I could watch streams of Deigo labbing stuff all day, he has a talent for simplifying fighting game concepts in simple easy to understand ways. Like I think he has a very zen way he thinks about fighting games that is more about executable components, then the actual complexity those components create. Which imo is a really good way to tackle thinking about them, like worry about the stuff you can control instead of option paralysis.
I think that's more a result of his years of expertise, the fact he can condense his insights and thoughts into easily understood concepts speaks to his true capabilities and depth of knowledge.
I agree, but he has 3 crazy buffs that make him super dangerous tbh. The fast hadouken, juggled dp that can be canceled into many things, and the frking vt2 ca cancellation is crazy damage .. ryu can literally kill akuma in 2 combos with no need to stun.
Matches are won and lost mostly on neutral. If a character has weak neutral, no amount of small buffs to their combos are going to help unless they're very drastic.
Ryu's biggest issue is his weak normals compared to other characters. I agree with Daigo that Ryu got buffed good, but those buffs are not what he essentially need to be tournament-worthy character.

i'm only a little bit of an SF player mostly tekken, does anyone know if daigo is missing out on key links/combos? the trailer had some real marvel esque combos but it looked like he was doing basic shit into VS cancels. not doubting daigo i just know how easy it is to gloss over that ONE link that connects it all. can anyone enlighten me?
Daigo was just testing the new links in particular. He was not really going for combos. The reason he said those new combos are not helpful is the damage scaling is so bad that you are basically burning high resources for almost no return. They basically just style combos.
And just like that, any chance of SFV being hype again is gone. Tokido left Urien for Luke instead of Akuma, Zangief got shadow nerfed/bugged, and now this. If Momochi isn't still full time Ken it's over.
Hold up lemme fix this quote for ya. "That was a thing in season 1." Cause I'm pretty sure they took that away from him in season 2 or 3. Or even took it away from him during the beta.

After the buffs, this is possibly the strongest interation of Ryu in SFV. However, at this point, I think Daigo just doesn't want to invest his time trying lab Ryu and explore his potential. Considering that SFV's competitive support is nearing its end, it's simply too late to try to adapt his playstyle with Ryu, he's just too comfortable playing Guile.
+number = however many frames you get to act before your opponent after hitting them. -number = your opponent will get to act first if you hit them, only happens when they block something. Moves that are + on block are obviously very useful because they're safe pokes.
guys, you need to understand that Ryu is a bad character. Giving combos is not how you buff a character, you need to give tools to exceed in the neutral game, tools to create mixups. Ryu is still the same, mediocre, an all around character for beginners who can't excel against the other chars in the roster, obviously. He has good tools but most of them get shutdown against other characters in the list, therefore Ryu can't play his own game.

Yeah, these buffs seem good once Ryu hits people the problem is hitting people. The best buffs is Ldp juggle, faster fireball and being able to link all your mediums on counter hit
No you're just caught up in the hype. Once the dust settles you'll realize that the game is still the same old bore with fewer interesting characters this time because of the nerfs.

You can do anti-air light dp> EX fireball but it does less damage than ex dp so there’s no point
But I think you can use that in combos where you end up getting late connect with light DP.
You also can do L.DP into L.Jodan which outdamages H.DP.
Plus EX Fireball followup actually has good oki unlike EX DP
Ex dp has less corner carry and way less oki so it's still useful
