Yeah, an Oscar does little to nothing for black actresses. Just an Oscar nomination for white actresses comes with a career takeoff to the A-list, higher pay, and leading roles in major films. Most of the black actresses that have won Oscars have stated they still have to fight for higher pay. Hattie wasn't even allowed to attend the ceremony and had to enter/exit through a back door to accept her Oscar. Post-Oscar, she was still only able to land Mammy/servant roles. While The Help and the Oscar did make Octavia a household name, she has yet to become a leading actress and still gets reduced to supporting roles. The Oscar did nothing for J-Hud and Mo'Nique's (we all know the mess behind that) careers. Regarding Halle, Regina, and Viola--by the time they won their Oscars, they were already household names. Their careers seemed unchanged post-Oscar, except Halle who had an increase in her pay to become one of the highest paid actresses at that time. However, the Oscar did nothing for her in terms of getting quality roles in major films aside from X-Men.
The only person who did experience a post-Oscar career boost was Whoopi. After Ghost and her Oscar win, Whoopi not only became A-list and the highest paid actress in Hollywood at one point in the 90's, but also experienced lead actress success in major films like Sister Act. However, even Whoopi said that was short lived. She has stated many times the reason she joined The View was she needed work because she was no longer getting hired for acting work.

Lily might’ve not gotten the Oscar but by running for best actress instead of supporting she’s bagged a few leading roles in upcoming projects so A. That’s a win for us all and B. She’ll DEFINITELY be back. They’re gonna have to put some respect on LILY GLADSTONE’s name

I loved TVD…until I found out about what happened behind the scenes. How Bonnie was done on that show grinds every gear in my body, only to then hear Julie Plec’s (up there with Tyler Perry, for me) logic of how she wrote the character. Then there’s the other cast members…
I ride with Kat and Ian, and that’s it. Bamon would’ve trumped all other ships combined, but I see why it never happened.

PS: Based on what I heard about the show, this is why I won’t ever watch Sleepy Hollow.
The behind the scenes of shows during that era was despicable. The amount of racism that happened during that time was off the charts. Especially what happened with the sleepy hollow actress I think her name was Nicole she faced so much abused by the director and producer.
I think Damon would’ve changed a lot faster if he was with Bonnie..
Ugh let's not get into Sleepy Hollow. How they did Nicole Beharie so dirty still bothers me. Just ruined a perfectly good show with their antics
I think Bonnie deserved better than Damon 😩🥲 But if Damon had to be with anyone, Bonnie was a good choice. Bonnie would’ve actually demanded better behavior from him and held him accountable, and I think he would’ve actually improved a lot more with her
@@msbranch2879 Her and Enzo were sooo cute tho…and Damon would’ve met the same fate as Enzo. Regardless of the boyfriend’s importance to the show, Bonnie ALWAYS had to sacrifice everything for everybody who could do nothing for themselves.

Exactly! Sandra should’ve been the second choice, not Emma, after acting in two wildly different roles last year! Emma’s performance was not as remarkable in comparison to Lily and Sandra.

Imo, Emma gave the most standout performance in that category outside of Sandra Huller. Lily did well in the role but was borderline supporting. And I don’t think there was enough special about the role as written and performed that could usurp her being borderline supporting. Stone’s win for La La Land landed less well for me. I felt her character in that movie was underwritten. The romance was meh. And her singing and dancing for a musical movie was mediocre at best. While Isabelle Huppert was brilliant in Elle. So, I guess I’m one of those La La Land haters 😂.
I'm might one of those "unpopular opinions", honestly I'm over the movies at this point of time. Uninteresting storyline, bad production quality, and redundant most of it.
Its more interesting to me to go for miniseries and television series. Storyline is binge worthy, the characters arc, plot twists, the drama and reality of it all... Its so good. And to think that most of our favs breakout starts are coming from it before they're in big films.

Both Emma and Lily Deserved it. Most Oscar wins happen because of strong campaigns. Kind of like politicians. Well established actors are obviously going to have stronger campaigns because of their resume. It’s just how it works but Lily’s nomination is FAR from a loss. She made history and she WILL be back. (this LEADING nom strengthens her chances in the future❤️)

Her performance wasn’t easy because she was an indigenous woman playing an indigenous woman … it was easy (compared to Emma’s) because she was hardly in the movie .. and when she was, there wasn’t much going on for her. it was centered around all of the white men..
Regardless of the Oscars, give career awards to people who are undeserving all the time they could’ve still given won to Lily Gladstone, because her performance was still amazing and she capture the screen
