Fishing AT Monknash on the South Wales coast 1/5/24 - An unexpected outcome to a day on the beach

  • I fish Monknash , which is a beach between Ogmore By Sea and Nash point on Wednesday 1/5/24
Monknash is a beach backed by cliffs and a large pebble bank. The beach is a big expanse of sand at low tide
Typically rays, smoothounds, dogfish and congers can be caught here at this time of year
I use pulley rigs and loop rigs with a range of baits and fish the tide to low (3.5 m Barry) and 2 hrs of the flood. Typically you should easily be able to fish down/up 3-4 hrs . You need to watch the tide position here to prevent being cut off by the rising tide
Parking is at the beach carpark local to a farm , £3 charge. It is a walk of about 1.1 km on road / path to the beach. Access to the beach is over large boulders and rock ledges - Not a mark for the unfit / unfirm. I fished about 2.3 km in total from the car park

Almost 6 minutes in and not a line wet yet. God this guy loves the sound of his own voice. I can't be bothered with anymore of this.

It's a very scenic venue, I'm not rushing back - prefer Nash point (Macross) down the coast

Lovely venue Monknash but as you know the walks not for the faint hearted.
Can be a brilliant Ray beach when it switches on.
    Thanks for sharing

Great video. Thank you. Rest up. I feel your pain...my son has taken mi tfy.....I have the same rib issue...I've been fishing the Bristol channel for 45 years now...the cod have vanished and my last few trips have been disappointing.. Roll on September.. .hopefully the Codling may reappear. Sometimes we have to keep trying . The results will follow.

This channel should be monetised through a holding company linked to the the reverend lemon. A chiselled jaw like yours needs a bigger audience. We may try speeding the video up to explore our amour. With some input from a story telling consultant you could achieve big things. It's all about leadership. Xxx

Thanks for watching Nick. Great to know that You, Timmy and the Rev can take time from your world tour schedule to help out an old chap like me. I've heard that Kempo might offer his services to both story telling and production and daisy on the management front - It comes down to cash injection and whether you can persuade your fanbase to subscribe. Let's meet up on your yacht to discuss terms and Bonsai over a Jamesons xxx

Sorry to hear about the injury fella, that path can be a tricky one in the wet.
As for the fishing, I've found that it fishes better on tides 11.5m+ (Cardiff scale).
There's a channel that runs along the beach where the fish hold up. Best session I've had included, dogs, pouting, blondes, small eyed and a surprise hound caught on Bluey.
Hope you get back to the beach soon! Tight lines.

Lots of the species are close inshore right now for one reason, Spawning. Come June then sport takes off with Carmarthen Bay, Burry port, Ferryside with clean estuary water All species can be found here like tope, stingrays and the chance of hooking a summer visitor, big sturgeon. Quite busy busy session when the weather is good so camp out with the van or pitch a tent.. Just at the end of the M4 motorway to Carmarthen. Be lucky bud. 😅😮

Hey there Alan, sorry to hear about your stumble, hope you’re taking it easy & are healing well. Another great vid all the same, shame there weren’t a few more fish about for you, but it is such a stunning place to be. Maybe a nice gentle bit of float fishing for wrasse or a pier venue to keep your hand in? Catch you out there matey 😎👍👍

If only it was more accessible. I have heart issues and diabetes 2 scouted the area years ago but would love to fish Margam beach, behind the steelworks but they've stopped selling access permits. Shame as it was free of surfers and jet skis. The ships breakwater is hot for massive conger along with the tope, bass, turbot and other species..... There's a railway line access with locked gates but parking nearby is dodgy, thieves, vandals etc 😢😢Stay safe bud 😊

Hope you heal fully soon mate - I really enjoy your videos. A question if you mind me asking. I've been using the dongle recently, but I'm not convinced ny the perfection loop. I've been toying with the idea of using split rings and I'm pretty sure I caught a glimpse of one of your circle hooks on a ring of some sort, do you mind me asking what you were using? Thanks in advance.

    • @fishingat
      @fishingat  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thanks for watching. I've yet to use a split ring on my dongle rigs. You can get them from Veals mail order , sizes 4-6 mm (as an example). If you look at the You tube channel for Mario Asprou , he uses them and explains how he does it - I think about 3 or 4 videos back from his current one . Good luck
