People need to calm down. Kanonaki/Qanun is a Greek instrument, just as it is an Arab instrument, and an Ottoman instrument... Like baklava, it is common to the culture of the whole region. Ancient Greek/Byzantine culture influenced Arabic culture, Byzantine and Arabic culture together then influenced Ottoman Turkish culture, and Ottoman culture in turn decisively influenced modern Greek culture.
Thank you for saying this...instruments don't follow political borders and if a country plays it, it's their instrument regardless of it's origin. Most instruments came originally from a culture that is long gone, anyway. The Saz, Tamboura, Panduri, Bouzouki, Boulgari, Oud, Lute, Mandolin, Guitar, Pandoura etc or any instrument from the Lute family came from a Sumerian prototype most likely
Have you seen mucisians meet? They dont speak same languages or even their countries are thought to be eternal enemies but for them is as if they know each other for ever. Thats what happenedhappening...mucisians meet, share their instruments, culture and tunes. So simple. We have ended up fighting because mucisians are full of love and acceptance. We hate because they love and they will always love and/to share....
Greeks influenced other cultures and got influences from other culteres since 2500 B.C. Greeks know Egyptians,Assyrians, Phonicians,Scythians, Persians but where in hell where the Arabs and Turks all those thousands of years till 600 A.D. Arabs and 1100 A.D. Turks to teach greeks that their ancient greek instrument Κανων has been invented by them ?
Please calm down a bit. Back then there wasn't Turkey. It was a Greek region. The whole land was Greek and occupied by Alexander the great. So yes. Those instruments are greek.

Well said fílos/arkadaş, what's also important to bear in mind that these musical instruments predate any modern country currently in existence
