What if Notre Dame was undefeated and ranked #1…? Would they still not get a first week bye because they’re not in the college football version of a union..?
Correct - Notre Dame University has signed a contractual agreement that they may not be seeded higher than 5 in the playoff - the current independent contract runs through the 2028 season.
They are fine with it. Those conference championships are landmines and if you're in the sec or big ten you're playing an extra game against a most likely top 5 team. No thanks
Why don’t they give army some flowers as well. First time in their conference won the conference. And Daley showed how important he was all season when he didn’t play against Air Force. On top of that the only L is against a rank team
Well for the best record in CFB, why is OR given the toughest path to the final game? Ohio State University should have been Texas and OR Clemson, or SMU. OR should have been given the EASIEST path because the are clearly #1 and that should be rewarded.
I think it's funny when people assume that one path is more difficult than the other in this tournament. 1st round teams need to win 4 games in a row and bye teams need to win three games in a row to become the CFP Champ. Starting with 13 games already under the belt and more injuries on the way, it's going to be VERY HARD for any team to win 3 or 4 games in a row with this field and most games played on neutral fields. If you are pre-determining which path is "Harder" or "Easier", I guarantee you're in for a surprise at some point. This is going to be fun!
@ - Look at the team records / conference and who is pitted against whom and what team has lost to another team and there is little to assume on what a tougher party is to the final championship game. Having OR play Ohio State the second game should be more like playing Ohio State the last game. Why is SMU or Clemson even in the scheme this year. Against the best teams they are far from the challenge. I agree it is fun to watch C 🏈- the scheme this year is botched.
Alabama not being in the new playoff structure is the best thing for this new structure. But 4 Big 10 , 3 SEC, and 2 ACC? So the big conferences are still gonna benefit on who plays for a championship, got it
To Alabama fans and say how you should schedule as easy as possible, you do realize you made the CFP in 2023 was because your noncon loss was to Texas, right? If your loss came in SEC play and you just scheduled Mercer to replace Texas, you’re not getting in ahead of undefeated Florida State on a backup QB.
Wish I wasn't so out of the loop of NCAAF that I didn't even know about the 12 team playoff format change. I became a Boise St fan after seeing them in the Fiesta Bowl against OU when I was 15. From that moment on fell in love with the underdog team beating the power house in an amazing game. But after like 10 years of rooting for them I just gave up on college football. As felt it was pointless investing my emotions in Boise St as they would never whiff a national title game. Even when they changed it to the 4 team playoff. I still knew even if Boise St went unbeaten and every other team in the nation had 2 losses they would still never put them in. Even though I stopped watching always checked to see their record at the end of the year and if they had a bowl game with watching against a big school. So was shocked when I did just that yesterday and saw they were in the playoffs and have a first round bye. Guess I will have to watch them again from this point on as long as they keep the current format and give conference champs automatic spots. As Boise St is basically always in the Mountain West Conf championship game. Which means every year they will have a shot at making the playoffs.
clemson is the team that doesn't belong but they have that rule that the conference champion gets in....even if they are ranked 16th outside the top 12. that is what is wrong. conference champs shouldn't automatically get in unless they are ranked in the top 12 teams. also the top 4 teams should get the bye week.
Or in some teams cases, more then one game they shouldn't have. People will gripe but 12 team playoff at least makes it fairer. The 4 team was just more of the status quo. You might get a single different team in and that was it it felt like.
Not all us Ohio State fans are upset with Tennessee coming to the Shoe. We welcome the SEC up North. In fact, you beat us, we deserve a tough road. We put up or shut up. Better worry about Alabama. 😳

I get excited when commentators like Rich, Danny Kannel, Greg MCLroy and Rece continue to define Boise State as the "Easier Path". I can't wait for the excuses when that path becomes far tougher than the majority thinks. "PLEASE COUNT US OUT"!
Kind of dumb Indiana just beat a bad Purdue team 66 to 0 in freezing temperatures in Bloomington Indiana With those JMU players….. Indiana could’ve scored 100 and had more points than Purdue had yards in total

Well let's not pretend that this is the same Big 12. It's the leftovers of Big 12 combined with the leftovers of the PAC. The good PAC teams went to B1G and the good Big 12 teams went to SEC.
How come the PAC 2 conference championship game loser didn't make it? Washington State's strength of schedule is 111 which should easily qualify them for the CFP.
As expected take your shots Rich, but remember when College Football got rid of the BCS and went to the 4 team CFP? Who won the first ever CFP? Ohio State. Now we have the first 12 team CFP will history repeat itself? 😁

If you want an easier path then win??? Oregon got screwed in this schedule which is total BS. They were the best team all year long and get the hardest path. It's crap.
BSU can go to natty… If Ashton does not win Heisman, system is completely broken. He’s going to break Barry sanders record in his next game, could not be his last game. The guy already has the yards after contact single season record through eight games, if Hunter was so good, why don’t they give him the ball every time and why do they have three losses to unranked teams and not even in a conference championship game, let alone the playoffs
Am a Ducks/ Buckeye fan n all I know is Ohio State win or lose play with honor… I heard that Michigan got a bye for winning last year n they r playing against the University of Stalionitis in the cheaters bowl. This guy sees Scarlet n Gray when he looks in the mirror. The disdain is so laughable… can one be professional for once? Alabama had the 15th hardest schedule and SMU had the 60th hardest.. SMU didn’t beat a single team that finished ranked and Alabama beat 4 including #2 seed Georgia. Clemson lost to a team that isn’t even a top 5 SEC team but yet SMU gets in for playing in a very weak conference and not beating anyone. Also how is Clemson 12 and SMU 11 when Clemson beat them and Clemson losing to Georgia and SC is better losses than SMU.. sorry but SMU shouldn’t be in, strength of schedule should absolutely mean something, otherwise you’re going to see a bunch of mediocre games next year because teams aren’t going to risk playing a good team from another power 4 conference if the only thing that matters is the # of wins
The BEST teams should have been in. No way in hell anyone believes SMU is better than BAMA. Yes i get the losses but let's be real, head to head bama wins 100 / 100 times... i would guess😂 And yes , the brand DOES matter.

Rich is driving his own narrative because he’s lost his fastball when it comes to sports journalism. He’s just a talking head bro now. Womp womp.
big 10 and Rich chew a bit much on the Johnson grass. go to a computer generated 16 team playoff where top two teams get a bye, others beat the tar out of each other while the top two teams mentally have to ponder if they are worthy.

No thanks
@@scotte2177exactly
Why don’t they give army some flowers as well. First time in their conference won the conference. And Daley showed how important he was all season when he didn’t play against Air Force. On top of that the only L is against a rank team
Rich dunking on OSU will never get old.
actually, it does. ;). but after suffering for the better part of 2 decades, we're living w/it right now.
Dis Boise state at your peril
86th Strength of Schedule 😂
clemson is the team that doesn't belong but they have that rule that the conference champion gets in....even if they are ranked 16th outside the top 12. that is what is wrong. conference champs shouldn't automatically get in unless they are ranked in the top 12 teams. also the top 4 teams should get the bye week.
Completely agree.
The order should be Notre Dame, OSU, Tennessee, Penn State. What they did makes no sense. PSU above Tennessee? Don't think so.
Stop complaining about the hit on Stockton. They looked at it. It was still 'called' on the field.
Enjoy the Reliaquest Bowl, Rich. Roll Tide
Every single team that has a complaint could be settled by just winning one more game. Every team that was left out lost a game they shouldn't have.
Out of all the states that could’ve sent two teams to the playoffs Indiana was the first. You love to see it.
Texas
I wonder what the odds would have been preseason on that prop bet.
SMU is in Texas
Lol yeah you totally forgot that SMU is Dallas
I guarantee within the next 2 years, there will be no more undefeated teams in college football. And if one does happen It will be very, very rare. Mark my words
I get excited when commentators like Rich, Danny Kannel, Greg MCLroy and Rece continue to define Boise State as the "Easier Path". I can't wait for the excuses when that path becomes far tougher than the majority thinks. "PLEASE COUNT US OUT"!
You wanna bet? lol
IU is essentially JMU from last year… they’re not used to playing in the cold
Kind of dumb Indiana just beat a bad Purdue team 66 to 0 in freezing temperatures in Bloomington Indiana With those JMU players….. Indiana could’ve scored 100 and had more points than Purdue had yards in total
Dillion Gabriel is there cause he started at UCF then Oklahoma then 5 th yr sr at Oregon.
Alabama has 3 loses. Two of them were to 6 win teams. Are you kidding me?
4:47 childish. The point is that Oregon should have had the path that Penn state has.
I'm getting a sneaking suspicion that Rich doesn't like Ohio State.
"I can't tell you how I continue to DINE OUT on this..." That's rich, Rich. It IS a target-rich environment for observation of the galactically stoopid Committee. Full Disclosure...
A Bama Homer here, and I'm not mad. Rather, I am glad that you allude to the journalistic feasts that are being laid before you. Preach.
Georgia loves this bracket with Alabama missing.
So are the other 48 states lmao
Ohio State over Tennessee. SMU over Penn State. Texas over Clemson. Notre Dame over Indiana.
Georgia is the biggest benefactor.
Tennesse should be the host team... Ohio State got a gift.
SMU vs Boise State for the Championship
As expected take your shots Rich, but remember when College Football got rid of the BCS and went to the 4 team CFP? Who won the first ever CFP? Ohio State. Now we have the first 12 team CFP will history repeat itself? 😁
Living in Eastern Oregon and about 80 miles away from Boise. I have 2 teams in BSU and Oregon. My son was Oregon duck fan since he was little.l started watching Oregon now for almost 30 years. Become big fan put i still root for my Bronco's. I always root for the old pac 10 school's in the bowl games. Go BSU and Oregon 🐴🦆
○hio took 4th place in Big10, pound rocks.
If you want an easier path then win??? Oregon got screwed in this schedule which is total BS. They were the best team all year long and get the hardest path. It's crap.
can't have the hardest path with a bye
A disgrace not to let Army play at 11-1
And replace who?
lol. it's freaking army. you can't be serious
I wonder why Michigan was left out of the playoffs. Last years champion should have had a bye..
Absolutely ! Go Blue!!!
Not a bad idea actually
Yelling at and screaming at imaginary ‘ Ohio State fans’ on your podcast sounds delusional! Win or lose the Buckeyes r heading to the playoffs with their integrity intact. So what if they lost to the Wolverines? They are headed to the playoffs n we all know who isn’t. Can’t wait for either OSU or Tennessee’s match at the Rose Bowl. Do I smell bitterness n disdain?.
integrity that only a $20 million roster can buy. lol
Clemson should be a head of smu. head to head matter right. thats what they say
not knowing how the seeding works is your own fault at this point
But Clemson gets warmer Texas instead of going to potentially freezing Penn State.
The BEST teams should have been in. No way in hell anyone believes SMU is better than BAMA.
Yes i get the losses but let's be real, head to head bama wins 100 / 100 times... i would guess😂
And yes , the brand DOES matter.
@eorozco7 didn't say they were. Win your games and you're in. Smu deserved to be in, but my tigers got lucky with the win against smu. Other wise bama would have been in
I like how when Bama doesn't get in, suddenly the SEC Stans don't think resume matters.
Smu hasnt beaten a top 25 team all year. Clemson got beat by georgia and south carolina
hey rich, where is Michigan?? i see Ohio State there but where are the wolverines lol😅😅
Oregon fan. Your take on the seeding issue is brain dead. 3 of the top 4 Vegas odds teams are in one half of the bracket. Oregon, OSU, and Texas get to duke it out on one side while Georgia gets a much easier path on the other. You want the top seeds to be rewarded, not punished. Anyone can see that.
OSU beat PSU CLEM beat SMU yet both losers ranked higher than the winners
clemson has 3 losses. lucky to be in at all playing in the weak acc
Boise State gets blown out !!
These people always diss Penn State. Penn State had not a damn thing to do with the schedules. The hell with Eisen.
Lol I'm a Boise State fan .... exactly what is your complaint about being biased against lmfao 😅😆 btw. Good luck and no hard feelings. It's not the end of the world losing to Boise State. 😉
They absolutely have some control over scheduling. Who do you think schedules their OOC games?
Oregon got hosed. The best team, no losses, #1 seed and....they get the hardest road to the championship. Penn State has it much easier and they LOST.
Rich isn’t mature enough to talk about Ohio State objectively, even when Michigan isn’t involved. I haven’t seen any OSU fans complaining. It’s been either “Fire Ryan Day” or “We have to beat Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Georgia to win the Natty, time to do something epic”.
Why's OSU crying? Boise St is only 3 points better than Oregon 😅
So UGA has a buy to the natty and will face either Tenn or Texas again.
Oregon winning it all. Book it
Rich I'm a big 10 fan and all I hear is you bitchin' about Ohio state
8 pts is not within a td. But its 1pt away from a td plus a pat. Just helping where it's needed
one caveat Rich, Oregon stepped on everyone ELSE'S johnson, and they didn't exactly get "rewarded" with who they have to play.
Maybe Ohio State needs to prove their tough cant beat Michigan nor Oregon . Ohio State shouldn't be in playoff
Boise goes to pac12 and wins it in 2 years
As a Vols fan I would love to have seen Bama in the CFP instead of SMU.
indiana is the most disrespected team in the field
Only team from last year's 4 team CFP to make playoffs was Texas and they have lost twice to Georgia already . Lol and half the teams in this set up have played basically nobody outside their conference and were all crying cause cupcake Hoosiers are in and Bama is out. So Bama lost to Oklahoma and Vandy so Bama is a cupcake playing cupcake Michigan
It's a joke the committee left out the Colorado Buffalos. They are clearly one of the best 5 teams in the country right now.
not even in top 25, how delusional
Oregon got penalized for WINNING the Pac 10 championship game. That bracket is a farce.
Oregon is the one seed, so I'm not sure what their punishment is. And they won the Big Ten championship, not Pac 12.
U b right.
Typo on yhe Pac thing still getting used to it. Penn State has a m7ch easier path, Oregon will get Ohio St, and Texas while Penn State gets SMU and Boise. It is 7suak for the 1 seed to play the worse teams. They gotta fix that Oregon would have been way better off losing that game last weekend. BS.
Go Ducks!!!🦆🦆🦆
Hey Rich. you are right, enjoy the year-long gloating trip. That is what pathetic losers Ryan Day and Chip Kelly did to us
Delusional.. what is so pathetic about the Buckeyes coaches? Pathetic? Really
Very incoherent bracket
Georgia's starting QB is injured and they barely won their conference game by 2 points.......thus FSU rules apply, they should be out!!
They announced brackets before GA QB injury status. Also, GA's backup QB is a baller.
Well, I am sure the ratings in Indianapolis will be good for ND-IU. The rest of the country....YAWN.
Right. Which is why ND is the sole team in college football with a broadcast contract with a major network to televise all their home games. You're a genius.
Penn State couldn't beat Vanderbilt.
Indiana will be the surprise team making it to the finals. ASU will upset Texas. Oregon wins it all.
This is the reason I almost exclusively watch NFL/Pro Ball. All this debate and talky-talk. Y'all sound like women comparing boyfriends in a very tacky way.
CFP has FOUR (4) rounds of games? I'm sure the institutions are proud of their academic standards.
