- Modern Family may have recently ended but that doesn't mean that we aren't missing our three favorite TV families. But what would you do if we told you that your favorite family sitcom could have looked a little different from the one that we all know and love?
On ten separate occasions, yes TEN, we almost had a completely different show. From switches in our much-loved cast members to storylines changing almost every season, it's rather surprising that we got the Modern Family version that we did.
So we thought we'd bring the show back to your screen and share which other famous celebrities were originally cast as Jay Pritchett and Phi Dunphy! It was great how they managed to hide her pregnancy in the first episode
I can't stand her. She is objectively a terrible actor. I don't know how it isn't so obvious to everyone. She nearly ruins the show. Everyone else is great though.

I appreciate that Matt LeBlanc recognized that it wasn't the role for him. A lot of actors get very cocky after years in the spotlight and feel like they could do any role that comes their way.
It's was a great decision since no one can play Phil like Ty Burrell.
And he got a better role in Friends

The extra-funny part about FIZBO is that this is a term for a home that is for sale by-owner (FSBO, sounds like fizbo). And since Phil is a realtor and is terrified of both Fizbo and FSBO, that's some accidental brilliance right there.

I remember being sad that cam & Mitch never displayed as much intimacy as the other characters, so glad that fans stood up for them!
How many times did Jay and Gloria kiss or have bedroom scenes? I can't think of any.

@@VioletJoy jay makes comments about gloria being sexy, gloria and jay are often running to their bedroom, claire and phil are shown naked in their beds, they have a recurring valentines episode where they roleplay and have sex. they definitely have more intimate scenes than mitch and cam
I don't think another show has ever made me laugh and cry as much as this one, so much of that is down to the perfect cast and their chemistry.
Phil Dunphy is my favorite character on the show and thanks to Ty Burrell for bringing the character to life
its very hard to choose a favorite character, coz I love Halle and her sibblings too. Plus there is Gloria, which is such a breakthrough character.

Don't know about anything else but I cannot think of modern family without Phil. My most favorite character. After Phil my fav character is Gloria.

@@VioletJoy Well I have seen her on Law & Order SVU, A Movie called "Jumping the Broom", & Modern Family. She seems okay to me. On the show she is VERY much like my own mother which I guess is pretty weird. Who would you like to see in the role of Claire? They considered Craig T. Nelson for Jay, I think he would have been just as good.

This cast was truly amazing, there's no other way to imagine Modern Family characters than the way that they were, perfect.
Fun fact: Matt LeBlanc was Ed O’Neil's (Jay Pritchett) daughter’s boyfriend, Vinnie on Married with Children. His character also had a short spin-off show.

These guys are what make the show. Sofia, Ed, Rico, Jeremy, Ty, Julie, Nolan, Sara, Ariel, Eric, Jesse, and Aubrey. The Modern Family. Why did they have to end it? The should make a second series.

I loved Andy and Haley! That would’ve been a better match than Dylan. But I do like Dylan a lot.
I think if the goal was to be all cute then yes Andy would have been good but the highlight of Haley's relationships was how dysfunctional they all were except with Andy.
I knew that she would end up with Dylan, because Haley represents the younger Claire and Dylan was in a way like the younger Phil. In a way the history had to repeat itself. But I loved Andy too. 🙂
@@dubistdaslicht9314 not at all lmao. Andy resembled Phil way more than Dylan did. He wanted to be a realtor, had the same interests and was a romantic and a goof just like Phil. Whereas Dylan was just an annoying idiot who only appeared every now and then to serve as comedic relief.
I may be one of the few fans of the shows - - that didn't care for Andy and Haley together. I am glad she didn't end up with Andy, Rainer, or Arvin. Loved her and Dylan. They could never totally let each other go, and Dylan truly adored Haley. Andy was a cheater -- once a cheater -- always a cheater. I didn't mind the actor or character being on the show - but I just don't understand the Andy love from fans. In the line of guest appearances - I would much rather see Phil's dad or Pepper.

Omg, so the Britney thing, who else thinks there was no scheduling conflicts. “Her team” basically said no to her. That’s what I think, considering they are controlling her and all.
I always pictured Elizabeth Banks playing Claire too. But she was great as Sal. I love this show but by the end of its run, some of the characters became annoying or obsolete by being repetitive. Season one is a stand out because everything is new and uncharted for the actors seeing they were still finding their footing. BUT I still watch it when on.

See that makes me wonder if they ever auditioned her for Claire and then remembered her for Sal, she’s great playing the “fun” version of Claire.

One of the best and awwdorable reveal was Fizbo! Eric nailed the sequences with his clown character... And I am happy to know it was his idea and producers and writers respected their decision.
The casting was great for this show. Every person fit their role perfectly but, I’ve gotta say, Ty Burrell is the greatest Phil Dunphy that ever could’ve existed.
The fact that Fizbo is real blew my mind.
What Ty Burrell not Phil Dunphy? Julie Bowen not Claire? It would have been a mistake. They're great. Around our home we quote Phil, Claire and Gloria a lot keeping us laughing. The chemistry between Ed O'Neil and Sofia Vergara is so good you forget they aren't really married.
Julie is a terrible actor. Not believable at all, especially as she's an over actor. I have to hold my nose when she's on screen. Everyone else is perfection.

Actually Joy and Monica were mean to be the main couple but the live audience fell in love with Monica and Chandler so they made them a couple and not Joey and Monica...

The network didn’t want Ty Burrell, but the creator of the show filmed a scene from the pilot with his own son and Ty and showed the network and then the network said they understood why the part was written for Ty.
Ty Burrell is the only reason I gave this show a chance. Grateful I did

Actually the first gay kiss on prime time was in the 90s on Melrose place by Doug Savants character
Unfortunately, though it would have been the first male gay kiss, Fox ended up cutting it because they feared backlash. OTOH, it wouldn't have been the first gay kiss, that honor goes to LA Law who featured the first gay kiss between two women in 1991. Now, the first male gay kiss happened in 2000 on that little show known as Dawson's Creek between the characters of Jack and Ethan, and then Jack went on to kiss a couple more guys as the series progressed.

I dont know whit you guys but i feel so emotional watching this. Emotional as the show is over. Emotional as I got too attached to everyone of them. One of the very few sitcoms which you could directly point out a leading role. Even in great sitcoms like himym or tbbt or even the office which had amazing casts, those had a clear leading role (Sheldon in tbbt, Barney in himym and Michael scott in the Office) but in Modern family, you really cannot picture it without any of the main roles, just like in Friends and Seinfeld.

Actually, Will kissed Jack on the original Will & Grace in 2000. They actually made a whole episode about never seeing two men kiss on network television and they were the first.
