The committee did their job. The commissioners and CFP need to add some guard rails/rules to reward the best teams and ensure that CCGs are still meaningful. 1. Reseed after rd 1 or each rd. 2. Losers of CCG will not be punished if they are already in the top 12 going into CC games. 3. Top 4 teams get byes, not conference champs. 4. Conference champs get autobids
Penn State loses gets the easiest path to the Championship. Oregon is the best team 13-0 in college football and gets the hardest path potentially having to play Ohio State/Tennessee, Texas, and Georgia/Penn State after running the B1G gauntlet now running a proverbial playoff gauntlet. If Oregon pulls this off they have to go down as one of the greatest teams in history going 16-0. With no complaint from Dan Lanning. Only team I could put over them is Joe Burrow and LSU if they pull this off
By losing their championship game, I thought SMU was going to be 13th and Alabama 12th because of strength of schedule, but instead, SMU was placed 11th ahead of Clemson who beat them. This makes no sense at all.
24 team playoff once the PAC 12 conference comes back with no byes. First 2 rounds would be host at home stadiums. All teams would play the first round, games start on a Tuesday go on Wednesday skip Thursday continue on Friday and Saturday
In this entire process I have yet to here this question asked Manuel..when you are vetting 2 Teams do you ask if these Teams were to play, let's take a vote who do you think would win. It's hard for me to believe had this question been asked Alabama vs SMU we would have these same results. You can take it even further, Ole Miss vs Indiana. Under the current guidelines nothing can be done with Bosie State or Arizona St. But 12 best, not close!
@@oldfishermanandhisdog exactly, so stating that because you believe Alabama to be better means that they don't have to earn their way into the playoffs.
@TheTurtlebot the entire vetting process is ine big hypothetical! Different Teams from different Confrences with no common opponents, and then if there are common opponents, Clemson, for example they Committee threw it out the window.
@ to be fair, Texas beat teams that were ranked and are no longer ranked just like Alabama. Only difference is Texas didn’t lose any cupcake games… like Alabama did
Lessons to be learned from this first year, the biggest of which is strength of schedule needs to be significantly more weighted in rankings through the entire season. Then conference championship games simply CANNOT be the only games played the last week. 32 games including those championships with guaranteed bids for Mountain West, AAC, ACC, Big 12, Big 10, and SEC winners. Every top 25 team plays. Then final rankings (again heavier SoS including that last week) with top 4 resting and 8 playing seeded strictly on ending ranking. Even if that means 7 from SEC get in so be it and they are seeded 1-7 so be it.
@@ld4974 Because they're not as good? Doesn't change the fact that a weaker team has an easier road than the best team. It would be like putting Detroit, Philly, and the Vikings in the same bracket and the Seahawks, Bucs, and Packers in the other.
Oregon has the best record…not necessarily by any means are they the best team…. But if they do win it all…..give them their flowers…but they will get exposed and their business will be put out in the streets and it doesn’t look good for them
The bowl game seeding doesn’t make any sense. They should just do it like NFL where 1 seed plays lowest winning seed and so on. For Oregon to have to play UT or Ohio State to make it to the Final is insane.
I just want to make one comment. Alabama lost by 21 to Oklahoma. Ryan Williams scored a touchdown with 14:35 left to go in the 4th quarter to cut the game to a 14 point game. A phantom penalty for a receiver being covered up got the call reversed and it was a change of possession. Every media member said the next day, “well even if Alabama scored that TD, there is zero chance they could’ve won that game”. Well….. Wasn’t SMU down by (17!!) going into the 4th quarter and tied the game up before Clemson won it on a last second kick? How could they have possibly come back from down more than 14 in less than 15 minutes. Maybe it is possible. And I’m sure the committee would’ve looked at the game in a different light if Alabama could’ve gotten the momentum there and made it closer. I’m off my soap box. See ya in 2025.
If SOS mattered at all, SMU, never would’ve been above Alabama when they lost the only good game they played. Indiana never would’ve been above Ole Miss, after losing the only top 25 game they played. When the SEC starts building their schedules in the same way that every other conference did this year, and the top teams just rotate which 1 or 2 of the top 6 teams will have to play more than 1 of the rest of the top 6 every year. And just play a round robin beat down on the same bottom teams in the conference. I don’t wanna hear anyone crying when the SEC accounts for every single at large spot in the field.
I don't see anything saying that the SEC has a god-given right to have all the playoff spots. Who you lose to matters and Ole Miss lost to 7-5 Florida and 4-8 Kentucky. Alabama lost to 6-6 Vanderbilt and 6-6 Oklahoma. SMU lost to BYU, who finished tied for the top of the Big 12 after getting off to a 9-0 start, and Clemson. So here's a novel concept for Alabama and Ole Miss to try: win more games.
Most political final rankings I have ever seen. They wanted the Ohio State vs. Tennessee first round matchup so bad for ratings even though Ohio State clearly deserved to be ranked ahead of Penn State. And SMU being ranked ahead of a team that just beat them on a neutral site in a conference championship game is a flat-out joke.
Tired of hearing all the complaining about Penn State's resume, when Texas has an even thinner resume. Where's the hate for Texas? Penn State at least has a top 25 win. Texas does not.
When it comes to conferences…. The Big 12 vs. the Mountain West is not even close! Let me put the difference between the MWC and the Big 12 in perspective. Boise State beat Wyoming by 4 points, ASU beat Wyoming by more than 40 points.
Each game is a stand alone game. Some games clearly go in a certain direction based on factors of that day. Somedays the vest defenses give up 50 points. Some days the best offenses cant find a rhythm. Do you want to compare how Boise State would fair against Texas State, the FCS team ASU beat by 3 Georgia beat Oklahoma. Oklahoma beat Alabama. Georgia should clearly beat Alabama right? No? Oh so each game is its own stand alone entity. BSU went 12-1 and had 2 CFP top 25 wins and only loss was to #1 orregon on the road by a walk off field goal. ASU beat 2 top 25 CFP teams. And lost to two unranked teams. If you think that doesnt matter, then you would Vote Bama ahead of you… You all made the playoffs, you got hot at the right time, and you have a bye. Who cares if youre 2 seed, 3 seed, 14th seed with a bye.
CFP doesn’t rank conferences, they rank teams. Boise lost one game by 3 points to #1 Oregon. ASU lost two games by a total of 18 to unranked Cincinnati and unranked Texas Tech. And Wyoming was a home game for ASU - they weren’t playing at 8000 feet elevation. Spend a day in Laramie and you know.
The ACC championship outcome didn't matter. The SEC championship outcome didn't matter. The B10 championship outcome didn't matter. And the B12 Championship got a bye. GREAT SYSTEM
This is a complete fraud. How do you pick SMU over Alabama?? I guess strength of schedule is meaningless. Oh SMU beat powerhouses like TCU, Louisville and Stanford, woo-ho. I am not going to watch any of the playoffs as this whole thing is politics and a joke. CFB is over, on to the NFL.
Thank you for finally realizing that its all about politics, and not about on field play. Welcome to the BSU side of the argument. Weve been here for 20 years…
Maybe if Alabama played a 9th SEC conference game they would have had 4 losses…. Now that everyone else is allowed to pay their players, SEC will be in decline. In a 16 team conference SEC and Sankey will die on that cross …..
How can you put Alabama in with 3 losses, no SEC championship appearance, and 2 of those losses were to 7-5 Vanderbilt and 6-6 Oklahoma. And the loss to OK was by 21 points, in a game they were favored by 20. I’ll answer for you: you can’t. This isn’t about SOS. This is about wins and losses. Alabama has 3 losses, 2 to unranked horrible teams. SMU has 2 losses: both to CFP top 25 teams, and played in a championship game in which they lost on a 56 yard FG at the horn. SMU deserved to get in. Did not deserve to be punished for playing in a conference championship game.
Why is it never brought up that SEC teams only play 8 conference games whereas the Big 10 and what used to be the Pac 12 play/ played 9 conference games? The SEC is adamant about not changing that so quit crying about strength of schedule…..this is not a level playing field…..boggles my mind it’s never mentioned…..
