Oh my god dude, finally this topic is addressed! I feel like noone is talking about (seemingly minor) topics such as this one, but they can be so confusing, especially when starting out with your style of playing. I remember putting a thumb pick on for the first time after about 7, 8 years of playing guitar and feeling like i just picked it up for the first time :) Awesome content as always Emil, this one is really appreciated!
Thank you so much Stefan for the positive feedback!! Yes I agree! Surprising that so few guitarists talk about this topic! I though: "If no one else does it, I will!" :) Thanks again and have a wonderful week Stefan!
Perfect lesson I really needed this to advance with my picking, I believe the picking has alot to do with really improving and advancing towards your overall playing.
Thank you so much Dominik! Would it be OK if I share your nice comment (and your TH-cam name "Dominik Markov" on our site etc? Just to let people know what our friends think of our lessons! :) kind regards/Emil
Thanks for that one. I almost feel like it was for me because I asked you just the other day on IG. Glad you mentioned the hurt part because that's my problem. Dry skin around the nail. Big ones fall off and smaller ones are like bamboo under the fingernails. Great video!
After weeks of struggling to get used to a thumbpick, I accidentally started washing dishes one night with the thumbpick still on. At that moment, I realized I was finally comfortable with it lol.
Thank you for this video, I never tried one, and at my 40s Im starting with Travis fingerstyle and I really think one of this will help with the thumb finger sound / action.
i have a large thumb and use the Dunlop L thumb pick. If the pick is a little small as mine was, I placed it in a cup with a small amount of boiling water for a few seconds and placed it back on my thumb as it was gettig cooler and was able to stretch it enough to fit nicely on my thumb. You can try this if its also a little too big. This works for me on the Dunlop, but I'm not sure if it works on other types, but it should being more or less the same type of plastic.
Thanks so much!! Would it be OK if I share your nice comment (and your TH-cam name "Herve Le Feuvre" on our site etc? Just to let people know what our friends think of our lessons! :) kind regards/Emil
Hi Emil, it's amazing to see this video. I'm searching also for a long time with different thumb pick. In the moment I play with the Thumb pick from "black mountain". You have tested some times? I use it for picking and also strumming. I'm very interested and waiting for your Video about the nails.
This is a fantastic video! I hate thumb picks because I can't seem to effectively control volume without palm muting, which creates a totally different sound. I am going to try a few of Emil's ideas and see how they work out. Thanks, John Gig Harbor, WA
Great info Emil. I'm left handed so it's hard to find left handed thumb picks haha. I would love you to do a video on your fingernails. Mine always BREAK...and it looks like you shape them and use acrylic? Could you do a video on that? I think its just as important as the pick. Thank you again & i love your guitar playing...do another RAG please haha...
Hi there! Yes I actually plan to make a video on the nails and how to file etc etc! I use acrylic on my nails, yes! Have a wonderful day! Yeah I'll do a rag soon! :)
could you please tell us what you have on your nails, cause I am facing this problem playing with my own nails which are soft or either short. thank you for the video
LOL...you can keep a thumb pick for a couple of months? I am just starting out in thumb picks. I've never really been very comfortable with them, but the folks that inspire me to play use thumb picks. LOL Thanks for the info.
How tight do you prefer a thumb pick to be? I seem to be in between sizes where a large is too loose and a medium cuts off blood and my thumb turns pale.
My thumb actually turned pale as well in the beginning but after working with the medium for awhile it got much better! It felt like it was a bit too tight, but after awhile I got used to it and the thumb adapted in some way!
I use a medium which digs into the top of my thumb out of the package. I microwave them for 10-12 seconds which makes is soft enough to bend the top straighter so it SITS on the top of my thumb, not dig into it. Then it’s perfect!
Hello. i realized i need a short thumb pick. there are none on the market. can i cut a normal one? will there be no problem with the ropes? Or are there short thumb picks on the market?
@@piax9567 Hi! I file the thumb picks to the preferred length. This is what we talk about in this video, so if you watch the whole thing you'll have the answers! Have fun!
For me the Bumblebee pick is the best. I don't remember the brand name. For my classical guitar I use the Shark-tooth thumbpick. I bought 3 expensive BlueChip picks. Two flat picks (TAD 40 and TAD 55) and a thumbpick. The flatpicks are worth the ridiculous price. The thumbpick is crap = no better than a Jim Dunlop thumbpick.
Great video! I use the same as you .. and I think I got from you .. I'm curious about your nails .. mine are natural, but it's not working anymore :/ Would be great to see a video about it, products, how you do it ..
U keep talking about them not fitting right... Have you really never fitted your thumb picks? Just place in hot (almost boiling but let cool some) water and then fit to ur finger and plunge into ice water.
The best advices ever. Thanks. Have a nice day.
You too! Thanks!
Really appreciate this in-depth explanation/ demonstration. I’ll definitely be checking them out. Thank you 😂
Video fantastico ! Grazie Emil e complimenti !

Thanks brother. Great job.

Hello! Can I use a thumb pick to play rock on the electric guitar?
Hi! Yes of course! You can play any style using a thumb pick!
I use JimDunlop ThumbPick!
👌🙌

D'Andrea Medium Thumb Pick Black
i'm gonna order another set right now
Which short thumb pick do you recommend?
I recommend finding one that fits your thumb, and then you just file the thumb pick tip to get the length that you desire!

you are having more thumb picks then i imagine having in my dreams

If your bumblebee looks like the one in the video here, the brand is Fred Kelly👍
Thanks for watching!
This is hilarious because I have the exact same Dunlop pick, it's way too long and I file the shit out of it.
