      fthechance can you demonstrate the ability to comprehend what words like communism, socialism, republic, democracy, actually mean? Any sources or evidence to back up your labeling Scahill as a Communist? If I call you a programmed racist bigoted statist Trumptard it holds no weight without proof.

    Dear VICE;
    This is the first one of your podcasts I have watched. I accept that the framing of some of your other videos isn't geared for me but this is GREAT. I hope the rest are as great.
    Also, they do not have to be political in nature, just good questions and open conversation between someone exceptionally knowledgeable and someone knowledgeable enough to further the conversation.
    Bravo to both of these gentleman.
    Powerful VICE.

    This interview is nothing but pure, unfettered, unadulterated logic. What he said at 6:50 in the video is what sold me. It's a great acknowledgement made by Jeremy that people on the left-side of the political spectrum who are very anti-war can also be quite brash and condescending when dealing with those opposed to their viewpoints. The whole problem is most people (on the left and right of the political spectrum) don't want objectivity. It's always easier to scapegoat others than to critically examine oneself. Yes, the rich and powerful elites definitely have a lot of blood on their hands, but us members of society who work for their corporations, buy their products, sit silently while watching TH-cam are by our very actions tacitly condoning the subversion of our democratic rights and freedoms. For those reading this; yes, I include myself in this guilt.

    Unfortunately to much of the rest of the world the failure of US foreign policy is seen as a reflection of the collective ignorance of US citizens. As unless a gradual change of attitude is presented and seriously debated to challenge the current pathway the US will continue to stay on a path of self destruction. I'm glad that people like Jeremy Scahill exist and are courage enough to share a logical and unbiased perspective on the matter.

    very good interview, strange it came from reihan salam who is editor of the national review and who advocated for the Iraq war, is a libertarian or fiscal conservative so quite a contrast to the social justice/impartial human rights advocate of Jeremy scahill. regardless great interview. Jeremy Scahill one of the finest muckrakers of her time along with Dahr Jamail, Glenn Greenwald, Naomi Klein, Chris Hedges, Matt Taibbi, Max Blumenthal, Nafeez Ahmed, Jonathan Cook, and Chris Graham, all young I might add, who really are inspiring to a new generation of young people who want to dedicate their lives to real watchdog journalism and mythbusting that puts power into account.

    Finding the true power isn't necessarily important. If your government officials lack the power to do anything corrupt, then it doesn't matter how corrupt they wish to be. A truly libertarian nation need not fear its own government.

I agree with your post regarding the inability of people who adopt hard left right positions and are unable to look at issues logically if they do not sit within their left or right paradigm. He really brushes off the "better than bombs" question... I want to know about that. Is it a "better" practice? Are there more or less drone strikes than bombings from the US? Total collateral of both? Procedures to use both? Circumstances under which to use both? Are drones cutting back on bomb droppings? Should we even relate the two....

    The thing about Exceptionalism is that I expect from other countries. I expect other countries to say, "The lives of my civilians mean more to me than your civilians. My interest outweigh yours. I protect my own against you." If people saw things from that perspective, we'd have a different world.

      You can love your country, but hate the government. Not very hard. All countries are led by bad leaders from time to time. Do you think Raif Badawi hates Saudi Arabia? More likely he just hates the twisted government and hopes eventually Saudi Arabia will enter the modern age.

      harudossama in victimizing other citizens in other countries with our perpetual wars for the profiteers (defense contractors ) when evidence is ample wars are counter productive , we also become victims ourselves in USA when domestic social institutions are eroded . The beast of military industrial complex is enemy of the people .

  • @65ADORNO
    @65ADORNO 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    He fails to mention this is not a 'traditional' war with a 'traditional' enemy. I understand questioning why we are still in Afghanistan or Iraq. But If you are comparing apples to apples, our enemies would love to kill as many of us as possible, their number one goal is collateral damage, so consequently in our efforts to erase these people, there is also collateral damage. And they often make themselves targets where that is not only unavoidable, but a strategy. War has changed. New reality.

    I just pointed out that your reasoning for why one must support civilian bombs, tanks, etc. if they support civilian firearms was a non sequitur. I don't think you realize that that argument isn't sound because you just used it again. My position is that civilians should be able to lawfully possess small arms (rifles, handguns, and shotguns) through a reasonable process. If you have a sound argument for why I am a hypocrite for not wanting bombs to be acquirable the same way I will listen.

  • @MrTyler918273

    A gun is a tool by definition. Merriam Webster: tool; a handheld device that aids in accomplishing a task; something (as an instrument or apparatus) used in performing an operation or necessary in the practice of a vocation or profession. What else would it be? I often hear people say that a gun is not a tool but rather a weapon as if they are mutually exclusive, which is obviously incorrect. A weapon is always a tool.

    youngturks is more opinion based, I think "free" and "true" media and reporting would be something that's completely unbiased and down to the details, no skewing of information and data either, with actual reporting and less debating, and RT has some people I don't like because they let emotion get in their way of reporting, such as Abby Martin, nonetheless, they're the best I can find.
