The scheming in real life was for sure not nearly to the degree of this drama. But yeah, a country's ruler falling in love and forsaking everything else for her is definitely not a thing in real life.

The Emperor was always wanting as many heirs as he could bring into this World no matter what. There were so many women wanting the status and power that they would do each other in to eliminate their competition. This must have been a horrible situation to be in. I blame the Emperor for everything.

So first the guy goes around boinking right left center and then kills off the children or neglectfully marries them off - what a great example of parent & ruler 🙄

So I've notice that Story of Yanxi palace and Ruyi's royal love in the palace are similar but with a different plot. The first empress in Story of Yanxi palace was also from fuca clan and second empress was also from Ulanara clan. All the the kids of concubines in the palace are from the same concubine in both drama. Is this like a drama repeating history or what😂
They're about the exact same emperor but follow 2 different women from the the same harem. Unfortunately because of things like the second empress wanting all official records of herself being erased or the fact that no one even knows consort ling's actual given name, a lot of things from both shows are also different. Both show writers had to contend with conflicting information and it's not like people wanted to write down every detail of their devious plans thus they had to fill in a lot of gaps for themselves.
The first empress was known for her kindness but was she actually that kind, like in yanxi palace; or was it an act like it is here.
The same for the second empress where she was given her original empress title and then a second elevated one after she died but she was also locked away for several years and temporarily lost her title; was she manipulative or framed?
Even consort ling's death or how she was as a person is very ambiguous. She does gain the title of empress at some point but it only happens after her death, then the next emperor adds onto her title, the same way it was for the second empress but was it for a sense of duty or did she really have that much of a good impact on his life? Hell, the poisoning they have at the end of this show is weird because it was not a formal punishment, they happened to find out she was poisoned recently because external circumstances just happened to make testing her corpse necessary.
Sorry, this whole mini rant was just to say that this isn't really history repeating but the same story from 2 different points of view with incomplete source material.
@@TheMidnightstar2 yeah. But I think it's also because generally whatever goes on in the harem typically goes unrecorded. So scriptwriters take creative license as seen in these 2 series (which I think is fun and creative!!)
Unfortunately, both series have been officially removed by the Chinese censorship
@@TheMidnightstar2 the two series are indeed based on historical figures but filled in the gaps with fictional drama. The real life Ruyi cut her hair, but did she cut her hair because she was a raving loon, or did she cut it because she could no longer stand the Emperor and his neuroses? Ultimately this cause both dramas to be plot driven rather than character driven as the fates of some of the people involved is known so matter what happened, Ruyi will cut her hair, the first Empress will die, etc.
