Awesome! Mr GA! Phenomenal work! Unparalleled and packed full of information detailing this beautifully spectacular region. Once again you’re amazing! I bet dealing with all the traffic and population masses you’re reaffirming the serenity balance of the wide open areas of the west….if that makes sense. Just curious if you have maintained a log or budget on campsites, fuel, or food, etc for this trip. If yes, would you be willing to share? This has been a Grand Adventure loop. Amazing! Thank you again!
Thank you very much, bud! Your generosity is sincerely appreciated. Yes, your comment makes perfect sense. I'm reminded of why we moved west back in January 2005, and I still kick myself for not doing it sooner. As much as we're enjoying seeing some very familiar areas from our past this season, I could never move back. I just couldn't. I'm not keeping an actual log per se, but I intend to go back at the end of the season and actually calculate costs. They won't include food as that's a highly variable expense that we'd incur regardless of travel, but things like fuel, campground fees, etc. I intend to analyze and share.
This was a wonderful video. I live in the Plymouth area - NW side near the airport - and this video gave me new appreciation for the beauty of my home. The wife and I just watched and we were both captivated with the cinematography and the effort that went into this production.
Not only an excellent narration but epic photography! I truly admire the devoted time and effort you put into your Grand Adventures! I learned so much history even after my exploration of the area especially P-town years ago. Thank you, Marc. The episodes are always great but this one was epic!
Been to Plymouth and Cape Cod many times, amazing places minus the slow-moving traffic during the summer months, I'm looking forward to the next weeks video when you visit my home state of Rhode Island.
We look forward to bringing you that Newport episode next week, Dan. The following week's episode from Southeastern Connecticut, where I actually grew up, will also include a Rhode Island segment from Watch Hill where my family spent our summer beach days when I was a kid.
Wow! Just wow. I live in Massachusetts and have been to the Cape about a hundred times and you have shown me some things I never knew were there! Excellent coverage of the cape for being there only a week! I'm looking forward to Newport!
Just love this Grand Adventure community. I missed the premier, but enjoyed reading the chat while I watch the video tonight. Never too long and a perfect amount of information given. All of it was fantastic. Just makes me want to go back and visit the area again. Thanks!
Interesting area...Very much does seem like the places the high and mighty would hang out at ...I think i would enjoy seeing the little town of Provincetown...Imagine the food and drink in the area is a treat also....Looking forward to seeing /hearing about the little dog episode thing you mentioned last week...Travel safe, stay well...
Thanks for watching, as always! If you think this seems like a place for the high & mighty, wait until you see Newport, RI next week. The dog fiasco will air the following week. Safe travels to you as well!
What a great overview of the area, I love the Cape but it’s not really rv friendly. What I mean by that is it is very congested and hard to get around in the small towns but definitely worth the hassle, lol. I’m from Western , Mass and I love kayaking and fishing in the Brewster area. It’s great fun and there is so much to see and do at the Cape. Thanks for the vid Marc! 😊
Our pleasure, Filomena. You're correct about the Cape not being very RV friendly -- especially those narrow lanes on the Bourne and Sagamore Bridges! I wasn't very happy with those even without the trailer. But after many decades for us, it was good to be back for a visit.
My wife and I spent a week camping in Provincetown a couple of springs ago. Early June was a great time to visit. Weather was excellent, crowds were not at mid summer level, and we had a great time. You have reminded me how beautiful it is, thus we need to get back there soon. continued safe travels...
Good video; I’ve never been to some of those parts of the cape. Plymouth Plantation, as it used to be known, seems smaller than when I was a kid (as do most things when you see them as an adult). The P-town monument seems every bit as high. I still remember climbing those stairs in 90 degree humidity. It would probably kill me now, LOL
@@OdysseyCamper thanks bud! Last time I was in Provincetown (around 34 years ago) we did indeed climb those stairs. I opted for a different perspective this time.
Thanks for the tour Marc. I was born in Bourne, a small town in Buzzards Bay while my dad was stationed at Otis AFB. Haven't been back in quite a while, so it was good to see actual footage of the area again.
The Plymouth Colony is pretty cool. The people playing the parts are super versed in the character rolls they are playing. The beaches are beautiful but so expensive! Did you happen to see the National Monument to the Forefathers? It is in Pilgrim National State Park. The food always looks so good. 😋 Nice video. Ram 👍🏼👍🏾
We didn't get to the State Park, Ram. Being centrally located between the Plymouth area and the Cape, we almost had too much to see and do at this stop for one week. The beach parking rates are nuts. OK, so I could maybe justify it if I were going to the beach all day, but paying $25-35 to park there if I'm only taking a walk, or otherwise maybe staying only 30 minutes or so, breaks the wallet. Especially if you want to visit more than one.
Thanks for the great review of the area. You are very familiar with the terrain and seemed to know exactly what you wanted to cover. And you covered a voluminous selection of places... and I enjoyed every bit of it. What an incredible season so far, Marc. I had no idea there was a canal across the Cape. Evidently I never paid attention when I was younger. 🙄 Gord
Thank you Gord! What I found fascinating about the Canal is that it was contemplated as early as 1623. Can you imagine the scale of such an undertaking back then? That would've taken a generation to complete with the tools of the era. The USACOE runs a free welcome center/museum for the Canal, but with so much else to cover that week we simply ran out of time to include it. Having grown up somewhat nearby, I had memories of certain places and things that I wanted to go back to remember and film.
@@GrandAdventure Thanks Marc. I figured you were covering things you remember from years past. The last time I was there was in 1967... 57 years ago. Even back then there was traffic out to P-Town, but not like today. Did you work during this time or did you plan some of your vacation days that week, in order to see everything? Yeah, you covered allot in this episode. Thanks... 👍 Gord
@@gorrdd nope, I kept the work fires burning all week. I typically work until late afternoon midweek and then film until dark midweek, plus on Saturday. For example, what you didn't see is that the Outer Cape segments were filmed actually over several days, necessitating multiple trips out there.
@@GrandAdventure That's allot of time swimming in traffic, Marc. Based on what you shared about the canal being planned so early, the museum would have shed much light on how it was accomplished. Gord
@@gorrdd I agree, and I'm bummed that we ran out of time to see it. It's not the only thing we left on the table, either. Such is the way of trying to work filming into a full-time job's schedule, unplanned weather delays, etc. It's something we struggle with every week.
Looking forward to the Newport episode. My 5X great grandfather came to America in 1780 & disembarked in Newport as a part of Rochambeau’s forces, Lauzuns Legion, Deux Ponts Regiment of the French contingent in the Revolutionary War. He finished up opposite of Cornwallis & Tarleton at Yorktown & decided to stay in America until he reached his final resting place in a small family cemetery on a hillside in eastern Kentucky.
Great job covering the cape. Did you see the canal when the tide was changing? The current is really fast. More great light houses like The Point Judith Lighthouse. Another good place is Matunuck Oyster Bar and there is always Mariner Grille and waiting line at Iggy's Doughboys & Chowder House. Any questions about the area let me know. Are you going to tour the mansions' like The Breakers?
Great tips, thanks Bill. We were actually in Newport two weeks ago. Our videos currently lag real time by 3 weeks for editing, post-production, etc., and we're currently down in southern NJ. I do love the Galilee/Point Judith area, but with only one minor exception we focused next week's episode on Aquidneck and Conanicut Islands. With only one full week spent in each destination, we have to be careful how broadly we cast a net. We filmed and will share mansion exteriors, including The Breakers. The Preservation Society's rules, however, forbid us from filming the interiors.
