Here's a solution for fitting that second cross member into place: Stand the cot on end, then position your foot on the end of the crossbar, while holding the cot on a slight angle to elevate the second crossbar up off the ground, then just guide it into place on the frame, using your foot and leg muscle to position the crossbar into place. Your legs are roughly five times stronger, and this makes it a lot easier. I hope that description makes sense.

I like that you show yourself getting on the sleeping pads/cots in your videos and laying on them. Most ppl just cut to being on the pad/cot. I like seeing how difficult or easy it is to get on or off. Kudos.
I recently picked one up based on this review. My only addition to this is add 4 more tennis balls one for each end of the side bars. Both for the sides of the tent and your shins when you inevitably hit your shin on one late at night.
Great video and the tennis ball tip is genius. We have a Kodiak tent and though the floor is sturdier than our Core dome tent, the tennis balls on legs of anything in the tent would provide greater peace of mind. Thanks for video!

You can use a screwdriver for a lever to pop the last one in place. I 2 Teton the XXL that you put their tent on top (tent cot) and the Adventurer, love how comfortable they are and you can get those with the lever built in. I also have the Teton Somnia because that’s built to fit on the bed of a truck but it also fits in my small tents, personally I would still recommend a pad to stay warm unless you’re camping in a hot climate and honestly at 63 I want a bit of comfort since I go for several weeks.
I agree we usually use the therarest basecamp mats in colder conditions or the nemo tensor 25 for added support and comfort. Sometimes it works good with just a closed cell foam pad on it as well.
Reading all the comments, it's a shame no one commented on how to properly assemble the cot, and muscling the second cross bar is not the correct way. Stand the cot up on the last cross bar after mating the first mounting hole then step on the cross bar and lever the length of the cot up onto the cross bar, just like you would an Army cot that assembles the same way.
The tennis balls have stayed on ever since I put them on. I fold it up and put it back in the bag and leave the balls stick put the top. Tent saver trick for sure!
Pick up some "Reusable Fastening Cable Straps" from Amazon. One or 2 on that bad boy should help get it in the bag. Less than $10. Great video. Thanks much. I'm sold on this baby.

My first one from Amazon came broken 12 hrs before my last trip for the year. Had to use the old air mattress. That said the replacement is working great. I've noticed it's much easier to setup after the first few go arounds. Just sad to use it in my basement and not in the wilderness.
"The colder it gets, the more the metal reacts to the cold". With temps in the teens my fingers react to the cold not the metal and everything gets more difficult to do.

thx for review. i do really like Coleman products. my fav tent is a Coleman bathtub bottom tent. BUt im trying to figure out why this cot is so cheap in price. the reviews are decent minus the assembly. seems sturdy, but price is so cheap compared to other similar cots. i wish a little lighter, but....
It's heavy but yes it's a lot cheaper than competitors, even years ago when I bought it and did this video. Heavier than some but coleman has the brand recognition to keep costs down.
If you can do it, why can't I? I weigh 215 and have at least average strength for a man. I finally had to get a pry bar. A screw driver bent, and I tried standing on it as explained below (there's also a video demonstrating this). Once I got the cross bar pried on, I could see that both bars were bowing. Must be a defective cot.
Honestly this thing is an SOB when it comes to getting it set up. I have pretty strong arms, I am an occupational therapist who treats shoulder injuries by trade so I do a lot of arm exercises daily with my patients. I have above average upper body strength for my size. The bars shouldn't be bowing though!

I just got one today and I can’t get the cross beam on. I’m an older person and I don’t have a lot of upper body strength. Wish I had known this before. Guess it goes back to Amazon
I'm not sure of that but the cot is 35 inches wide and the legs are mounted inside the frame so they are probably 28 inches apart or so at their most narrow position.

Thanks for the review! I bought this for naps/rest during long work shifts. If you have a luggage scale could you weigh the cot? I'm convinced it's well over 20 lbs comparing it side by side with the ozark trail folding cot.
Oh I would imagine youcould weigh it on a scale for sure. The about this about this cot is that it is very heavy. Sturdy but heavy. Great cot though even with it's weight.

That makes sense too. This cot is very difficult to put together in the winter. It can be done with some extra effort but it's tough.

I think when ours were new there was a bit of a middle arch but it flattens out when you lay on it.

No, it will loosen and give a bit too with time which is good.

No that has never happened to me. Has it happened to you! Once they are on they are very snuggly secured.

Missed the max length by an inch. I'm 6'3" any other recommendations? This cot is very similar to the teton.
I think Teton outdoors make an xl cot that I've heard is good for taller folks. I'm so short I don't know too much about gear for tall people.

how far away are the legs? trying to see if I can place a PLANO sportsman underneath (37.25" long)

Not in a tent that small I doubt. I know my 3p is not tall enough for it to fit in. I have a 4p it will fit in just the one cot though.
