Great exercise. I may have missed it, but I think you should also mention the position of the knee in relation to the foot. When performing a lunge to develop leg strength and flexibility, the knee should be directly above the foot, not past it. Allowing the knee to extend beyond the foot can put undue stress on the knee joint, increasing the risk of injury. Keeping the knee aligned above the foot ensures proper form, targets the right muscles, and maintains joint stability, which is critical for injury prevention and effective strength development in tennis players.
The knee is designed to bend to a full range of motion. There is also a rotational component to the knee.
It’s possible for the knee to move out of alignment with the foot when playing tennis. So it’s important to train it in these positions as well.
