Because of your recommendations we went to Kawama and had a great stay in 1101, Met lots of nice people. Brought snacks and sauces that made a difference. Food was good for Cuba. Met John And Pattie who went on your recommendations also. Will go again.
Michael, to give you a little context…I’ve being going to Cuba since the early 80’s when transportation was a retired TTC bus. This by far was one of the most honest and entertaining videos I have watched….thanks for sharing and putting a smile on my wife and I today!
I thank you for your comment and wish you happy, fun holidays. I go here because it's what I can afford and this resort is all close to the ocean. After a few years at this place it seems more like having my own cottage in Cuba.
This is far more food and choices than when I stayed at Kawama back in February. Rice, peas and cabbage, and scrambled eggs were all there was in the buffet restaurant. The Rosolini acting as a snack bar served delicious omelets. Even with the food shortage a few months ago, it was far, far better than back in the days.....1989. You were lucky to get one boiled egg and bread for breakfast. As usual, a great video. We will be back.
Все верно... Когда я была в каваме кормили хуже чем показано здесь!!! Все равно скучаю... Океан чудо света!!!!! Один минус рецепшен с дамочками готовых оборать до нитки....
I last went to kawama in 2020 right before shutdown. I was a little afraid after I booked for January but thanks. I expect it to be like you show. It's cuba... ill be glad to be a returner .
I expect the food will be a little better during foreign tourist season. I have over 20 videos on TH-cam of this place including my first visit in 2007. You can see the food used to be better before the current economic hard times.
@@DownMichael yeah I figured it might pick up in January. Won't have expectations regardless I'm there for the beach. Also I like being on the avenue as opposed to memories that you gotta taxi to go out. I watched your videos last year but I couldn't travel due to mandates. So now I'm taking what I get!!! Thanks for the vids it's nice to have someone update us on the situation. Thanks!
Good morning Michael, we have been thoroughly enjoying your videos on Club Kawama, is it possible to send you a message with a few general questions we have?
I have not seen any video reviews of this place with plenty of info until this video, I just came back at the end of September from Varadero and stayed at the Valentin El Patriarca which had good and bad points. This resort seems like a week vacation is good enough, but the food looks pretty good for a smaller resort.
Patriarca is a higher starred resort with newer buildings and therefore everything is in superior condition. Kawama is the oldest resort in Varadero but has the most repeaters of any resort in Cuba. People who have gotten used to Cuba and it's shortages and come back for the savings and the people. A Cuban 3 star requires experienced travellers to bring a few things they love to perk up their salads or spices for other foods.
Memories! Stayed 3 times in the last 4 years at Kawama Club. Normal stay at the Starfish Cuatro Palms, across from Club 62. When it's a spur of the moment and the prices is right, you can't beat the price of Kawama. The beach is great and the draughts on tap is all I need! 🍻 Stay last November for 3 weeks at Barcelo solymar, in the bungalow suites, the main building was closed for renovations. The shared property with it's sister hotel was near empty, but come every Friday at 10:30 a.m. the Cuban locals showed up in the bus loads! The restaurants you had to seat early for the selection. I never seen plates so stacked with food!! The bars went from walk up to 25 minutes wait times. Come Monday, noontime, the place was empty again. Hopefully things will pickup, and the tourists will return, it was sad seeing how Varadaro was a ghost town.
I can understand that Cubans deserve some fun to. And when business has been so slow they are needed just to keep the doors open and the wheels greased.
They appear to have a website at the moment. I just tried before answering your question. I left a request for contact. We'll see if I get an answer. I book by checking for the lowest prices on last minute travel sites such as tripcentral.ca (I like their format) or selloffvacations.com . All offer the same prices. Then I book through PC Travel because I get PC points.
Question for ya : should I worry about my room or will it be OK as a returner?? Last time I had room 2310 and it was not bad. Do you request rooms or are they fairly good at rooms for returners?
The PR lady, Leida has always catered to repeaters but the current manager does not and being ex military he's the boss. I usually get the same room but didn't this trip as mentioned on this video. It was still a great room. Do you have any contacts at the hotel?
Your detailed video's are the reason I went to Kawama for Canada Day this year. They had a very hard time with food supply. Hope it's better for the staff now. Do you know of a little gold dog? Is it still there?
There was a dog that looked like your description wondering about. It looked well fed. I believe the Cuban resorts have more limited resources than the foreign run ones. I also would guess that they spend a little more catering the food to foreign tourists during the winter season than the Cubans who are the majority of their summer guests.
I've been going to Cuba since 1988.. Holy COW! Your videos show a very different experience than the one I had in June. No food, no music and very aggressive cuban tourists screaming at the wonderful staff...The ocean view room and the little dog where the highlights of the trip. I brought Sunglasses and hats for the men and scrunchies plus 200 tampons for the women. I'd recommend Pringle potato chips for snacks as they charged me $10 for them at the store. Thankyou for your reply and Viva Cuba.
@@luludugood7683 I think a lot of the Cuban tourists are the ones who are getting remittances from American relatives and the Cuban government is trying to get this foreign currency from them by filling the Cuban resorts with Cubans during the offseason. So they get a cheaper rate then foreign tourists and take as much advantage as they can while there and fill their bags with food. Cuba needs help now more than ever as Biden hasn't lifted the 200 new Trump sanctions or Trump's declaration of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism which prevents many foreign businesses from being able to do business with Cuba.
@@DownMichael The embargo may change with the new US senate. What you say about the Cuban tourists makes so much sense. Thankyou for the clarification.
By accident come to know your videos, some health issues with my husband since he is OK we plan to go to Cuba, nice videos thanks
Good to see different food and also good to see the beach bar is open. this looks FAR BETTER than it did when i was there a few months back.

Does the Hotel have a website? also how much does it cost per night? Thanks for the vid

@@DownMichael did they get rid of the returners meal?
@@elixis2847 They usually still have it though honestly I don't care as I meet them all anyway and dinner goes faster at a regular a la carte seating.
@@elixis2847 Leida is still there and she is the only reason the manager still allows some repeater benefits but he's giving her a hard time over it.
Did you change any money this trip? What exchange did you get and with a person or bank? Thanks!
90 Cuban pesos per dollar at the bank maybe 100 on the street. They all want foreign currency.
Lmao!Laying in my bed drunk.
