    My aunt from Lytham attended the open auction of his stuff from that house . Everything was sold from his Rolls Royce cars to the lightbulbs in the ceilings . My Aunty got an ornamental planter made of concrete from the sale , extremely Decorative and heavy when you try to move it . Apparently thousands of people went through the door to view his sale.

    Lovely to see and hear you again Stephen. You gave the game away with your comment about the knitted 'Crown' on the Post Box. As you said it would last about 5 minutes in Blackpool. Knitted hats on PO boxes. A beautiful, simple, kind, vision of the UK and our humour. However, a picture like this, distributed globally, shows the rapidly disappearing UK. Close your eyes, imagine whose head it would be on, it being thrown around the pub, then where it would end up..... Certain areas, such as this are British, with British values, humour, honesty, decency and safety. Yet a seaside location, with a name so synonymous as 'British' and just down the road from this, "It would last about five minutes". I cry at what we are losing or just giving away.

      There are similar hats on postboxes in Whalley and Billington too.

    Joseph Locke was a massive star and played a record 19 summer seasons in a row in Blackpool. He became known as Mr Blackpool and his extraordinary life is told in the film “Hear My Song”. George bought the house from him and at the time was earning an extraordinary 35K a film. Todays equivalent of that is around 1.5 million pounds. Considering George made 20 movies between 1934 and 1946 he probably didn’t struggle to buy it.

    Back in the 1930's as a teenager my Mother walked a number of dogs out on the sands. She would stop at different peoples houses and by the time she was at the beach she a had a little pack. One time a black Scottie took up with them going along for the walk. After the walk was over she still had the little terrier and read on it's collar tag that it was George Formby's dog, so she took it back to his house knocked on the door and gave it to someone who answered the door. I dont know if it was Mr Formby. Thanks Stephen for showing his house it was great to finally see it!

    Stephen this has brought back memories. As a child my mother and father took us to a hotel which I think was close by the white church. It was called “ The Northern Lantern” and was run by the British Polio Fellowship. I believe a Mr and Mrs Sadler ran it? My father was polio disabled and the Northern Lantern was adapted for use by disabled people. We used to go to Fairhaven Lake and go on the boats there. I remember there used to be a speedboat you could go on which was a real treat for a young child!! Thanks for this video it has triggered such happy memories of childhood days.

    Thanks for the tour. I used to visit a relative in care, in the area. Spent many a winter's night waiting for the train on the station, to go onto Preston & then on to Wigan. It was a case of visiting a rich, clean lovely area and returning home to a poor, dirty , somewhat depressing area. The people are warm & wonderful in Wigan, so that compensates.

Wherever there is a shelter near a pub, there is always the lovely smell of pee 😂🤣😅 & that house is gorgeous 😍 imagine sitting out on that balcony 1st thing in the morning in the summer with your coffee ☕️ 😀 😍

    • @richardjones8699
      @richardjones8699 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately, appearances can be deceptive. While not anywhere near as bad as Blackpool come night time Lytham St.Annes does suffer from antisocial behaviour, problem drinking and drug issues. It may be sleepy and pensioner centric during the day but certainly changes character at night.

    • @markyh88
      @markyh88 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@richardjones8699 I live in St Anne's and I have to say it's not bad at all in comparison to Blackpool. I haven't found any problems with antisocial behaviour personally.
      I lived in Blackpool most of my life but St. Anne's is by far a better area.
      I did also live in South London for a while, and there's way more of a problem with antisocial behaviour there than St. Anne's but the big difference is you pay a ridiculous premium for living in London even with the local social issues.
      I feel fairly lucky to live in St. Anne's it's a much nicer spot than many other places and not over priced :)

    • @richardjones8699
      @richardjones8699 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@markyh88 Blackpool and London will make most places look extremely good in terms of anti-social behaviour to be fair. However, Lytham St.Annes does have its fair share (certainly after dark when the whole character of the area changes). Case in point, last time I was out in St.Annes specifically in the evening I witnessed drunk people urinating in the street, fights and open drug taking and dealing. It's less than Blackpool (virtually all places are) but it's certainly there. In a similar sense I have a friend who does volunteer work helping the homeless in St.Annes. She's always telling me people believe the town doesn't have a homeless problem. Unfortunately, it most certainly does.
