora

    Heartbreaking to see Aurora in such a state after all the hard work done on her restoring her.

    All the work done on the aroura by the previous owner all wasted and I bet the engines and generators are now completely ruined
    Looks to me like the aroura is still trying to sink , it’s well low in the front

    Seeing the Chaleur made me almost cry, spent several happy years in her sister ships Miramichi and Fundy. Great boats, great crews.

    The owners, and a handful of volunteers tried to do what it would have taken an dock yard facility to do. So I don't find the outcome surprising in the least.

      But only above the waterline. They never dry docked her to deal with anything below the waterline - which was always the risk and the false economy in spending money above the waterline.

    Yeah that was the MV Aurora I'm glad they're pumping her out but are they gonna scrap or did somebody buy her to rebuild her?

    • @kitt2000car
      @kitt2000car หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nobody is going to buy her. They would most likely have to pay the huge salvage bill?? City officials want all the ships gone and I dont blame them. I hope they go after the owners of the other two sunken ships??

    Boards were covering holes in the gunnels. Mine sweeper was a former HMCS (Canadian) minesweeper. Been sitting on the bottom for years now. NOT associated with the folks that owned the tug Mazapeta, or the Aurora.
    Aurora was indeed german built. One if the first built in Germany post WW2. Look up 'Aurora Restoration Project'

    If that's a mine sweeper next to the MV Aurora it's trashed because that's a wooden vessel
