    those are ricecake balls (ddeok comes in all shapes and texture) in the red bean porridge. also fyi, some ppl may or may not be offended by calling the fishcakes odeng rather than eomok. eomok is the korean term, odeng the japanese term remnants from the japanese invasion when they tried to abolish all use of korean language. so some older ppl may feel bitter towards use of that term, not so much with the younger generation.

      what an interesting fact!

    • @user-ns2ff9bw6x
      @user-ns2ff9bw6x 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      more specific, eomok is just fishcakes but edeng is a food made out of fishcakes and some other ingredients.
      odeng did come from japanese word oden[御田] and National Institute of Korean Language recommend using 어묵꼬치 (which is like fishcake skewer) instead of odeng but i never saw a single article, politician or ordinary person using fishcake skewer instead of odeng

    That chewy ball is called "saeal" or "saealsim". It is a kind of rice cake and made of glutinous rice flour. We usually put it in the seaweedsoup, pumkin porridge and red bean rice porridge.

    I have tried samgyeopsal, but I haven't grill the kimchi, next time I will do it no matter what! Thanks for the tip.
    I love to put some rice in the wrap, and doenjang paste and danmuji to add a little bit of sweetness...It's so delicious, with fried tofu or any banchan...So if you haven't tried yet, I hardly recommend it to you ❤️❤️❤️ Korean food it's my favorite food ever ❤️❤️❤️ it's a shame that in my country i can't get eomuk soup, I will love to try that .

    The food is amazing. From this video i know about Red Bean porridge as a dessert its seem like Indonesian black sticky rice porridge' with coconut milk
    I every tasted kimchi but it really sour and salty..i don't know if the kimchi u tasted better

    • @mintyfresh4855
      @mintyfresh4855 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      kimchi is an acquired taste. In fact, kimchi is best introduced to new eaters by frying them in the pan. Frying kimchi broadens the flavor profile of kimchi making it incredibly delicious and savory for most people. Eating it raw takes some time for some people. I'm Korean and it took me 12 years to love kimchi ( I was picky back in my childhood).

    • @echa3132
      @echa3132 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      that red bean porridge is supposed to be savory, not sweet. Not a dessert but a kind of traditional healthy food. The “balls” are cooked sticky sweet ricecakes.
      Normally eaten during Moon Festival. There is a sweet version of this red bean porridge but it doesn’t have rice nor the sweet rice balls in it and it’s very thick almost like paste which is a popular filler for pastries and traditional rice cakes called ttok.

    Just a personal observation based on the food travellers who are really popular like Mark Wiens, Trevor James and Sonny.
    What made them stand out from the tons of other contents out on the platform was that they built an identity with their viewers and subscribers. Something the viewers could watch and go: oh that’s so him.
    With you I feel like you are a little more passive and less charismatic, so I just think it would be helpful if you could target something niche/or forge an identity with your viewers in order to grow your channel.
    Don’t get me wrong, I can see all the hard work and effort you put into all this content and I do think you are a great guy. But ultimately, the difference between your videos and the rest of them is how excited I am to watch theirs as soon as I know it’s out.
    All the best!

    Hi Luke and Sabrina! Great video! I agree that the last place you ate BBQ would be my favorite too. I actually have never tasted Kim-chi before, but I know I would like it. I am going to have to make it and set a griddle with that angle. Thank you both. Have a safe trip wherever you go. God bless.
