This man's body of work in SciFi is second to none! Revelation Space, House of Suns, Merlin's Gun helped me tide through depression and reinvigorate my love for the immensity of space. Few people recognize how amazing his work is, and it is genuinely saddening..
I concur, Ali. Mr. Reynolds has become one of my favourite contemporary writers, science fiction or otherwise. He's a down-to-earth, thoughtful and very professional writer.
been reading AR since 2005, when i first pciked up Chasm City. I have loved scifi since then and reread his work many times. Hope he sees this maybe and realises how much he is appreciated :)
I am in the middle of reading "Pushing Ice" and I have to completely disagree. Without using the crutch of telling us the ending at the beginning, the book falls apart. He has to force success upon the captain. While she makes error after error. Destroying her friendship and undermining her own authority. Yet she succeeds? The plot armor is too thick.

It's poetic, with a touch of sacred on it, all that wrapped in an amazing science fiction story, it isn't just something about space, theres meaning behind, theres purpose, theres something bigger than spaceships, planets and stars, and even tough, all this things gain a bigger meaning in the story. Very glad to hear this gentleman speak, and to discover the large body of his work. I look forward to exploring the cosmos of his imagination. BTW, has his first name been misspelled? According to wikipedia, it probably has.
You really should consider giving it another shot, especially chasm city (the second book) was amazing for me. The third book deals more detailed with the things mentioned in the video. The question of where everybody is.
Unfortunately we have to deal with inhibitors right here on earth. We've had to start all over again after religious fundamentalism, as much as 2000 years backwards. Look up the anti Kythera mechanism, we were far more advanced than we know.
How cool would it be if Alistair wrote a novel about The Dawn War and the origins of the Inhibitors? Those terrifying bastards are so fascinating to me.
I know! I loved the little snippets we got in Redemption Ark. If he does, I'm buying it immediately. I discovered his books less than a year ago and I wish I'd discovered them sooner. My first book of his was Pushing Ice if you're wondering.
This dudes books need to be movies yesterday. Start with sunstealer or whatever it’s called. I can’t think, he just blew my mind, like I knew he would. ❤🐝🐝

If the expanse is so great that hubble for 6 months can only document a small, small, small fraction of the expanse, why are we so convinced that we would have "seen" evidence of a civilization.

how do we know that the Deep Space picture from the Hubble is the earliest image of our universe? What if those planets formed after billions of years, and we just weren't here to witness the disappearance of a multi-billion years bunch of other galaxies, that have been replaced by these new ones. I think we will just never know. It's preposterous to think that by looking at a picture we can actually decipher the age of the universe. We will never what was before we entered the picture.
He couldn't have found something more appropriate to wear? Oh, and it's amusing he just blatantly states falsities as if they were proven fact. It's 100% conjecture at best that we evolved from Paranthropus Bosei. Then he end's by quoting Segan saying we have some "delusional privileged position in the universe'(Which is exactly what we have!) But I dang do I love his Science FICTION.
What a deep comeback, I don't know some how some foreign name is spelled..cling to your silly retorts. And look up "Delusional" since you obviously don't know the meaning.
Reynolds is my favorite Science Fiction author. He's just too good.
Preach it. :-) 8-)
MIne as well!
He is incredible!! Not just sci-fi but the depth of his works makes him hold his own against any author in any genre - at least in my view.
So good. I am trying to prolong the reading of Bone Silence as much as possible because I want it to last longer

Do u know any similar works?
What a lovely human being. I love him and his work all the more after watching this
Thank you for being awesome.
Dear Alastair, thank you for putting my little earthly happenings in perspective.
Never mind how great a writer he is, we all know that. the speech was wonderful.
Awesome talk, wish I had seen this years ago. Nice to see and hear the person behind some of my favorite sci fi.

Sounds like his mic wasn't working, so another room mic channel was turned up to make the upload. I have no actual idea though.

I think we need to crowd source a fund to make this man's books into a movie.
Who's with me?
Something like The Inhibitors really might be out there and arguably necessary
When the Andromeda galaxy will hit the milky way it won't be that bad though, at least not as bad as the inhibitors think
